Tiredalwaystired

It is entirely of our own making and I too don't remember my parents being on my back about revision.
They didn't put any pressure on me about education...or anything!

I went to University and had a professional role so did well.

It feels like such a different landscape now.

No my parents didn't either. I was talking about this with my hairdresser and she said she regretted that her parents weren't that bothered and she didn't do as well as she thought she could have, so it goes both ways I suppose. She said she's pusher with her kids. I was quite self motivated and did it all myself, but maybe we are too involved now, who knows?

Is q5 always a speech, or article? Do letters come up often?

It could be any of those things

It’s entirely of our own making though if we admit it.

My parents hadn’t got a clue what options I was taking let alone what day the exams were on.

I was just meaning they don't know the worry and love we have behind the scenes - and rightly so! I absolutely don't tell him all the time about how much I think about him whilst he's doing the exams... it just slipped out.

From the posts on here I think most are the same. It just made me smile that my DS has no idea how I feel and I'm pleased about that!

StarShipControl · 24/05/2024 07:58

Ds has French today. Good luck to all the other dcs sitting an exam today.

Mcvitieschoccybiscuit · 24/05/2024 08:10

Before these exams started I couldn’t understand why they scheduled them over a half term and not just got them over and done with. I was so so wrong! They so need this break.

Oh I absolutely agree with you! I’m no different!

@bluefineliner French students may well be saying ‘merde’ rather than bonne chance. My dd also has her AQA French writing exam today. Only 1 hour 15 and she’s really confident. Dd should be considering dh is French and I’m also fluent. Idk if she will get a 9 though as she’s done zero revision for it due to her ED and her oral went badly (reluctant speaker so not fluent…). I advised her to prioritise her limited energy to English, maths and science. She had her leavers before exams started and has been on study leave since. I agree with your sentiment that I hope everyone has a fab time on their leavers. Merde for your dd today and everyone else taking exams today.

That’s interesting to read. Ds has always been good at French - although we are not French speakers! He was always predicted a 8/9 but he has done no revision at all for it frustratingly. He has been concentrating on the A level subjects. He said this morning that he was confident so let’s see!

Good luck to your dd

Techno56 · 24/05/2024 08:34

Another one v happy to be saying au revoir to french this morning 🤞

My son uses a laptop and they had a session a while ago making sure he had quick access to all the accents etc that he needs, I hope it works!!

French writing today, another one who has done little revision as she "did well mocks with no revision"! We'll see!

JessyCarr · 24/05/2024 08:50

DD happy to be doing French today (favourite subject which she will continue at A Level). I am taking her out for a nice lunch afterwards to celebrate getting through to half term.

Surprising teenage utterance of the week: “I’ve been really enjoying maths revision. Maybe I should be picking it for A Level?”.

Hope today goes well for all those with exams, and may the sun shine on the leavers’ celebrations!

WarningOfGails · 24/05/2024 09:08

DD said she finished an hour early with Eng Lang yesterday which doesn’t feel good to me!! She should be aiming for an 8/9…

If only my DD had that issue. She ran out of time…….again…….

I think there’s a happy medium which would be finishing with enough time to check your work!

Me too! I wondered why they didn't just start after half term but now I fully agree that this mid-exam break is very much needed.

All the best to those doing French writing today!

DS has gone into school (they are still running a normal timetable) but no exams as his Mandarin writing was on Wednesday.

Pharos · 24/05/2024 10:28

French writing was ‘not too bad’ and he had time left over which for him is a good thing.

Hooray for half term, they all really need a break (as do we 😉)

MyOtherProfile · 24/05/2024 11:27

Just heard French was good - Edexcel here.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 24/05/2024 11:50

Physics was ‘good, pretty easy!’ apparently!

He’s gone straight to the gym now !

happy half term everyone.

Lalux · 24/05/2024 12:12

French ok here too. The writing parts were good although translation was a bit tricky.

gingercat02 · 24/05/2024 13:27

Happy half term one and all. Hope everyone (parents and kids) gets some downtime

Same here translation hard rest was ok. She’s off to the park now with friends .

StarShipControl · 24/05/2024 15:18

French was ok here too. Ds has gone out with friends. Back to revision from tomorrow.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/05/2024 16:07

DD has just come in with her signed shirt in a highly emotional state Grin keeps sobbing while re-reading it.

I think they're absolutely knackered!

MonkeyTennis34 · 24/05/2024 16:26

DD just arrived home all excitable with her friends, shirts covered with messages.

They're getting ready to go the beach for a party. Supposedly ending at 9...

You'd think their exams were over! But a nice respite.

steppemum · 24/05/2024 17:34

leavers day on 14th June for us, last exam for most.

Dd and I just tried to have a chat about what she wanted to do over half term, and I dared to mention English. She promptly had a good old shout at me, because she f up paper 1 so badly that there is NO POINT in doing anything at all for paper 2, as she has already failed, yada, yada, yada.

So that means no English revision and heading in to the exam with a zero confidence and zero effort, so yes, now she will fail.

So frustrating as with some work she could do it, but no, she has now decided that English is a write off.
