What's the etiquette on other posters having very similar posting names to yours?

Should I mind? Should I chill?

There are a few other Lemons on here, and hey, I'm cool y'know. Not like this is my whole identity important or anything. Plenty of room in the fruit bowl.

The thing is I've noticed another LemonX around (can't actually remember what the X is, but similar length to Difficult, easily mistaken) and I think they're new and .... Is there a protocol?

PM them nicely.

I've been PM'd 3 times complaining that my namechanges are too similar to longterm posters. I tell them to feck off in a good natured way, abuse them roundly and namechange again.

Themumsnot · 08/03/2011 10:35

Have you been here long yourself?

nancydrewfoundaclue · 08/03/2011 10:36

PM them and ask if they wouldn't mind namechanging. If they then change with good grace a public thank you never goes amiss.

ShowOfHands · 08/03/2011 10:36

I've never noticed any lemons.

I think if another ShowOfHinds for example popped up I'd wait and see if they were witty/intelligent and then just claim their posts as my own.

IngridBergmann · 08/03/2011 10:41

Showy your plan is good.

I had a fall out with a FlightofFancy once, well, I really managed to offend her by saying she was very similar to my name and people were getting confused. Her style was really similar as well.

She was fed up even though I didn't ask her to change. I didn't feel I had any right to. I just wanted to point it out to avoid confusion.

But she was fed up and said she would change her name, and she did, and then changed it back. She rarely posts but I still feel awful about it, and the worst thing was I didn't even ask her to change.

I had seen it all go tits up too many times so I just mentioned it. Sad

Been here since 2006 but LemonDifficult since whenever In The Loop came out.

SOH - that's the thing. Wouldn't want the poor poster to get saddled with my views on the benefits of parking your 4x4 in the last disabled space, or why breastmilk is the new Sunny Delight.

And that will make no sense at all unless I explain that I used to be flight.

cheesesarnie · 08/03/2011 10:43

depends if theyre funnier than you?if they are pretend its you writting all the funny posts Grin.
id say if theyve been on here longer than you then you should change name but if not just say-getting bit confusing do you mind changing names?theyre within theyre rights to tell you to fugger off but if it bothers you that much, try it.

LemonDifficult · 08/03/2011 10:43

IB were you flightattendant?

OP posts:
IngridBergmann · 08/03/2011 10:43

I'd have been quite happy to claim her posts as my own. Most of them were better than mine.

Oh I hate pissing people off.

cheesesarnie · 08/03/2011 10:44

ingridGrin

IngridBergmann · 08/03/2011 10:44

yy

and I really like your name btw Smile

lilsmate · 08/03/2011 10:45

There are a few other Lemons on here

Ain't that the truth !

IngridBergmann · 08/03/2011 10:46

There's a few cheeses as well...generally the cheeses are a warm and friendly lot.

If I see another lemon I will know it's not you. Don't worry.

Anyone remember the Kerrymum/Kerrymaid thing? Thatw as traumatic.

LemonDifficult · 08/03/2011 10:51

IB/FA aha, now I know. When did you change? And I vaguely remember the Kerry thing - what happened there?

The reason that I'm bringing this up now is in response to the Trillian thing on Saturday. Someone came on as TrillianAlba or something, stirring the pot.

OP posts:
cheesesarnie · 08/03/2011 10:51

i remember kerrymum thang.got a little ott.

i am actually the best est, warmest, friendliest cheese though I'll have you know.Wink

Ingrid i forgot you were fa!I've had a few name changes over the years but i seem glued to this name for some unknown reason.quite comfy.

cheesesarnie · 08/03/2011 10:52

trillian always gets it.theres ben lots of trillians.but they give up.

IngridBergmann · 08/03/2011 10:57

Oh I saw the Trillian person and got confused briefly.

I've had so many names I didn't get on with, they wrote all kinds of shite, I don't know where it came from.

and then this one sort of stuck. It's the name of my favourite chicken. Well the only chicken who comes up to me and has a chat. Smile

LemonDifficult · 08/03/2011 10:58

The nice warm cheeses are reminding me of the Brie on top of my fridge.

OP posts:
cornsilkee · 08/03/2011 11:01

I remember Kerrygate - was most amusing. What happened to the other Kerry then? I've seen some other corn names on here recently

TanteRose · 08/03/2011 11:08

when I first joined, my name was sakurarose, but after a while, I realised the only other poster from Japan was also called sakura, so I changed coz she was here first...Smile

Themumsnot · 08/03/2011 11:14

I tried to be TheMumsnet but they wouldn't let me.

I think you probably are the only BarbaraMillicentRoberts that I've seen around. But I'll keep an eye out.
