Anyone on here who is 5ft?! What car do you drive

I am looking for a car but I am such a short arse, whenever I have tried sitting in larger than average cars such as mercedes, renaults, peugeot 207 etc I cannot see over the wheel or reach the pedals despite putting seat forward and adjusting the wheel! I am just wondering what cars do you have and what cars are reliable? I am thinking of a Toyota, Volkswagen or a Seat.

I'm 5ft 2in and I drive a skoda citigo and at work I drive a Volvo xc90, both cars have adjustable seat heights and steering wheels.

Huffletuff · 10/09/2017 12:39

I'm not a nervous driver in the slightest, and have driven many cars, however when my husband and I first met many moons ago, he drove a BMW 3 series and I couldn't reach the pedals safely despite the seat being as far forward as it would go. It felt dangerous to drive and he had to change vehicle as I wouldn't have been able to depress the brake fully in an emergency.

Wanting a comfortable car to drive with good visibility has nothing to do with being a nervous driver.

I'm 5ft and drive a VW Polo. I have found cars where my view is very pool because of my height, nothing due to driving ability

QuestionableMouse · 10/09/2017 12:49

I'm about that height and have driven everything from a tiny C1 to a Jumbo Transit!

Currently driving a Zafira.

I am 5'2" and drive a GMC Sierra 2500, driving isn't a problem I can see everything and reach the pedals, but it is high when I open the door the bottom of the door is level with the top of my knee!

PollytheDoily · 10/09/2017 12:57

5'1 and drive a Land Rover Discovery and a Range Rover P38.

You sit high in both so never had a problem.

LilaBard · 10/09/2017 13:04

I'm 5ft on the button. Have driven Vauxhall Corsa, Ford Fiesta, Skoda Fabia, Hyundai i30 and Kia Ceed with no problems. Hate pumping the seat high up as it makes me feel like I'm in a booster seat but these have all been fine.

The only car I hated driving was a 2011 Hyundai i20 which was designed for someone with longer legs and when I moved the seat close enough I smacked my shin every time I tried to change gear! Googled it afterwards and it seemed to be a common problem for short people. So, Google is your friend!

MadisonMontgomery · 10/09/2017 13:19

I'm 5ft exactly and drive a Fiat 500 - I have driven in bigger cars but the Fiat just seems designed for short people - not just adjusting the seat height and steering wheel height but the pedals seem very close, as does the gearstick etc. It's a very comfortable drive if you're short.

gunsandbanjos · 10/09/2017 13:29

I'm 5ft 1 and drive a Peugeot 207, I had to cancel a driving lesson once as my instructors regular car was in the garage and he brought a Ford Fiesta and I couldn't get the clutch down.

thethoughtfox · 10/09/2017 13:31

5f 2in and drive a Mini. They are so beautifully designed but I still need to wear a boot with a two inch heel so I can rest my accelerator foot on the floor.

CarolinePenvenen · 10/09/2017 14:02

5’ 2” and Ford Focus estate.

Buckinghambae · 10/09/2017 18:05

A big chunky Mazda 6 that makes me feel grown up and not anywhere near as small as other cars. It's nowhere near pulled right the way up (though preset electric seats are handy so DH borrowing it isn't an issue when I get back in it). Being replaced with a Merc phev- I only just fit it but worth it so I'm not handing over crazy amounts in company car tax

MuchBenham · 10/09/2017 18:08

Is an automatic an option? I'm 5'1" and that made a big difference.

NoBetterName · 10/09/2017 18:08

Wanting a comfortable car to drive with good visibility has nothing to do with being a nervous driver.

No need to get defensive - it was just a question. I just wondered because I am also 5'2" and I've never experienced a problem with not being able to depress the brake fully. I wonder if it's not to do with height, but more to do with leg length?

Helpmeltb · 10/09/2017 20:08

NoBetterName - I have 3 issues due to height. One is being able to reach pedals (only ever been a problem in an old honda civic), being sat close and steering wheel being low meaning my knees hit dashboard when changing gear and not having a good view due to the design of the front.

Less of an issue now because I don't need to share car with stbxh as some of the issues were down to needing seat/steering in such different positions it would have been too much hassle.

dalek · 10/09/2017 20:11

I am 5ft - currently drive a VW Golf but in the past have had a Fiat Panda, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C class - estate. You do get used to whatever you drive but I do love driving the Golf

ladystarkers · 10/09/2017 20:13

BMW series 1. Best car ever. I have had lots of big cars before... way prefer this. Never going large again.🤣

Shortandsweet20 · 10/09/2017 20:37

I'm 5'1, I drive an Audi a1! My last car was a peugeot 208! Both perfectly fine

Imissmyboy · 10/09/2017 20:48

I'm 5 ft and have driven a variety of cars due to DH having a company car and courtesy cars when his is in the garage. Only one I really struggled with is the Mercedes Estate. Currently drive a Fiat Panda and an Audi TT. Love the driving position of the Panda.

Huffletuff · 10/09/2017 20:54

@nobettername - Sorry, I thought you were being arsey Smile Apologies for being overly defensive.

Buggerlugs123 · 10/09/2017 20:57

I'm 4'11" and drive a Kia Sportage.

Speckledtulip · 10/09/2017 21:00

I'm 5'1" and drive a Mazda CX-5. I used to drive a Galaxy. Never had a problem as long as the seat is fully adjustable.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 10/09/2017 21:04

I am 4ft 11 and drive a Honda FRV and a Hyundai i10. Both have adjustable height drivers seats. As did the Honda Civic and Ford Focus I had previously. The biggest one (FRV) is the best of these for visibility and because I'm a bit higher up can reach toll and ticket machines more easily too.

Teebird669 · 10/09/2017 21:06

5ft 1 and drive hyundai 4x4..love it

jammiecat · 10/09/2017 21:22

I'm 5 foot and drive a Mazda 2 and a Citroen Grande Picasso. I much prefer the Citroen despite it being much bigger as the higher driving position makes it easier to see what other drivers are doing. I expected to hate it. And I have no problem reaching the pedals and the steering wheel has two positions so no problem there either.
