sometimes i don't wish to comment but want to acknowledge that i like a mumsnetter's post or response. i keep going to click the like button, as on facebook but inevitably find that it is not there!!

"buttons work in some places, but not convinced they would here"

Are you at least willing to let others have the chance of a trial ?

A trial which you can ignore easily, should you wish !

Gonna happen anyway so why do you need my approval?

NG...I would watch a trial with morbid fascination.

Cap'n Nan, well I wasn't aware that there had been any other threads about this until someone said so the other day, so I'm not copying you, honest Grin

Glad we agree though.

Where is that button when you need it :). Agree, they have a trial, we ignore it, it happens BECAUSE we ignored it....dont get how it would work

I'm very against like buttons. Please don't MNHQ.

The trouble with a trial is what would be the measure of its success or failure

That would depend on the (measurable) objective behind the trial.

IF a like button is aimed at increasing the number of people who are active members, but the button shows itself to be ineffective in "activizing" passive lurkers and/or reduces the output of the minority who produce the content, then it is a big fat failure and not suited to the dynamic of this site.

Vice versa, a sucess.

As to what sort of timeline would be needed, wild guess.. six months?

Why do you need a trial for like buttons? Just go on the DM website/facebook/youtube to see how it works.

I think I'd stop posting altogether if there were like/dislike buttons tbh - I couldn't take the rejection/lack of likes.

Can't say I'm too chuffed with the irrefutable proof that nobody is paying the slitest attention to anything I write either.

But I doubt that will stop from pontificating at length i nto a viod.

It's bigger than me. I just can't stop. Grin

I can see me turning it off, but occasionally turning it on hopefully, only to be crushed by a respounding lack of endorsement, turning it off again and stopping posting in a mammoth sulk.

For about two minutes.

Before launching once more into the fray.

My family have been trying to get me to shut up since the day I learned to talk. I'm guessing it'll take more than a like button to succeed where they failed. Blush

Maybe we could just have an "I agree with Pagwatch" button instead. [hwink]

See Exit? I LIKE that. [hsmile]

I could have just clicked on a little icon instead of typing.

What harm would that do to anyone, I don't know.

It would indeed be much better if you addressed me on my actual name.
But no, Brian has now stuck to me like a piece of toilet paper on the sole of a new shoe [hsad]

Pag, could we be clearer on this though? As much as I'd love to think that you agree with me in general, it would be useful to know if:

  • you agree with me liking the "agree with Pag" button

-you agree with the name Brian sticking to me like toilet paper
  • you agree with me appearing to be cross at the misuse of my name
  • you agree with me loving the misuse of my name

Like or dislike buttons!!

Christ I couldn't cope when they turned scrolling upside down, and added pages to posts. I still view my posts the 'old fashioned' way!
