Junior maths challenge 2025

Does anyone know when the results and boundaries get announced? How was this year’s paper in comparison to previous years?

DD sat it and thought some of them were quite hard so had to guess them, but she hasn’t done much of the past papers so doesn’t have much to compare against.

any insights would be very much appreciated.

y son did this and still haven’t had any results. I suspect it’s just the school being crap. But annoying when I put the time in fighting him to do the zooms.

We dont have results yet either. In honesty DC's school isn't really very on it so haven't a clue when they are likely to get result back. DC doesn't think they did very well anyway!

DS12 did the Olympiad last year and got a merit….
…..found out this morning he’s only gone and got himself a gold medal!!! One more year of JMC/JMO next year.
I’m amazed! And so delighted for him.
He really loves maths and spends a lot of his free time doing puzzles and problems, but he didn’t do any formal preparation or any courses. He just really adores the subject.

That’s amazing news - congratulations to your son!! You must be so proud. We haven’t had DD’s back yet.

In the Marker’s Report it mentions that for Question 3 - The question was marked by 12 markers who spent much time writing comments in the hope they would help candidates improve as mathematicians in any future problems. We urge all students to read the comments and reattempt the question if the comments spurred them to any extra thoughts.

My DC’s school have said their was no feedback from UKMT just the mark breakdown per question. Does anyone know if you do get feedback and whether the schools should already have it or if it gets sent at a later date? Thanks so much.

Your school would have received for each JMO participant a userid and password which can be used to retrieve scans of the participant's script. Ask them for the userid and password.

DS got bronze, no idea what that means. School just sent the certificate but nothing else

Bronze in the JMO means he placed in the top100-200. Top 40 is gold and next 60 is silver.

If Bronze in the Kangaroo Round then it means he is in the top 50% of all people who qualified for the Kangaroo Round, which is top 6% (approx) of all test takers who took the JMC.

I remember seeing this on mobile, had no pword and forgot to reply. That's amazing, well done!

My DD got merit yr7 and a higher scoring merit yr8.

But if he's operating at that level then imho he should also take IMC in yr8. My DD did and Cayley qualified, and the 2026 paper was awful.

...and then try SMC yr9. My DD is gonna take it. Don't get into thinking that it's all about advance level theory, it isn't. Most of it is just harder problems.
