The first car I remember my dad having was a Micra

Mum had a black fiat panda that was basically a cardboard box on wheels. The least aerodynamic car ever. It eventually rusted right through the floor. My dad had company cars that got switched out every few years but there seemed to be a trend for Volvo and later Passat estates in garish shades of green. I now have a 15 year old Honda Jazz which is both rusting and green, a neat closure for me 😂

Parents never drove, but an uncle had a 1.8 Marian which was white with black vinyl seats. If it was hot, the seats stuck to your legs. Argh!

Saz1995 · 05/02/2018 14:58

A Ford Focus , his gone up in the world with a new BMW now x

2pups · 05/02/2018 15:01

A maroon Austin Maxi - must of loved them as they had a few also had a mustard one.

I remember when my mum got a car with seat belts in the rear - the stuff dreams were made of! It was a red Talbot Horizon.

Roomba · 05/02/2018 15:02

None until I was 3, then a gold Skoda of some kind. This was many years before Skoda made reliable decent cars and back then they were the butt of many jokes. I can fondly remember sitting in the front of the RAC truck on a couple of occasions when I was very small Grin

Then we got a Datsun Cherry, which was much more reliable but had plastic faux leather seats which were sticky on hot days. Then a brand new Renault something which was my dad's absolute pride and joy.

17caterpillars1mouse · 05/02/2018 15:07

Nissan bluebird

Arkengarthdale · 05/02/2018 15:12

Zephyr 6. A blue one. Then a brown Cortina, a white Marina, a copper coloured Consul GT followed by a series of Granadas. A child of the 70s, me. And I could tell you all the registration numbers too but that would be outing Smile

MrsSpenserGregson · 05/02/2018 15:15

2pups my parents had a mustard Austin Maxi! Followed by a white Renault 12 estate (now that was a really, really shit car).

At the same time (1970s obvs, my grandparents had an Austin Allegro....!! Much maligned and for good reason Grin

Seeline · 05/02/2018 15:16

We didn't have a car until I was 17. My DM, DDad and I all learnt to drive at the same time.
2Pups we had a maroon Maxi - I learnt to drive on it. Really loved it. Did you have a clothes peg for the choke?

Lweji · 05/02/2018 15:24

Fiat 124
Then Fiat 127 (I think, or in reverse)
Then Nissan Sunny, which was also the first car I drove after getting my driving license. It was dark blue and one time they heard a kid saying it looked like KITT (2000).

CruelAndUnusualParenting · 20/02/2018 22:04

2 Morris Oxford estates, followed by 2 Dagenham Dustbins (Ford Cortina estates)

MrsMarigold · 20/02/2018 22:09

Various Mercs - popular in Africa as they're very robust, plus a few Renaults. We were in a lift share when I was at nursery school in 1980 and one mum crammed six children into her Fiat 100.

loverofcake983 · 20/02/2018 22:10

A BROWN robin reliant... bloody doors opened every time he went around a corner 🙄, then a ford escort estate... then a brown Datsun, then a green Skoda, then a bloody bright yellow van 🤦🏼‍♀️

Barabajagal · 20/02/2018 22:11

The earliest car I remember was a Morris Traveller. Mum taught at the school we went to and was much in demand for lifts. You could fit a lot of small children in the boot of a Morris Traveller.

Arapaima · 20/02/2018 22:12

My parents had a navy blue Ford Escort. I now drive a Ford too Smile

Yvest · 20/02/2018 22:12

About 900 Volvo estates. All company cars so replaced every couple of years

Gwenhwyfar · 20/02/2018 22:13

A lada. Had to endure so many jokes. We did a poll in Maths class one day to show us how to make graphs. There was a choice of countries that your family car might come from, but the teacher had to add Russia for me.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 20/02/2018 22:14

The most obnoxious looking gold Shogun
And matching red ford Sierras Grin

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 20/02/2018 22:15

A white Vauxhall Victor.

DressageNut · 20/02/2018 22:17

I can remember, in chronological order: blue Hillman Imp, green Ford Escort, white Triumph Toledo, brown Datsun Sunny, red Datsun Cherry, green Volvo, light blue Rover.

Cookie4u · 20/02/2018 22:17

My mum had a white Renault Savannah .
Best car ever , it had 7 seats but looked like a normal estate car .
Lots of memories .

My dad had a blue van .

Itmakesthereaderreadon · 20/02/2018 22:18

A Chevette. We were allowed to sit in the boot. And the football. But never in the front; that was dangerous.😂

ormulu · 20/02/2018 22:20

Well where to start....1971- 1993
Hillman imp
Mini Cooper
Ford Cortina
Austin 1800s several
AustinMaxi
Austin allegro
Morris marina
VW Golf
Renault 18
Ford Sierra

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 20/02/2018 22:26

The first one I remember was a blue Volvo 340 - and the only way I know that is because I can remember the reg number and googled it Blush

Faze84 · 20/02/2018 22:28

I remember the reg numbers of all of them about 10.a skill acquired from young.
