DS had felt OK about Maths till the answers started appearing online now thinks he might only have got a 5 due to paper one. He keeps going over it going to feel like very long time waiting for results. No idea how I will cope in 2 years time will have 1 doing ALevels and 1 doing Gcses !!

I do wish that schools would look at teaching the Functional skills exams for both maths and English.

The point of that course being that you have functional maths/Engish for everyday life.
It would mean that students who struggle could do a course more aimed at real life skills. A functional skills level 2 is considered to be the same as a GCSE pass.

I think it would relieve the pressure enormously for those who are borderline, and stop them sitting in an exam where half the paper is too hard for them

Totally agree. The whole education system is so rigid. Sets 40% of kids up to fail right at the start.

Regards answers appearing on social media ... how are these papers being distributed? I thought they were kept under lock and key for a period of time immediately after an exam? Or is our exams officer particularly secure conscious?!! Confused

No idea but DS has just said "what's the point of looking at it, it's too bloody late now and won't change the result?" which is a bloody good point.

BlossomToLeaves · 10/06/2024 20:59

Most of what I've seen on social media is just people remembering and writing out the questions - kind of crowd sourcing the whole paper. I'm sure there are some who sneak papers out as well, though, but not quite this soon. When enough people remember questions and answers, they can pretty much recreate the whole paper, even if they don't have the exact wording.

Big day today with chemistry and history. History is DD’s main subject. She was great yesterday on the flashcards for history, chemistry, not so much.

She looked at TikTok and saw the maths answers and realised she’d got q1 wrong! So unusually for her she looked for more Qs and thinks she got most right which is quite a turn up. We shall see!

Don’t know about her but I am so tired! Apparently she doesn’t need me for physics flash cards and geography is just paper practice so I am done at least and can resume my telly watching tonight !! I have agreed to drive her to school this morning to give her more revision time now and then one more tutor session to transport her to tomorrow and that’s it so far as my assistance goes!

BlackBean2023 · 11/06/2024 07:23

Morning @Countrylife2002 - I'm tired too!

DD is also doing Chem and History (USA) today. History is an A Level choice and she's still feeling a bit bruised from the content revision from P2!

Can't believe that after today we're down to just 1!

Countrylife2002 · 11/06/2024 07:31

@BlackBean2023 good luck to yours ! Yes paper 2 was so much content. This one didn’t seem so bad and was more recently taught. DD has Weimar Germany. Fingers crossed for a kind paper.

Also nice to have the house for myself for a day!

She has 2 Friday but then done .

MonkeyTennis34 · 11/06/2024 07:40

Good luck everyone, Chemistry for DD today.

The end is in sight 🙌🏻

DramaLlamaBangBang · 11/06/2024 07:42

Good luck everyone! History and chemistry today. Loads of history revision done. Apparently chemistry is the 'easy stuff like oil'!

bluefineliner · 11/06/2024 07:44

Good luck everyone today!

DD has chem and history, chem is an A level, history not, so am really hoping she copes with chem better. She tells me she doesn't know enough for either, but has been revising. Told her to focus on chem and history will be what it is.

She is grumpy and stressed this morning, so therefore so am I 😂but will keep a cheery demeanor until I have dropped her off at school.

One more to go after today, thank goodness the end is near.

xx

Brilliant 😂I've just been doing DDs flashcards about the 'easy oil stuff'!

My brain stopped at the word polyesters.

Fingers crossed they are nice papers.

Lalux · 11/06/2024 07:49

Good luck again for today. Just Chemistry for ds (he did History too but only 2 papers).

Gazelda · 11/06/2024 07:54

DD's last 'big' day today - history and chemistry.

I'm still isolating because I've got Covid so DH has been taking her to school. He was growling at her like a bear with a sore head today to hurry up. I know it was childish and undermining, but I was making faces behind his back to cheer her up.

I don't care what it takes to make sure she's in the best mood possible until she's finished on Friday.

Then she's in for a whole world of trouble because her bedroom is a tip.

gingercat02 · 11/06/2024 07:56

DS just left for chemistry warm up. Nothing else now until Friday, so we are definitely on the final push now. GL all ☘️

ouch44 · 11/06/2024 07:57

DD has Chem and Further Maths today. Then she’ll only have physics and FM paper 2. Whoop!!

DS has only 4 Alevel exams to go. I can’t believe we have nearly made it through the 30+ exams!!

I have no idea how DD is still going! She must have inherited all the stubborn from me and DH! Both DC love Maths and find it easy and DS has helped with revision so DD found yesterdays Maths paper easy and finished early.

Good luck everyone the end is in sight!!

I always wonder how I’d do if I took the exams. Some I could probably scrape a 1 through general knowledge and the discussions I’ve had with ds. Some subjects I studied to A Level so hopefully could still get a pass. Chemistry however I do not understand a single word of!

Ds now realises he got a lot more wrong in maths than he originally thought sadly. Somehow I think that’s going to be the story for everything

This is my impression too. DS says the teachers have the papers immediately after the exams so when they run a post exam session it wouldn't be the most difficult thing in the world for the students to sneak some photos.

Good luck to all our students for Chemistry and Further Maths today - and to A level taking siblings also. Best of luck!

Waspie · 11/06/2024 09:02

Hope you feel better soon @Gazelda

LOL! DS will also need at least 3 hours to clear out and clean up his pigsty of a room. I've been biting my tongue but it's sooooo hard! I fully expect the bins and dishwasher to be full of stuff previously lurking in the corners and under his bed 😱

gingercat02 · 11/06/2024 09:18

Keeping DS bedroom in a reasonable state has been one of my exam concessions. That stops on Friday, he will be devastated 🤣.
