I'm going to probably have this with DS2. He's sailing through everything but gets very upset at results DS1 would be delighted with. Hopefully if maths is her favourite subject it will just come to her. I did a maths course as an adult and he said once the neurons are built on maths they are just ' there'. I don't know how true that is but it made me feel better!

I seem to remember a Horizon type program which examined whether there is actually a Maths gene.

Glad your son got his Weimar question yesterday Smile

DS doesn't have an exam this afternoon so I'm planning to call him in sick after lunch so that he can come home and study for Chemistry tomorrow, It's the weakest of the sciences for him and he could do with the quiet revision time.

@Pharos I think having a good teacher in maths (or any subject) is really important. My son struggled with maths - never thought he was any good at the subject - but he's had the same teacher throughout secondary school and he's been fantastic and maths is now one of DS' favourite subjects.

Thank you to all the teachers - you are legends Flowers Wine

Fingers crossed that maths p1 is going well for all of our students today and good luck to those with exams this afternoon!

@Stoufer I agree and think it's probably an "all of the above " one.

I'm significantly more grey/wrinkly than I was 6 months ago also Grin

I don't know how I will cope with A-levels?! 😌

I may have to drink through the entire 2 years

Pharos · 16/05/2024 10:36

@Wehaditsogood Having now had 3 dcs do A Levels, I actually found them far easier to support than during GCSEs tbh.

Yes the topics are harder/more in depth but in the vast majority of cases they’ll be studying subjects they genuinely enjoy or are interested in, so motivating them to work is generally less of an issue.

That said, I bet #4 will be the exception to the rule 🙄😉

Countrylife2002 · 16/05/2024 10:37

Maths = ‘a bit rubbish’

Countrylife2002 · 16/05/2024 10:39

But that’s just maths as far as I’m concerned ! One step nearer to finishing maths forever for dd!

JessyCarr · 16/05/2024 10:43

Which board @Countrylife2002 ?

Countrylife2002 · 16/05/2024 10:47

This is edexcel but maths is DD’s nemesis, always has been. On the positive side, she didn’t cry for the first time!

Countrylife2002 · 16/05/2024 10:47

She said other people seem to have found it hard, but she tends to avoid chat about maths exams…!

Countrylife2002 · 16/05/2024 10:49

Twitter is going apeshit about how hard it was - yay!

JessyCarr · 16/05/2024 10:49

Eeek. Edexcel here too.

JessyCarr · 16/05/2024 10:50

TSR also very “wtf???” about Edexcel Higher.

Countrylife2002 · 16/05/2024 10:51

Omg I’m so happy maybe she’s managed a 7!

Countrylife2002 · 16/05/2024 10:51

What is tsr? I’m screenshotting and sending it all to her!

JessyCarr · 16/05/2024 10:52

TSR= The Student Room

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 16/05/2024 10:54

Is this higher?
DS said the same

JessyCarr · 16/05/2024 10:58

DD now surfaced from Edexcel - says it was hard but she kept her head! (This is one of my mantras - there WILL be hard papers, so be the one who keeps your head).

Wehaditsogood · 16/05/2024 10:59

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz I'll go and get the gin.

@Pharos Thanks for giving us hope.

Off to The Student Room. How do they know?! The exam lasts 2 hours.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 16/05/2024 10:59

JessyCarr · 16/05/2024 10:59

@Wehaditsogood No it’s a 90-minute paper.

Wehaditsogood · 16/05/2024 11:02

Oh, our timetable says 2 hours and DS has not brought a ticket home yet.
