I think if Tiktok wants to do that we can respect her decision but I'm still not feeling up in arms about the milupa link -sorry.

Twiglett · 23/08/2005 18:34

sorry I find threatening a website because you don't agree with an advertiser a little weak

Blu · 23/08/2005 18:36

The membership of people like Mears and TikTok is so much an indicator of the real value of this site.

I can completely understand why TikTok feels like this.

Nemo1977 · 23/08/2005 18:36

sorry agree with Katie and twig fair enough if she wishes to leave because of it but at same time it is such advertisers who keep MN going.

NomDePlume · 23/08/2005 18:36

I agree with katierocket.

lunavix · 23/08/2005 18:37

I know there was dispute about this (I know, I was one disputing) but it's a bit silly leaving a website because of one advert.

nutcracker · 23/08/2005 18:39

Sorry but I don't have a prob with the ad either.

Blackduck · 23/08/2005 18:39

If you really want MN to be able to chose their advertisers then encourage all those people who don't pay subs to pay up! We get this for 'free' unlike the website promoted in the Indie today where it costs £1 a month .....
BTW I personally HATE Tesco but I wouldn't leave a site because of it...

lunavix · 23/08/2005 18:40

Actually I want to add - I do think it's silly to leave a forum you are essentially a part of because of one advert you don't agree with, but reading tiktoks thread I can respect it.

BunnyBoo · 23/08/2005 18:41

Sorry but i agree with everyone else, thats just silly !

tassis · 23/08/2005 18:43

i don't think it's silly to leave a webpage because it advertises something that you're very strongly against.

I think it's sad she's leaving and I know she'll be hugely missd.

aloha · 23/08/2005 18:43

I don't think it's silly and I think that is disrespectful of the way that Tiktok has given up so much of her time to act as an unpaid counsellor to so many people. I am torn as I do think that unless MN can make some money there will be no MN at all, but I am uneasy about the link and can see why she feels like this. I do hope however that she will reconsider because otherwise - as people say about terrorism - it lets your enemies win.

SoupDragon · 23/08/2005 18:45

It's the fact that MN are accepting money from a formula company which goes against TikTok's belief in the WHO code governing the marketing of "breastmilk substitutes". It's not silly at all.

Blu · 23/08/2005 18:45

Advertising per se I don't have a problem with - it's the sneaky underhand way of flouting the law - on a espected parenting site, by a major multi-national, for the benefit of their shareholders, that i do have an in principle disagreement with.

And if I gave up my time as a volunter bf counsellor, and gave advice based on my experience free to the members of the site, I would feel pi**ed off, I think. And leave. I would feel as if i was swimming uphil through treacle and that it was the site that had tilted to the uphill position.

misdee · 23/08/2005 18:46

i dont blame tiktok for leaving, she has given up so much time as a breastfeeding advisor to many on this site.

Blackduck · 23/08/2005 18:48

See where you guys are coming from and perahps MN HQ should rethink on this one, but back to my point, encourage all those who don't pay subs to do so, it would put MN in a stronger position...

MistressMary · 23/08/2005 18:48

If she really feels strongly enough then all due respect.

However I dislike or don't approve of certain things, but accept that is the way of the world today.

aloha · 23/08/2005 18:49

I agree more people should pay subs, but that's not Tiktok's responsibility. She pays hers - and offers a hugely valuable free service.
I hope she stays. Please do. For the babies if nobody else.

SoupDragon · 23/08/2005 18:51

Subscriptions are not compulsory to ensure that the site is available to all.

Blu · 23/08/2005 18:51

Yes, will pay subs....this is a good point.

Aloha, I didn't mean to imply it was TikToks responsibility, I was just trying to make the point that MN needs money to keep going and advertising is one revenue stream, subs are another.....as I said I was surprised to find the one the Indie mentioned actually charged..
