Anyone on here who is 5ft?! What car do you drive

I am looking for a car but I am such a short arse, whenever I have tried sitting in larger than average cars such as mercedes, renaults, peugeot 207 etc I cannot see over the wheel or reach the pedals despite putting seat forward and adjusting the wheel! I am just wondering what cars do you have and what cars are reliable? I am thinking of a Toyota, Volkswagen or a Seat.

5 foot and I drive a Mini, had a Toyota IQ before this.

wonkylegs · 10/09/2017 09:25

I'm 4"11 I currently have a Toyota Yaris (old style) which is a fab car for short & long legs (DH is 5'11 with very long legs) but as mines now 13yrs old it's inching towards replacement (too tiny for the kids) and I'm just waiting for my VW golf to arrive.
Our other car is a Land Rover Discovery Sport.
All of these are great for both DH & I
Test driving the Vauxhall Astra, Nissan xtrail, & Ford Focus they also worked for my short legs.
We found when test driving that seating positions were better in more sit up (4x4's, crossovers etc) rather than laid back cars (little Renaults were awful) & in larger premium cars there was often more adjustment.

weebarra · 10/09/2017 09:29

We have a Golf and a Ford S-max and I drive both happily - I'm 4 10.
As long as you can adjust the seating position it should be fine.

LtGreggs · 10/09/2017 09:33

5'1" - recently got a Volvo XC60 which is v comfortable. Before that had a Skoda Octavia which was fine for short drives but really uncomfortable for longer (say 2hr +) drives as seat too deep for my legs.

PairOfMarigolds · 10/09/2017 09:35

I'm 5 ft 2 and a third, I drive a Citroen DS3 and a Ford Kuga

mynotfinkso · 10/09/2017 09:40

I'm 5 ft and three quarters of an inch and currently driving a C4 grand Picasso. We had a ford galaxy before that and while I could reach the pedals with a lot of adjustments, it wasn't as comfortable as the Citroen.

I'm 5' 1" and drive a Mini Countryman. I love it. It has loads of room and a sitting position that is relatively high from the ground, giving a good view, plus lots of seat adjustment options so it's no problem to reach pedals. The boot is also set high so easily packed and easy to access. It's not a small car though. More a Maxi than a Mini really Grin.

Hi, This is very close to my heart!! I'm 4 foot 11 and it is my first consideration when buying a car. Ignore idiotic salemen saying "helpful" things such as "you can move the seat forwards you know" whilst staring at you, mystified.... I have been driving for over 25 years and it is vital to get a good car you are completely happy with and that will be safer too. Daily I see short people struggling to peep over the dashboard...WRONG, not to mention unsafe!

So, take time to carefully adjust ALL of the things you can when trying a car out. The seat forward and back, the seat tilt, the seat raise and lower function if it has one (although going up can sometimes take your feet further away from the pedals!) and the steering wheel mechanism raise and lower. Your sternum needs to be AT LEAST 15cm from the centre of the steering wheel, for safety in the event of airbag going off. Finally, in some cars, the top of the dashboard is just TOO HIGH no matter what you do!

I generally avoid Renaults, Vauxhalls and VWs. I currently drive a new Peugeot 108 and a Citroen Picasso. Toyotas seem to be pretty good. Fiats variable-I went to try a Panda and a 500 and they were no good sadly for me! Take your time to try carefully. Without the salesman staring at you, if you can! Small adjustments can make a big difference. Let us know what you choose!

Citroen DS3

icclemunchy · 10/09/2017 10:02

4ft 10 with short arse legs. Currently a ford mondeo and previously a focus st. Best one I ever had was a freelander

zgaze · 10/09/2017 10:02

I'm five foot and half and have very short legs too...we've got a Skoda yeti (lovely car) and a Toyota Yaris, both really comfortable for me to drive. Last car was a focus which was fine too.

RaininSummer · 10/09/2017 10:05

Honda jazz here.

HammerToFall · 10/09/2017 10:25

I'm five foot and drive a Mitsubishi ASX

NoBetterName · 10/09/2017 10:33

I'm 5'2" and have not yet found a car I wouldn't be happy to drive. Are you usually a nervous driver?

wonkylegs · 10/09/2017 11:54

Most Toyotas have a good range of seat adjustment and it's very easy to do. The range of adjustment on the Seat & VW is similar but the mechanism is more fiddly.

RandomMess · 10/09/2017 11:59

I drive a Citroen C4 Picasso, I do have a foam back cushion to make the seat shallower, and flatter though.

SoPassRemarkable · 10/09/2017 11:59

Ford Focus. Seat adjustable, don't think steering wheel is but never needed to investigate that far.

Kardashianlove · 10/09/2017 12:00

I'm 5foot and have had lots of different cars, mondeo, focus, cmax, couple of renaults, Picasso.
Have also driven different hire cars and vans, I've never found a car I couldn't drive or reach the pedals.

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 10/09/2017 12:02

Yeah I'm 5foot and haven't found a car I can't drive yet either, I've even driven a tanker and a double decker. Although obviously, some cars are easier to adjust than others.

SallyGardens · 10/09/2017 12:04

4'11.5" I drive a Ford Galaxy.

Ash81 · 10/09/2017 12:07

I'm 5.2 and have citroen c3

AreWeThereYet000 · 10/09/2017 12:10

5ft2 and I drive an A class merc, I can see fine, I pull the seat and far forward as it goes and lower the steering wheel, the only time I struggled was when pregnant when I had to higher the wheel and move the seat back.

My mum is just under 5ft and she loves her Citroen DS4

karalime · 10/09/2017 12:12

5'3" and am fine with my 207, it's adjusting the steering wheel that makes it comfortable.

LawrenceSMarlow · 10/09/2017 12:20

5'1". Skoda Citigo, although my mum's Roomster is also fine so I assume all Skodas are appropriately adjustable. Didn't get on well with my driving instructor's Focus, or my driving instructor for that matter.

IDefinitelyWould · 10/09/2017 12:35

I'm 5ft and have an automatic meriva, I love it. I do a lot of driving. The seat adjusts really well and goes plenty high enough/close enough to the wheel for me to feel comfortable and in control.
