has it always been there? or has it moved? and does that mean if someone 'likes' that thread it will be posted to their fb page?

@MardyStropAboutLikeButton

From 12.51 StupidLikeButton: "So you're not getting rid of the actul button then HelenMN" HelenMN "I'm afraid it's not my decision to make so I can't answer that one."

Well, with all due respect, can we talk to the person who does make the decisions. It's somewhat disingenuous and rather unfair to Helen for MNHQ to put her into the firing line when she is only able to say, "sorry, rules is rules".

Xmas Smile
IHateTheLikeButton · 16/12/2011 16:19

I agree Mardy. When will that be MNHQ?

Get0rf · 16/12/2011 16:19

I don't think that you are all deliberately trying to pull the wool over our eyes, Helen.

But - have a look at last week's thread. In it Justine said that the like button would be trialled, feedback generated and would be an optional function. Presumably the FB like decision had been made then. Would it not have been appropriate for Justine to have said 'by the way, we are going to implement a FB like function next week, we will see how that is recieved'

estya · 16/12/2011 16:21

I know that what we say on here is in public, but its not me saying it in public.
Thats why I don't care who sees is. We don't need restrictions saying only people who know us can see our MN posts. Its irrelevant.

Loads of people use MN to say things that they couldn't or wouldn't say on FB, whatever privacy filters they have - thats the whole point of MN.

When you say MN is more public than FB your aren't comparing like with like.

Pinot · 16/12/2011 16:22

Ohhhhhh this is my first MN Christmas and you're all going to flounce and leave me on my tod with a bunch o'thickies. No fair!

MardyStropAboutLikeButton · 16/12/2011 16:23

Is that a passive-aggressive smiley or a friendly smiley, Helen?

It kind of feels like you are blocking us, but I imagine you're just following orders.

HarktheHelenMumsnetAngelsSing · 16/12/2011 16:23

@Get0rf

I love the word disingenuous.

It is a cracking word to use whilst having a mini-row with a teenager, and they are fudging the issue. It makes steam come out my daughter's ears Grin

You calling me a teenager, GetOrf?

usualsuspect · 16/12/2011 16:24

So posters who haven't got a problem with the like thing are thickies?

HarktheHelenMumsnetAngelsSing · 16/12/2011 16:24

It's a friendly-it's-Friday-and-just-me-and-the-poor-overworked-techs-in-the-office one.

Theonewiththehair · 16/12/2011 16:24

Mine too Pinot but I'd like to think I'm not that thick. :0 ! Only time will tell.

FellatioNelson · 16/12/2011 16:25

Is this really your first MN Christmas Pinot? Shock Blimey, you have seeped into my psyche further than I had realised. Like a little burrowing grub, you are. Grin

PortBlackSandyClaws · 16/12/2011 16:26

I've been away a while and came back to gawp at the Secret Santa threads ... and find it's all kicking off at Christmas again Xmas Grin - is this going to be some sort of Christmas tradition MNHQ? Did you introduce it now for that very reason?

AChristmouseTail · 16/12/2011 16:26

Exactly estya - I thought that was what the 'like' button was going to be for, how naive of me.

FellatioNelson · 16/12/2011 16:27

Hhahaha Getorf my 16 year old does that - he gets all irate with me and scowl and rolls his eyes and says 'Stop using crappy word I don't even know the meaning of!'

MardyStropAboutLikeButton · 16/12/2011 16:27

So basically, MNHQ implemented this at closing time on a Thursday, and then left Helen to field questions on Friday when they've probably all buggered off down the pub and hope that we'll forget over the weekend. Xmas Angry

PortBlackSandyClaws · 16/12/2011 16:27

It'll be tickers introduced on Christmas Eve - you mark my words Xmas Wink

MardyStropAboutLikeButton · 16/12/2011 16:28

To be frank, PortBlack, I'd rather have tickers. At least we could use those ironically.

QuickLookBusy · 16/12/2011 16:29

The Like button is still active on topics such as Teenagers and Behaviour.

It makes me soAngry

As I said earlier, people on these topics are posting about really sensitive issues such as anxiety and anorexia in their DC. Some troll could come along and put the thread on FB??

Why MNHQ would you want this to happen??

MardyStropAboutLikeButton · 16/12/2011 16:30

So, Helen, surely MNHQ anticipated that there would be reaction to the Facebook linking?

So why didn't they have someone available who can justify the decision?

HarktheHelenMumsnetAngelsSing · 16/12/2011 16:30

I blinkingly well hope not

Blast! You've rumbled us. Xmas Wink

Get0rf · 16/12/2011 16:31

"Hhahaha Getorf my 16 year old does that - he gets all irate with me and scowl and rolls his eyes and says 'Stop using crappy word I don't even know the meaning of!'"

Hahaha! My dd actually said to me last week 'mum stop using crap and pointless words like pedantic and ghastly' - it made me roar (which made her even more cross).

I said the cat looked discombobulated by the christmas tree yesterday, you should have seen her face. I LOVE winding up teenagers.

ruddynorah · 16/12/2011 16:32

People who aren't bothered about the like button are probably the ones who don't have fat clumsy fingers or teen dcs who leave their fb logged on their mum's computer or get so drunk at home on the computer they accidently press the button...or other such plausible issues with it.

ruddynorah · 16/12/2011 16:33

I have yet to accidently fall over and land with my finger pressed on a like button on any of the tons of sites that already have them.

MardyStropAboutLikeButton · 16/12/2011 16:33

I am getting more and more Angry with the flippant responses tbh. MNHQ, please stop trying to divert the argument with asides about secret santas, tickers and the use of the word disingenuous, and answer the questions and concerns on this thread.
