For those asking about remarks DS high deprived area state school actually emailed asking him permission for remark never paid anything as was just 1 or 2 marks off. He got an email after saying was regarded to a 5 not sure if it was driven by the school. Also had same for Alevels fron college.

You loose nothing sending email to ask the teacher.

@BeasKnee A few years ago my dd was one mark off a 9 in geog. She didn’t think anything of it but the school rang and wanted a remark as I think they just wanted it for their own stats. School offered to pay whatever way it went, so we signed the forms and forgot about it. Anyway she did end up getting the extra mark and got her 9. Personally I wouldn’t bother paying for it if it doesn’t make a difference to their future as of course if the mark stays the same they take your money and if it goes up they refund it.

Remember that it is a review of how the mark scheme was applied. No one is looking for an extra mark. In fact it may be that the review suggests an incorrect level was used for one AO and the mark may go down (unlikely that the grade will go down in your DD's case tho).

Agree tho by all means recall the paper and get a teacher to have a look at it.

I'm worried about the mark going down in Biology AQA Triple Higher if we ask for a review, but daughter is 1 mark off a 7 and (by my calculation) 19 marks off a 5 if I read the grade boundaries correctly.

Get a teacher to have a look. But what difference would a 7 vs a 6 actually make? Even if she is taking it for A level - as long as a 6 is acceptable to the school, making it into a 7 won't make her any better at biology IYSWIM. Agree tho there is a 19-mark difference between those GBs this year,

Very happy here. 999887776, like some of the others English Language has thrown a curve ball and after consistently getting 9s got a 7. Teacher has recommended a review.
Art raw marks suggested a 7 however looks like this has been moderated down. I wish she could see how good these results are but is focused on the ones she wanted a higher grade. I’m so proud but it’s hard to celebrate with a moaning teenager! Bring on the wine 🍷🥂.

Mine is now unhappy with his 5 in Maths - I’ve told him he can retake it at any point over next 2/3 years if he wants - of course he doesn’t 😂.. why do they fixate on the disappointments and completely ignore the successes … an 8 in Eng lit and the fact that only one result was actually a 4 after all the worry

The only difference would be for uni as she might want to go into veterinary medicine and I don't think she can with a 6 in Biology. I think most unis would want at least a 7. We're happy with the 6, although she has been consistently at an 8/9 throughout in mocks etc. But the two Biology papers were for some reason an unexpected disaster for her and she was sure she didn't even make the 6 she needed for college, so big relief here.

Passed maths which was my main worry. Other subjects were 4s and 5s except for French which was an 8!
Looking good for French A level @clary , feeling less confident about History which was a 5.

In that case it would certainly be worth someone looking at it :)

Dd is disappointed she didn’t get more 9s. She got 9,9,8,8,7 (all essay subjects) 6,6,6,5 (stem)

Shes one mark off a 9 in English literature having always got high 9s so she’s annoyed about that but will definitely be remarked for the sake of one mark. She’s 2 marks off a 6 in physics so will remark that too but she’ll never do stem subjects again so she doesn’t care really.

Exactly the same here. And 2 off it in Chemistry.

Doesnt affect next steps but I’m wondering if we should push for it. Especially for Uni application purposes.

Dd was a little disappointed. She got 7777666665 (plus a 9 from 2 years ago). 2 of the 6s are 1 mark off a 7 so I think we will ask for copies (free) and a regrade if the teachers think it's worth it. Dd really wants to (she worked her socks off for a 7 in biology and missing it by 1 mark seems unfair, but there needs to be a cut off...). She was sure maths and drama would be 8s so she was disappointed with 7 and 6 respectively.
She asked to do biology in addition to maths psychology and french to give her the option but she's on a waiting list (only 3 of them waiting but will depends on the external applicants results tomorrow). I think it was disheartening to hear the math teacher (who never taught her) saying she'll have to work hard for the A level. She doesnt know the 100s of hours dd put in. I think a couple of 8s might have helped, i left her with her straight 9s friends and she was feeling a little flat.

My DS appears to have got 100% in Eng Lit, on both papers he is not studying it for A level, or at least he wasn’t planning to… now he’s wondering but I don’t think his heart would be in it, so I am sort of saying well what’s changed. Not sure if that’s right or not though.

DD has a friend who got 100% in maths. I think to get everything perfect when under that much pressure is truly remarkable!

Super happy here - she’s exceeded the 48 points she needs from 8 for 6th form. However, she English Language was way off and she scraped a 4 (has consistently tracked a 6 or 7) so no idea what happened. They were both double exam days so maybe that had an impact? We’ve requested the scripts as she needs a 5 for the A-Levels she’s picked… arggghhhhh!!

Exactly the same - at mocks we were told that she had got 6 and would easily get a 7 🙁 she got a 4, 4 marks of a 5. School are going to look at her marks to decide whether to do a remark or not

If anyone worked hard, it’s your dd @Caddycat - I remember your posts about how hard she was grafting. Those are great results, and I hope in time she can feel proud of them, and of her superb efforts.

Thank you. I cant help but feel a little sad for her and scared she will exhaust herself through A levels. We are celebrating though, I want her to be proud of these results.

Just an FYI - lots of my highest ability students got 1 or 2 grades below their mocks in English Lit. Lots of 7s and 8s where I was sure they would get 9s. This was also the case with my dd who got 9s in mocks for Eng Lit and 7 in the exams. This suggests to me there were some real crème de la crème candidates (like your fantastic ds, @whereonthestair !) making the grade boundaries high - tho have not actually sat down and look at the boundaries yet. Anyway I know my dd found it quite reassuring to know this seems to be a trend.

(I also did, as per my post earlier, tell her to give her head a wobble about being disappointed with what is essentially an A!)

This is interesting to hear. Dd has consistently got 9s in both lang and lit. She got a solid 8 lang and one mark off a 9 for lit - this one well defo remark. But it’s thrown her off so much and we’ve had to have a lot of chats!

Aww @Caddycat I agree - your lovely DD worked so so hard and she should be proud of those results!

@Drivingselfmad anecdotally this trend is what DS and friends have found too...so many of them dropped a grade below what they expected in either English language or literature. Also seems to have been the case in the school I work in.

Anyone else feel absolutely exhausted?? I think the adrenaline is wearing off now and I could sleep for a week.
