That sounds great! What btec have they chosen? I’m sorry you’re feeling upset but hopefully that’ll dissipate as start of term approaches. Have you got any in for a remark?

Dd and I are both disappointed - she did well but underachieved for her in four of her subjects and one has impacted alevel options. But we’ve sent two in for remarks (one 2 marks off and one 1 mark off) and made a seemingly instant change subject swap whilst at school yesterday.

What a flawed system. Can his current school provide evidence of class work grades etc?

DD is the 2nd she went to register after results and was told unless your changing subjects just reply to the email we will send out. Just remembered need to get her to tell other 6th form she aint going.

Hope everyone got a got nights sleep cant wait to get home tonight after going through 2 exams results I week apart I feel knscketed.

I just went through DS’s marks and compared these to the grade boundaries - he was generally pretty lucky actually, but he’s only a couple of marks off the higher grade in two sciences. What do people think about reviews for science subjects? Are they less likely to lead to additional marks?

DD’s school had a list of all kids near the knuckle and grabbed them for a chat yesterday. School’s thought is that <4 marks for essay subjects should be checked by teachers first, stem subjects <2 marks. Only then if they find marks they’ll send for remark.

Dd is one mark off a 9 for literature and 2 marks off a 6 in physics so we’ll remain hopeful but pragmatic.

Edited to add that the school should have flagged this data already and make direct contact with you rather than other way round.

I got DS to check his emails last night - there wasn’t anything from school, but he didn’t pick up his results in person unfortunately.

i know some people wanted a new separate thread based on whether dc were doing alevels or a different route so is there a way to do a poll before this thread runs out imminently?!

My dd has her enrolement next week. She wants to discuss with them about changing one of her choices. I feel like that is a big decision to make on her own. Do you think it would be ok to go too?

We had a call from school yesterday afternoon from DD's dance teacher to say she was 1 mark off the next grade.

She had planned to speak to her at school yesterday morning but we were in a rush to get to college so she didn't see her leave otherwise she would have spoken to her about it then and if she wanted it remarked.

It was me that suggested that but it was mainly because most people on MN assume kids are doing A levels and respond accordingly I would like to keep up with all your lovely YP and how they are getting on so I think maybe the best route is for one thread but for people to just be a bit mindful that not every child is doing A levels. Happy to go with whatever people want though.

My post results day task is to try to get autistic DS to agree that some new clothes might be a good idea for college and maybe a hair cut but that might be pushing it.

DD had her consultation appt yesterday after she picked up her results. Her brother had gone into the college with her to show her where to ho as he used to go there. When the teacher came to get her he asked her DB if he wanted to join them, so appeared happy to have another adult there.

There were also lots of other students with parents about so imagine it would be ok as long as your DD if happy for you to join?

Out DD has changed her choices after her chat yesterday. The teacher was very good at explaining why her new ones were more suitable for what she wants to at uni

(Which are also what we have been telling her for the past year but as her parents we know nothing however as soon as college advised her she changed her mind)

Not my business as mine are now out of college, but the BTEC thread in Further Education BTEC/T level/other vocational 25/26 - part 2 | Mumsnet has been helpful this year for parents of those not doing A levels. It helps vocational course discussions not get lost under the weight of those doing A levels. It also includes those doing Level 1 or 2.

Mine changed one of hers at school yesterday. She may want to change another.

We didn't hear anything from the school but I didn't go in. They had grade boundaries posted up on the wall so the students could see how close they were. But they sent something out before results saying you can only request scripts between 9-23 September. Will check with DD whether she heard anything else. I didn't see her after she I drove her to get results as then she disappeared off with friends all day and got home after midnight!

Would a general Y12 thread cover A levels and other educational paths?

I think a general thread for the moment for exam results, feelings, choices. Maybe a split later?

I’ve set up another thread just so we don’t finish this one. As Teen mentioned there is a vocational thread in Further Education and we can always set up a new Y12 one too but it would be nice to keep this one going over the coming weeks as everyone’s such a great support to each other.

Mine changed one of her A levels from biology to environmental science - this despite doing really well in biology (she got a 9, 168/180) because she hated revising for it so much 🥴

She’s sticking with geography (also a very good 9), but still wavering between computer science & broader IT for the third. She was disappointed in her 7 for com sci, but having looked at the marks she scored well, grade boundaries were high (I think that’s a fairly typical with comsci). The only requirement for comsci A level was a 6 for maths, she got a 7, just below the 8 boundary.

I haven’t arranged transport to college yet - I was too scared to jinx it!

@Pandaonahill I think Comp science grades were tough. A friend's kid didn't pass despite being consistently predicted a 6.

@Pandaonahill if it helps at all, I’d say that’s really sensible of her re the biology. My eldest DS took biology A level having enjoyed the GCSE course (but covid year so only sat mocks not public exams and got CAGs) and absolutely hated it - found it an absolute slog and the mark scheme very prescriptive. So environmental science may well be a better choice.

DS has had an email about considering script review and potential review of marking for English language as he was 2 marks off a 9. He wants to go for it - totally acknowledges that this will be just for personal satisfaction and changes nothing but I think he just wants to see. His A level choices haven’t changed but interestingly his highest GCSE marks were for his languages.

So sorry to hear about the challenges some have faced @Neko2026 that just sounds totally unacceptable from the school. Well done to your DS for achieving what he did despite the lack of support.

I think someone had set up a ‘going on to y12’ thread and I have posted on it but would love to continue the journey with our thread posters. I don’t see why we can’t continue to support each other regardless of what DC are doing whether it’s A levels, btecs, T levels, apprenticeships or whatever.

DS is 1 mark off grade 9 for math. He wanted his paper to be reviewed. I didn’t think was necessary as the marks can go up or down during the review. But he will keeps wondering what if so I have emailed his school’s exam office last night, he replied super quick and thinks 1 mark off definitely worth to get it reviewed. He suggested do 1 paper at one time go for the lowest scored one which makes very much sense to me as if it goes up by 1 mark he will get a 9 but goes down then probably no point to review the rest. So we have sent the review request form and paid the fee last night, now just wait and see.

Dd school said on results day they are sending her Maths off for review as 2 marks from next grade.

Chat gpt made the remark decision for us!
