I know a lot about Aqa paper 2

Hi what is on paper 2? And any tips on revision work for it?

DS just just told me he did the desert but sounds more like he wrote a story rather than a description he wrote about his Shadow being like a stalker etc !

2 texts

Q1 - a small part of source A. 4 things which are true from a selection.

Q2 - a summary of the similarities or differences of something in both. Must compare. Not about language.

Q3 - language analysis. A small part of one source. Read carefully so you get the right one.

Q4 - compare the ways the perspectives about a thing are presented in both. Must compare. Must write about language

Q5 - non fiction writing

Anyone else got an ancient history kid? Apparently the cleopatra paper was awful have you had the same feedback?

Same here. Cleopatra questions were hard apparently.

Newlittlerescue · 23/05/2024 16:50

More context now DS is home. The short answer questions were okay (not great, but as expected) but the two Cleopatra longer questions were really hard. The first one - Cleopatra's issues with her father - wasn't really covered by any of the sources (as in the syllabus materials) and the second one was really oddly worded. All his class found it hard.

I think my DD said it was the short Cleopatra questions that her class struggled with.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 23/05/2024 22:36

Physics tomorrow then a half term to relax a bit. Lots of Geography to revise though apparently.

DS just just told me he did the desert but sounds more like he wrote a story rather than a description he wrote about his Shadow being like a stalker etc !

It’s made very clear in the mark schemes and course materials that the quality of the writing is what is marked, regardless of whether it’s a description that’s a bit like a story or vice versa. Don’t worry.

Apolloneuro · 23/05/2024 23:53

DramaLlamaBangBang · 23/05/2024 16:15

DS is worried about the last question becsuse he wrote about a disagreement, but it was set in the desert! I'm not sure what happens in that situation! He said he enjoyed writing it and used lots of description etc but said he'd have his marks capped for doing both parts of the question? I said surely his story was about a disagreement it just happened to be set in the desert?!

He will be fine. It’s the quality of the writing that is marked. Honestly, tell him not to worry. I think it’s really sensible to use the photo as a stimulus.

MrsHamlet · 23/05/2024 16:17

He doesn't need to worry

@MrsHamlet my DD chose the disagreement option but wrote about being on a train journey reminiscing, and part of her reminiscing was 3 different disputes she had had with people. She's now worried she didn't focus enough on a disagreement and just made it part of a bigger story. Do you think she has got it wrong?

Same here. It's not so much the geography revision of what they've already done but the extra fact finding and remembering for that final paper.

WhereAreWeNow · 24/05/2024 06:00

French today then half term. Thank god! This has been such a gruelling fortnight.

dinomirror · 24/05/2024 06:12

@MrsHamlet Dd just realised that for q4 she probably wrote about the wrong part of the extract. Would the question just get no marks?

She did talk a bit about the part of the extract that they were meant to but mainly not

Tebheag · 24/05/2024 06:24

Yippee no exams for 10 days. DS kept saying last night can't believe it's my last day at school tomorrow. So many of his friends are splitting off in different directions so was a bit sad !

Marks are awarded for what is right, not taken away for what isn't. That's true of all exams, to my knowledge.

bluefineliner · 24/05/2024 06:39

Ah hope all the students having their leavers celebrations today have a fab day. DD has hers before exams started and there were tears, lots of photos and glitter, but also a sense of relief that she is moving on. She is going to a different school for sixth form, so a whole new world awaits!

DD has a teeny tiny French writing paper this morning, then a sleepover and day shopping with a friend tomorrow which will be really good for her. I feel she will have a good week exam free, but she has mentioned she has to 'pull it all back' with the paper 2s after the break 🙄.

Good luck for today (or is it Bonne Chance? I don't know I only learned German!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/05/2024 07:04

Hope all your DCs enjoy any leavers events today - going to be a bit soggy for sitting in the field for ours today Grin

Any I do yours doing exams today ... hope they go well too.

Is q5 always a speech, or article? Do letters come up often?

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/05/2024 07:13

@bluefineliner French students may well be saying ‘merde’ rather than bonne chance. My dd also has her AQA French writing exam today. Only 1 hour 15 and she’s really confident. Dd should be considering dh is French and I’m also fluent. Idk if she will get a 9 though as she’s done zero revision for it due to her ED and her oral went badly (reluctant speaker so not fluent…). I advised her to prioritise her limited energy to English, maths and science. She had her leavers before exams started and has been on study leave since. I agree with your sentiment that I hope everyone has a fab time on their leavers. Merde for your dd today and everyone else taking exams today.

Tiredalwaystired · 24/05/2024 07:16

Popfan · 23/05/2024 20:08

I said to DS earlier 'Good it's half term now so you get a break from exams' I then muttered 'I'm quite glad to get a break too'

He replied, 'Why do you need a break, what do the exams have to do with you?' !!!!!

Obviously he's not really wrong... but also honestly!!!! They literally have no idea do they?!

It’s entirely of our own making though if we admit it.

My parents hadn’t got a clue what options I was taking let alone what day the exams were on.

Countrylife2002 · 24/05/2024 07:26

I’ve just turned our alarms off woop!

DD is perky. She says she is planning to come home after the exam, have a shower and get into bed !

The nerves have pretty much gone now , which is incredible considering how bad she was the week leading to the exams.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 24/05/2024 07:45

Hope all the kids have a brilliant last day of "big school". Where does the time go, honestly!

My dc did this as well.

MonkeyTennis34 · 24/05/2024 07:48

Tiredalwaystired

It is entirely of our own making and I too don't remember my parents being on my back about revision.
They didn't put any pressure on me about education...or anything!

I went to University and had a professional role so did well.

It feels like such a different landscape now.

MyOtherProfile · 24/05/2024 07:52

For the french writing today I've been stressing to my DC to check agreements. So if they're writing about something feminine make sure words agree, and the same if it's plural, make sure any related words are plural - article, adjectives, endings.
