can we have a 'LIKE' button on every posters post??

nightshade · 10/10/2011 12:31

sometimes i don't wish to comment but want to acknowledge that i like a mumsnetter's post or response. i keep going to click the like button, as on facebook but inevitably find that it is not there!!

OP posts:

Paaaaaaag plase don't leave me like that.... I didn't mean to upset you :( ....I'm sorry the puppy peed on your shoes....

Pagwatch · 11/10/2011 14:25
Grin

Had to take the puppy out before he found something of mine to shite on.

So it is about 300 squillion against, 2 or 3 in favour so we are going to press ahead.

Is that the rub of it? It's all a bit Tony Blair

GetOrf I love some of the changes on MN - I have it on new, have colour coded OPs and my own posts, have pages and think the bookmark is a genius invention.

But like? No.

This. To add to someone upthread (can't be arsed to re-read, have forgotten who. Soz) I mainly lurk and occasionally post, which probably makes me an active lurker. I don't want a like button, it encourages people to be lazy. See, instead of C&Ping and typing this (which is something I do on occasion) I would just have clicked "like". And then not bother to post an opinion.

GetOrfMo1Land · 11/10/2011 14:35

^^^ points at headless.

SEE - SEE - this is what would happen

SuePurblybilt · 11/10/2011 14:42

If we do have a like button which we obviously will despite all this, can we have a mechanism that churlishly flings it back in the liker's face or tosses it in a puddle and grinds it under one's heel? For the PA and Wanker 'likes'?

LetUsPrey · 11/10/2011 14:52

Can we have a "wave" button? There could even be a royal wave, you know, for the MN Royalty.

GetOrfMo1Land · 11/10/2011 14:53

Haha yes 'fuck OFF and stick your like where the sun don't shine'

SuePurblybilt · 11/10/2011 15:03

A like from you is an insult Sir. Name your seconds.

Umm I could just change you to no if you like? (I think). Although hoicking bosoms is sort of the same things Grin

It is only I that can see the results. Mwaaaaaahaaaah! I could prob screen shot them but I have no BigTech or other fancypants resources.

I'm just a woman. a laptop, a survey monkey account and something else I should be doing but I'm avoiding.

fastweb · 11/10/2011 15:37

SEE - SEE - this is what would happen

One active lurker stating a hypothetical isn't necessarily an accurate prediction when actually applied across a site as a whole

This I think is a very techy gobblydgook lite intro to the lifecycle of an online community, why increasing participation can be a good thing in terms of making traffic count and the ways that have proven most effective in achieving increased participation.

Low-engagement interactions ? a rating system for YouTube videos, a Like button on Facebook, the ability to Retweet on Twitter ? are important in that they provide a simple but interactive way for peripheral members to become invested in the community. By keeping the barrier to participation low, the conversion of low-level members to active ones is more easily achieved.

Grin well done Katie - I've done it too - let us know if you get more that 10 answers. Wink

Blackduck · 11/10/2011 15:49

Interesting fastweb, but mumsnet does not equate to youtube, twitter or facebook. I think you have to look at what the applications purpose is. Frankly either carrying on lurking (fine by me I do it a lot) or post, but I don't want to see threads with 14 replies but 7822 (okay I exaggerate a bit) 'likes'.....

fastweb · 11/10/2011 15:51

Yes let's survey

If you want more accurate results post a sticky to the link across all the boards, fluffy and otherwise.

I doubt you are going to get an representativd cross section of all types of users (and therefore a better picture of the range of opinions) on "site stuff" which tends to attract the small perecentage of members who actually post rather than the far larger percentage who tend tomlurk.

KatieMorticiaton · 11/10/2011 15:51

There are 6 reponses! And only one is mine! Grin

GetOrfMo1Land · 11/10/2011 15:52

Katie you are great - 'you will not be entered into a prize draw'

GetOrfMo1Land · 11/10/2011 15:52

I would start another thread Katie.

Let's take the power out of MNHQ's hand!

KatieMorticiaton · 11/10/2011 15:53

Blush Grin

TashHag · 11/10/2011 15:56

I answered it! I said no I would have hoicked my bosoms, but I was afraid of getting a black eye....

KatieMorticiaton · 11/10/2011 15:57

Right there are too many people posting ideas on the survey. It's going to be a right bugger to deal with later.

I propose closing that survey, moving to my paid for account (where I am supposed to be doing my uni dissertation and this is a diversion from the tedium) where I can add the extra options and then download the results afterwards. And do pie charts. What do you think?

I can start a new thread but it will be on site stuff only. I won't be spamming the boards.

BertieBotts · 11/10/2011 15:59

What was the MN poll for that I answered a few weeks back? I thought that was a "like" button one.
