Anyone on here who is 5ft?! What car do you drive

I am looking for a car but I am such a short arse, whenever I have tried sitting in larger than average cars such as mercedes, renaults, peugeot 207 etc I cannot see over the wheel or reach the pedals despite putting seat forward and adjusting the wheel! I am just wondering what cars do you have and what cars are reliable? I am thinking of a Toyota, Volkswagen or a Seat.

I'm 5ft 2in and drive a Fiat 500. It's so cute Grin

MrEBear · 10/09/2017 08:56

My mum drives a fiesta, one short pal loves Minis and another drives a massive VW people carrier thing that I can't remember the name off.

Seats and steering wheel adjust for a reason. I think the one who drives the VW moves the seat to get in and out.

KBTR · 10/09/2017 09:00

Toyota rav 4.

I've found that I'm better in cars that are higher up, as I can see more of the road etc

Helpmeltb · 10/09/2017 09:02

I also prefer a car where I'm sat high up. Currently have a Ford fusion. Looking at maybe getting a dacia sandero stepway for my next car. If I could afford it, I'd get a Suzuki vitara.

Huffletuff · 10/09/2017 09:03

I'm 5ft and drive a BMW X5. I find high cars are much better for me as I can see everything. I'm not sure what to get next, as circumstances have changed for me and I can no longer afford to run it. I was thinking something like a Ford Kuga or those Dacia things.

Allwashedup · 10/09/2017 09:04

Don't buy an Audi. I'm 5.8 and have trouble sitting high enough to see over the wheel in my TT.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 10/09/2017 09:05

4'11" I have a Toyota Verso and I love it

Daffydil · 10/09/2017 09:05

I'm 5'2" and drive a Seat Altea.

My mum is 5' and drives a Renaul clio

TheSleeperandTheSpindle · 10/09/2017 09:05

I'm 5ft and drive a Fiesta. Seat and steering wheel are both adjustable. I've had a Mazda T2 and a Yaris in the past.

MrsDustyBusty · 10/09/2017 09:06

I have a Fiat panda. Not glam but I can see over the top and reach everything easily.

AGrinWithoutACat · 10/09/2017 09:06

Very similar to PP - Mum is 4 ft 11 and a half and drives anything she wants, she likes cars that allow her to sit higher up but also liked the Citroen C1 I had for a while. She also liked driving the transit van she needed to for a while for work again as she was high up

Marmite27 · 10/09/2017 09:07

I'm 5'2" and drive a focus. A family member who is less than 5' by quarter of an inch drives the same.

MoreProseccoNow · 10/09/2017 09:08

Volvo estate; I just adjust the seat height Grin

ReinettePompadour · 10/09/2017 09:10

I drive a Mazda 6 (2.5 ltr so a big car) and I'm 5ft and half an inch. Its not your height that's important its your leg length. I wear 29inch leg length but I do know someone taller than me (5ft 4) but with a 26 inch leg length and cannot drive my car.

The seat moves both up and forward. The steering column is high set so gives you enough room for your legs if you are closer to the wheel. It can be moved in/out/up and down.

Ive also had Micras and a Mini.

You really need to get in a car and have a go to see if you could drive it. The biggest problem I have is reverse parking because my view is limited. Having sat in a Range Rover Evoque recently the rear view is practically non existent no matter how tall you are so I figured that a limited rear view cant be so bad if manufacturers are deliberately making it difficult to see out of the rear window. brightsunnyday · 10/09/2017 09:13

I'm 5'2. I drive a corsa and sit on a cushion. Blush

TroysMammy · 10/09/2017 09:14

I'm quarter of an inch under and I drive a Chevrolet Matiz. I've just bought a visor extender because of my short arsedness and low sun.

Hulababy · 10/09/2017 09:14

I'm around 5 foot.
I currently drive an Abarth 595 (faster version of a fiat 500) which is bi issue.
I also drive dh's land rover discovery and in the past have driven a range of cars such as various Golfs, Mini, Beetle, Toyota Aygo, Kuga, Ford Ka, etc

The key with bigger cars for me is that the seat and steering column are fully adjustable. I did have an issue with a BMW on a test drive once but it just wasn't very adjustable, though that was years ago now.

angelopal · 10/09/2017 09:15

Fiat Panda.

SavoyCabbage · 10/09/2017 09:15

My Mam is tiny and drives a massive Lexus bust she sits on a cushion.

Hulababy · 10/09/2017 09:16

Oh and an Audi A4 cabriolet, an old Corsa and some others.

I wouldn't say my upper body was even vaguely Tall either. I just spend a while making the adjustments.

I like dh's car as the settings are all programmed in so I don't have to fiddle each time.

patientzero · 10/09/2017 09:17

My mum is 4'11" and drives a Peugeot 208 no problem. Admittedly the seat is as far forward and as high as it will adjust to but it works for her!

SparkyBlue · 10/09/2017 09:18

4'11 and I have a Toyota Verso. I do think I'd like something higher the next time but I have never had any issues driving because of my height. My main bugbear is things like toll booths and parking ticket machines as I can never reach them properly

sillyswimmer · 10/09/2017 09:20

I'm 5ft 2in and drive a Toyota Yaris. It's the perfect driving position for me. I've happily driven a golf, BMW 3 series, Volvo XC60 and a Renault Clio.

I recently drove a brand new Ford Focus. While I could see out of it, I couldn't comfortably use the handbrake. The side of the seat was in the way

mateysmum · 10/09/2017 09:22

I find it's not so much the total size of the car, more the seating position and adjustment. I have driven huge 4x4s in the past that were easier to see and reach the peddles than a little hatch back. I find DH's zafira tourer a higher and more comfortable position to drive than my little hatch back.

I'm thinking of changing my car soon and it's not just the seat position, it's that I can't reach to close the boot on many cars. Again, not related to size of car. A fiat 500 is a stretch but a large mpv not!
