are we allowed to carry on discussing this?

OP posts:
OrmIrian · 09/11/2011 12:47

rhubarb - no your' advice' won't do. I suspect the point of the Dog House is to offer help and support to people who actually like dogs not those who dislike them.

ConstanceNoring · 09/11/2011 12:48

Today I am mostly agreeing with ChippingIn...

And I've had a look at the Other Forum and there's not much to it, just hello here we are, nice to see you Val. 'snice.

LoopyLoopsRootyFroots · 09/11/2011 12:49

Rhubarb, RSPCA put down healthy animals. Therefore, rehoming with them is often not the best idea. That is, unless you want to run the risk that your pet be killed.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 09/11/2011 12:50

no rhubarb your advice isnt 'official' nor is it accurate or helpful.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 09/11/2011 12:50

Rhubarb - this is a quote from Justine

JustineMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 07-Nov-11 23:09:47
LindsayWagner

I don't fwiw think it's always possible to post with a worst-case-scenario view of another MN-ers circs; I think MN's true spirit bounces erratically between that extreme, and the other, 'you're talking shite and I'm telling you so' one.
I actually agree with that LW. I think you can and should be able to say 'you're talking shite and I'm telling you so' but you shouldn't say "'you're talking shite, you evil/nasty/uncaring/thoughtless/stupid (delete as appropriate) person you, and I'm telling you so'

should be able to say 'you're talking shite and I'm telling you so'

So, it doesn't appear that Mumsnet agrees with you re their rules.

TheRhubarb · 09/11/2011 12:51

Why are people taking my posts so darn seriously? I'm not used to that. Have you all lost the plot?

ConstanceNoring · 09/11/2011 12:52
LoopyLoopsRootyFroots · 09/11/2011 12:52

Everyone is still cross and stirred up. Nothing personal Rhubarb. :)

Sevenfold · 09/11/2011 12:53

Rhubarb0 cos you are naughty......

omg sorry because your behaviour is naughty..phew

TheRhubarb · 09/11/2011 12:53

Chipping - you are talking shite, hence the words coming out of your mouth are shite. However you as a person may not be shite, but if you actually say that you are an "evil/nasty/uncaring/thoughtless/stupid" person then you are making a personal attack. So actually it does back up what I just said.

GrimmaTheNome · 09/11/2011 12:53

(loopy - suspect Rhub may have known that, that's the point)

But Galaxy - yes I know there are other rescuers but I (and I'd guess others) don't know who they are and if they are willing and able to fill that particular gap. Well, I suppose the obvious answer is to title such threads 'Any rescuers - help please'. Better really than putting it all on an individual.
OK, answered my own question.

TheRhubarb · 09/11/2011 12:54

Oops, that reads as I think Chipping is talking shite! I meant that as an example btw Chipping Blush

TheRhubarb · 09/11/2011 12:55

Grimma, actually no I didn't since the thread is talking about parma violets and other things. But fwiw, I still think that was excellent advice.

Chipping
Here is a thing though. I am a fairly prolific poster and in all my years of MNetting I have had just ONE post deleted.

So, being a regular poster is no excuse. If DBF has been reported 20 times then she has said something at least 20 times that someone was offended/upset by.

I don't think that I mince my words, but I don't call names and I am not unkind to people who are looking for advice.

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 09/11/2011 12:58

I think the llamas ate the plot.

Greedy bastards, llamas are.

TheRhubarb · 09/11/2011 12:58
TheRhubarb · 09/11/2011 12:59

See? Talk of llamas and parma violets yet my most excellent advice is spurned on the grounds of stirring! I'll have you know that I have followed that advice for many years and it's served me well - I don't have a dog!

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 09/11/2011 13:04

Mme - I had a post deleted the other day for simply asking a poster why they felt the need to live up to their name. She was being properly vile on the thread. I was certainly 'less out of order' than many of the posts on here calling DBF all kinds of things - yet they still stand? It's inconsistent.

DBF is passionate about what she posts about - can you really say the same? (genuine q). Of course she gets frustrated and some of that frustration spills out into her posts on occasion. The same cannot be said of the people coming on here 'cold' calling her obnoxious, vile etc yet they are left.

Many many people said far worse on that thread - they haven't been banned. It is not reasonable to ban someone for saying something that you wouldn't ban any other poster for saying.

Either what she said warranted a ban, no matter who said it, or it didn't - and it didn't

Do other posters have rescue contacts? Yes, but none so much as DBF, I dare say. I can help if you're in Teesside. I believe Scuttle has a few contacts in Greyhound rescues, there is a homechecker who will have rescue contacts, whose name escapes me right now and Rhinestone among others.

The RSPCA no longer take in dogs from the general public nor are they no-kill. They prefer to build shiny white buildings with all their millions the public donate to them and leave all the real work to the poorer, independant rescues.

MmeLindor. · 09/11/2011 13:11

Chipping
Yes, actually. I am quite passionate about the things that I believe in. And I have been deleted for telling someone to fuck off.

I don't think that being passionate is enough of a reason for being abusive towards other posters.

Of course we all have a "boiling point" but if Val's is so low that she has been warned several times and had a temporary ban she needs to think about that. Maybe impose a cup of tea rule, that she has to go and put the kettle on, make tea and then post when the first anger has dissipated.

As to the inconsistency - MNHQ is not one great person. A Wizard of MN type behind a screen. There are different people manning the great red button and they react differently to the reports coming in.

So sometimes a post will be deleted when a similar post will be left to stand.

Elibean · 09/11/2011 13:25

I like the idea of a cup of tea rule. Not just for DBF, either.

I shall miss her.

Yes, this thread has got (incredibly) boring at times, though I don't think the bits that bore me are necessarily the bits that bore others - but its also been important because when you exclude a member of a community, people have feelings about it, and they need to be aired and heard.

There are some very rude posts on it too, but obviously not of the ban-able sort, ho hum.

"Do these people not have jobs? Children? Homes? Real life friends?"

Fuck! The children!

So glad you punctuated that last sentence correctly, Soupy....
