Sorry to hear this, I know it’s so tough to decide when to break news. I can hear my DD now playing in her room. She hasn’t asked me so I haven’t told her. Has your DD been asking about the result? If she doesn’t ask then I wouldn’t tell her unless she asks. I’m planning to be really positive about our next 2 exams. Good luck with the ones you waiting for! Hope your DD gets her first choice x

Edited

No she hasn't asked... but some of her friends sat, so by Monday I'm sure she'll hear about results being out

NookAndCrannying · 04/10/2025 20:18

Yes we’re in the same boat. I’m conscious that one of the less kind kids sat the test also so want to make sure that he hears results are out from us this weekend before he goes back to school.
We’ve decided to tell him tomorrow but mainly because there’s two months til the next exam. But I’ll be sure to say not to discuss it with others in case other parents aren’t inclined to discuss it
I did a lot of data collecting last night, and have realised that even a 1000ish ranking isn’t necessarily the sign that I’d totally misunderstood his abilities which is the conclusion I first jumped to.
Because so many kids score the same amount of points, I think the difference of a questions or two can make huge ranking differences.
So hoping we’re really not so far off for future exams.

Lamarais · 04/10/2025 15:05

They take some catchment kids too don’t they? I wondered how those kids cope with the pressure.

Yes with 20 catchment places and 75 sibling places compared to only 65 exam places, you’d think there might be a few kids in the same boat. (Latest allocation data I could find anyway.) Although I guess it’s a bit of a self selecting group with the postage stamp catchment and bright sibling

Has Heckmondwike Grammar released results of its test? Heard on the grapevine some kids have already been informed they have been offered a place? They send out different letters to the ones who are guaranteed a place?Letter A

How can the school guarantee a place when I thought the local council manages the allocation? I thought that the schools inform the parents of the ranking and then you apply based on that.

My dd did not sit for Heckmondwike, she sat the Halifax exam (for Crossleys and NHGS), but on the Yorkshire section of the 11plusforum it looks like some may have received letters for Heckmondwike.

Good luck to your DC.

Waiting is driving me insane!

If the admissions timeline says on 10th October "Parents will have received the results of the admissions test, but this will
not constitute an offer of a place", do we think the results will come on that day, or any day in the preceding week?

Exactly same here, still waiting without any updates. I have no idea what the outcome will be, and I understand how uncertain it feels. At the moment, I’m just waiting for the Trafford Consortium result, but it’s still unclear whether the announcement will be on 16th October or 21st October.

Two years ago it was Thursday before half-term. So I put my mind on 23rd and forgot about it.

DD didn’t get in either for Latymer. I have t told her and I’m not sure when and how to. This was our first choice. Waiting on 2 more we did but I’m feeling so sad for her.

@NookAndCrannying So I told DD today.. she asked me if we had result as one of her friends made the top 700. So ivjust answered honestly and said that she didn't get through... she took it well as I immediately reminded her that it wasn't her first choice and the school was far, etc. She seemed to take it okay. Have you told yet?

@Tea4216 have you broken the news yet? I feel for you as I know it's your first choice :( What other 2 results are you waiting for? Sorry if you've already said - I've lost track! Fingers crossed x

TheLiloAndTheSlowCooker · 05/10/2025 20:56

@LadyCrazyCatLady DD also sat for the Halifax test (although I don't think will get in) - I took it to mean some time before Friday.

LadyCrazyCatLady · 05/10/2025 21:07

Good luck @TheLiloAndTheSlowCooker I think I'll be on tenterhooks all week this week.

Good luck to you too! We are also waiting for Skipton results, which I think will be the week after.

SatsumaCat · 05/10/2025 21:24

Bexley results day has been updated - Friday 17th October! Aargh I was sure (hoped) it would be this week.

Also Bexley Grammar School are going to have to decide whether to reschedule their open days as the dates are 14-16th but supposed to be after the results!

ah that’s great it went well @SFV we had similar, we told DS this morning and he was actually quite proud of his 1000 ranking… so I’m pleased he’s not destroyed by the process.
It wasn’t our target school so I think he was super pragmatic about it and he was quick to point out it didn’t test his strongest suit (NVR).
It will def not go the same way if he doesn’t have get into his two favourites. But we’re trying to keep practice up but the pressure low…
good luck @Tea4216
Also hope you’re mum is doing ok@Magnificentkitteh

Magnificentkitteh · 05/10/2025 22:13

Glad the kids are taking the results in their stride. What troopers they are.

Thanks for the well wishes @NookAndCrannying , I am home at least, as is DM, but it's been another difficult weekend. I feel I have neglected the prep for Henrietta Barnett round 2 as a result but hoping it's more general skill based than round 1. Is an early start tomorrow.

Where did you see this? Doesn’t it just say BY Friday 17th so doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t be before surely?

Oops yes I think you're right, the actual bit of the Bexley webpage that I've usually been checking stills says date to be confirmed. I think google AI put the 17th date up the top when I did a search and I thought it was news when it must have been what they've always said is the latest date they'll come out by. Really hope it's this week then!

Magnificentkitteh · 06/10/2025 09:17

Waiting for DD to do Henrietta Barnett round 2 exam. Have been checking out the walk to the bus stop. It's at least 15 minutes but rather lovely. School looks like Mallory Towers or something. Hard not to get excited for her.

Also waiting for Skipton, 3 years ago we got the letter 2 weeks to the day from the test, so this coming Saturday. That was girls school, this time waiting for the boys school results. Officially it does say from Monday 13th.

Yes, it's very beautiful from the outside and the area is also lovely - it def doesn't seem to be a dodgy place to walk around! I hope she comes out pleased with how it went :)

Magnificentkitteh · 06/10/2025 12:19

She did thanks. Said there were a couple of difficult maths questions but none she had to guess, and the English was the same format as the EPP paper I printed out for her so that was worth it after all (needless to say i didn't buy the £300 bundle!). The girl behind us had come from Milton Keynes which made me feel better about our walk across the heath and bus (there's also a 2 bus option). I think I'm going to put it as first preference if DD agrees. She favoured Latymer originally because her friend was applying but sadly didn't get through the sift. That journey would be similarly long but would involve a train and a less nice bus route.

Amazing! Well done to her! Yes, my DD didn't make the cut for Latymer, but my hubby had already said she couldn't take public transport there as he found it really dodgy!!

Magnificentkitteh · 06/10/2025 12:32

Ah I think they'd be ok. There's a bus that goes from outside the door to the station, but there's not much around about if they wanted to hang with friends after school. A cafe across the road or a fairly nondescript park and a dingy shopping centre were all I could find really.

Lamarais · 06/10/2025 12:51

Feel like I’m losing my mind waiting for these results. We sat our first one at the very start of September and the results aren’t due til next week. Feel like I’m constantly trying to work out how likely it is and it’s such a totally pointless exercise because what’s done is done and the result is already determined. Just put us out of our misery!

This is exactly how I feel. End of October is just do far away!

IsThatYouPam · 06/10/2025 13:33

Also just want the results out of the way! Think we've got at least another 2 weeks (guessing it will be anything between October 21st-23rd going by the last few years). We went to see the schools DS could choose between if he doesn't pass over the last two weeks and he really loved one (and will have friends there) so we just want to be able to know what he can put on the council application form once and for all!

Pretty sure they have the results well before they release them too as two years ago one of the grammars here accidentally published them 2 weeks early (then swiftly removed them off the system) and they were the exact results that were pubished officially on the real results day!
