Ah! Are you going far? What time is your flight due back in?!

Yes, over to Shanghai and Beijing and then back home on Thursday. My flight lands at 6.30am so I'll be legging it through the airport to try to catch the 7.36 train home. If I make it, it stops outside DS's school at 8.45, just in time to collect his results at 9! I'm only flying with hand luggage and have comfy shoes planned to give me the best chance of getting on that train.

UncomfortableSilence · 15/08/2026 19:08

God speed @NotDarkGothicMama 😁 Praying it all lines up for you on the day!

Dd has made the decision not to go to get her results. She has been given the opportunity to do something connected to her sport (she isn’t a tennis player but if she was it would be the equivalent of playing an exhibition match on Centre Court at Wimbledon to entertain the crowd before the final) and so is doing that instead.

I am a bit stressed. She has managed to confirm with her current school to get the results (hopefully at 9am so she will get them in the car on the way as she has to be 50 miles from our house at 10am) but we don’t know how she tells her new school.

Hopefully an email will come out and tell us! We didn’t know about this when it was the taster day so she didn’t ask the vital question.

@Curlyfrizzball you can enrol in more than one. That's our plan too. Enrol in two and then make a final decision in the next week.

Oh now that’s an idea for us. Maybe see if can enrol at two colleges if still undecided. God it’s so hard

Tebheag · 15/08/2026 21:51

Good luck @NotDarkGothicMama getting back in time.

DS just put of accepting his place till couple of days before term start. He did reply to both when they emailed jhim asking uf he eas goingbto accept the place asking a question and when they replied he said he was trying to decide where to go. Definetly helped take the pressure if DD as she only decided this week where to go.
DD is getting £50 per 8/9 and £50 fir a 7 in English its her weekest subject money is reduced depending on grade.

Goung to take her and DS out for a meal to celebrate its all over at a fancy local steak place.

Funkylights · 15/08/2026 22:53

It had never occurred to me to delay final decision by enrolling at more than one. Until saw these posts. That would certainly give us breathing space. One of her options starts before others even enrol which may be tricky. But that her back up option if doesn’t get 6667

Ifonlyoneday · 16/08/2026 04:03

ooh, fingers crossed you make it back in time @NotDarkGothicMama.

we are on holiday and fly back on the 19th, my DTs are fairly relaxed about the results and know they’ll get back into their very low grades needed to stay on school sixth form. They are also very sure what A levels they want to do. Both DTs have completed the bridging work for 1 A level subject, almost finished subject 2, but I think it’s going to be a last minute sprint for their subject 3s.

i on the other hand am getting less and less sleep and doom thinking results day. even though I should have nothing to worry about. I don’t think this is helped by the weather making it hard to sleep, plus the menopause making it hard to sleep and making me more anxious, plus the normal parent, I want them to do well as they did really work hard. I know they’ll be absolutely fine, just needed to switch my overthinking brain off.

i am looking forward to hearing about all your DCs results as this group of threads has been so supportive for the last 2 years. I hope we are all moving on to a year 12 one.

no presents planned here, but have booked a meal. Fortunately DTs grandparents and wider family are their biggest cheerleaders, so it doesn’t matter what they get they’ll be widely congratulated. Feeling for those whose wider family are not supportive and reading about the A level thread where the parent has had to lie that DC has passed and got into uni when they haven’t due to family pressures has reminded me just how fortunate my DTs are.

We’ll be away away on holiday on Thursday, so DS will get his results by email. It will be nice to get away at last - there’s been too much screen time really (but then DS has needed some downtime, so…?).

Fingers crossed for everyone on Thursday.

Ah our school categorically will not email results! It’s either face to face, next day post or nominate someone to collect for you.

Littletreefrog · 16/08/2026 07:59

A year 12 thread sounds like a great idea to support everyone with helping their young person find their feet. I may try to start a "anything that's not year 12" thread for those going on to T levels or apprenticeships etc

Bluebelle8261 · 16/08/2026 08:13

Im abt annoyed that this year dd school can only go between 9-10am. Very overwhelming for everyone. Think it would be better over a couple hours.

makemineadecaf · 16/08/2026 08:16

Anyone else having dreams about results day now? Me - not dd! I’ve also been having long chats with gpt asking what percentage typically equals which grade. I need my own head to chill out!

I am usually an over thinker but right now I am chill. There is literally nothing we can do. If my dd doesnt get the grades to do her choices then there will be another path she can take and maybe that is what is meant to be.

NotDarkGothicMama · 16/08/2026 09:03

Normally I'd have a spreadsheet going to work it out, but DS didn't bother with his mocks so there's no data for me to work with. He could get anything between a fail and a 9 for most of his subjects. No clue until the day so there's no point in me worrying about it.

Walkingbkwrm · 16/08/2026 09:04

@makemineadecaf - me! I’m the opposite of @Bluebelle8261 , normally quite what will be will be but not this time apparently! Roll on Thursday, I just really want to know now.

Stowickthevast · 16/08/2026 09:10

I'm definitely in the thinking about it camp! I'm not worried that she'll have done badly but am a bit worried about the peer pressure at her ridiculously academic grammar. A couple of her besties have been predicted straight 9s so just think DD may end up with amazing grades but not feel like they're amazing compared with her peers..I do realise this is a privileged problem to have though.

Curlyfrizzball · 16/08/2026 09:13

Are people going in with their child to collect results? DD says she wants me to, but other parents tell me it’s not really common at her school. I’ve told her to just decide what she wants when we arrive.

she doesn’t want to open them with friends anyway, since her best friend is predicted a string of 9s and she won’t get that.

It’s standard for parents to go. They do a huge balloon arch and buffet breakfast for everyone in the courtyard.

We are doing the same here. Don't commit on the day.

I have taken the day off. I will sit in carpark and wait. My dd wants to open them by herself and I agree as want her to be happy with what she has got not compare to everyone else.

Ah, I was thinking we would have to decide on results day which college she is picking.

GucciGin · 16/08/2026 09:23

I'm waiting in the car or outside the school. 6th form are on hand to discuss options so he said he may want me around for that.

Walkingbkwrm · 16/08/2026 09:24

That must make it very hard to plan next steps @NotDarkGothicMama ! Do they have an idea of what they would like to do next year?

Parents don’t normally come in at ours but DS1 has told me firmly that I’m coming or he will chicken out! Think we are picking the envelope up and running for the car/somewhere private though.

Littletreefrog · 16/08/2026 09:27

Parents not allowed into DS's school for results or into college for enrollment later the same day. I have taken the day off for the few bits in between where I can be present.
