has it always been there? or has it moved? and does that mean if someone 'likes' that thread it will be posted to their fb page?

OP posts:

I dislike teh like button.

Can see name change confusion coming this way soon.

TwistAndShout · 15/12/2011 19:41

Come on Mumsnet. This is clearly such a bad idea.

Get rid of it!

Floggingmolly · 15/12/2011 19:44

Why does anyone have to "like" the thread? What happened to posting if you have anything to say, and quietly going about your business if you haven't?
Is there some advertising revenue angle to it, Helen?
We don't bloody like it.

voddiekeepsmesane · 15/12/2011 19:44

Another one to think it is a bad idea.

ShowOfHands · 15/12/2011 19:44

I choose to post certain things on here. No I can't stop these things being seized and repeated anywhere on the web but I can ask mnhq not to encourage other forum member to link to my threads on a different public forum. Why oh why is it even remotely necessary. Why would there be a need to have a shortcut to linking threads to fb? I come to MN to MN, not to become facebook fodder.

SayYuleNowSayWhipTheReindeer · 15/12/2011 19:45

OMG I just saw it! What the Actual Fuck? Was just about to post a thread and then saw this one! Arrgh! What are they doing? This isn't nethuns!!! Xmas Shock Xmas Angry

Nipple · 15/12/2011 19:46

In fact after 3 posts I am bored and real life needs me.

If the 'Like' button stays I will dereg completely.

ShowOfHands · 15/12/2011 19:46

And yes you could already do it btw. But we've all hidden that bloody drop down, hangy whatsit thingy as we didn't bastard well want it in the first place.

I'm swearing. I never swear. This is what you've turned me into with your insipid little like button floating across MN.

Selks · 15/12/2011 19:47

It's horrid. Why does everything have to be linked to Facebook? I like my mumsnet and my facebook separate.

Wormshuffler · 15/12/2011 19:49

If we change our email adresses to one that isnt the same as our facebook, would that stop them appearing? I like the idea of a like post button but to have it linked to my real life fills me with fear.

Pagwatch · 15/12/2011 19:50

It is a gargantuan shit of an idea. Fucking awful. Beyond awful. Really, really awful.

Think I will be off.

Nipple · 15/12/2011 19:51

nope worm - because I can 'Like' the thread and whatever you piosted on it will then be on my wall and visible to all my friends. who could then put 2 and 2 together and work out who you are.

winterfox · 15/12/2011 19:52

we had twitter and facebook buttons on here before didn't we? did i imagine that?

no-one gave much of a stuff then :S

MarshaBrady · 15/12/2011 19:53

The good thing about mumsnet is that it is not facebook.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 15/12/2011 19:53

I hate it too. And I will leave it at that, seeing as what I'm typing out right now is appearing on fb. How many degrees of separation did they discover existed between fb users? Can't remember, but anyway...... I BLOODY.HATE.IT.

No fucking NEED, mnhq. It's doing more harm than good to your website. In fact maybe this is fb's evil intention, to conquering the world by alienating users of other forums and getting their websites closed down due to people deregistering???

IAmFuckingPissedOff · 15/12/2011 19:55

And just before I go, I'd like to remind Mumsnet of all the allegations not so long ago of "bullying" - do you remember them, where regular posters posted links to Facebook calling their friends to come and take their sides in arguments?

Do you remember how terrible that was considered to be - posting links to Facebook so your friends could all "pile in".

I remember quite a discussion about it at the time, and being told that it wasn't really the done thing, and now we are being positively encouraged to do it Confused.

MNHQ Why have you put the like button on the conceptions boards? Myself and many others post on the angle mothers and ttc thread. This thread is full of bereft mothers posting some personal and sensitive information. MN has been a saviour to me this year following the death of my baby daughter, I for one will not be posting as long as the like button survives out of fear of being identified in RL. Thanks for taking this lifeline away from me. Sad and Angry.

janedoe25 · 15/12/2011 19:56

Obviously Angel Mothers!

CrispLeCrisp · 15/12/2011 19:57

Winter - there was a big hoo ha over the twitter/fb buttons.

Such a bloody crap idea.

If you missed it Semper has set up a survey We hate the like button here.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 15/12/2011 19:58

If MN keeps this, the only way round this will be for all of us on here to have a dummy email account and use it to register a dummy account on Facebook and on here. What the bloody hell use is that to generate revenue? If I did that then my dummy fb account would have zero friends, noone would see it anyway.

Tis a bad, bad idea.

still wouldn't help Curly.

Imagine I start a thread about something. You post on that thread. Someone else 'Like's it. Thread is then posted on their FB page. A friend of that person reads the thread via FB - realises it is you. You are outed.

SayYuleNowSayWhipTheReindeer · 15/12/2011 20:02

MNHQ - seriously. NO ONE wants this. NO ONE AT ALL.

We are your customers.

Without us, there is no forum.

If you keep the Like button we will all leave.

winterfox · 15/12/2011 20:03

maybe don't post personal stuff on here then? this site is afterall public to everyone
