This time next week it's not long to go until the breather of half term Grin

🙈😢 no half term here! They have it later in the term when exams are over.
suppose it means a week of ‘good’ revision for the exams to come but would have been lovely to have a break and some chill out time. DD might suddenly get a vomiting bug if it becomes too much 😉 luckily she’s really organised and motivated to work at home.

Dd has history today too, her topic is migrants in Britain today, is any one else's child doing that? She does Weimar and Nazi Germany on 11th June.

@Tebheag My Dd has refused all offers to help her revise, set up a timetable etc so I've been hands off.

@GlomOfNit I did history of medicine GCSE which I found really interesting, all the way from the Egyptians and Greeks to Harvey? and discovering how the heart actually works.

Yes, DS did that this morning. He said it was a bit of a mixed bag but the 16 marker was good. I only realised yesterday that the topic was only introduced in 2022 and that was the only past paper we could find to look at! I have no idea what when through the school's mind when they decided to make them all sit a new topic!

My goodness - sympathies! I was just thinking today that when I was sitting my GCSEs we had weeks of study leave when we didn’t have to go into school before our exams. So different nowadays.

No half term? Is school closed for the other year groups but they are expected to come into school still? With teaching staff on site? I’m amazed by this!

history was ‘alright, tbf’.

No half term for everyone is later.

gosh, is this an English state school? When do they fit half term in before summer holidays?

DippyDoo98 · 15/05/2024 12:07

Yes English state and half term isn’t until mid June. Then a really short final slog until the holidays for my youngest DC!

I have never heard of this! Which LA is it?!

DippyDoo98 · 15/05/2024 12:13

No it’s an academy 😉🙄

boredwithfoodprob · 15/05/2024 12:16

Phew, so apparently History (Medicine paper) apparently had some "good questions" and just one he found very hard. History is hard for him so this sounds positive!

WarningOfGails · 15/05/2024 12:16

I guess parents get a cheap week abroad in late June? Do parents moan about this? I think I would! When I’m prime minister I will insist on all schools in a local area having the same holidays - mine don’t and it drives me potty.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 15/05/2024 12:25

Oh no Dippy! That's rubbish. But hopefully like you say a nearly-breather

DippyDoo98 · 15/05/2024 12:28

Yes I think lots of staff and parents like the opportunity to get a cheap holiday.
I like the opportunity to go to work for a week without stressing over getting them all to school on time! 😉

gingercat02 · 15/05/2024 12:49

I'm quietly dying here waiting for home time for history. I've been told it's too stressful to message after the exam. Seems quite happy to talk in person. Luckily I'm WFH today which is rare!

DramaLlamaBangBang · 15/05/2024 12:51

gingercat02 · 15/05/2024 10:52

It would be great if we all had straight 8/9 grade very capable children. That is not the case here. He's a great kid all the same 🥰😍

💯. Most kids aren't going to coast 10 grade 9s and have to work extremely hard to get the grades to get to their desired next level. Any help I can give, I want to give. I doubt most of the parents here are sitting there for hours every night helping with revision. I am involved, in that I'll ask how the revisions going, will look over something if he asks, and have discussed various things he's looked up, like revision techniques he's read about. That's not getting ' over involved'. It's just supporting learning. I for one am using this thread to freak out so I don't do it at home.

Yes DS isn't allowed to text at school so I have to wait until 3.30 too. His reactions have correlated so far with other DC's here so far, so hopefully I'll get an 'OK to not bad' too. I'm over it already though and it's only the first week!

boredwithfoodprob · 15/05/2024 12:58

Last night I said to my DH - "it's been a long week" - literally forgot I was only Tuesday evening Confused

BestsellingWine · 15/05/2024 13:02

Love That someone else also gets ‘tbf’! Ds doesn’t seem to have any consistency in whether he texts or not - so I can’t make any assumptions when I don’t get a text!

DS has history and CS today. Haven't heard how the history went. Hopefully well he is doing it for A Level

DelilahBucket · 15/05/2024 13:15

DS did history today, Germany and World War One. The message I got was "what are AQA doing, all my exams have been really easy". A large part of me worries he's flown through thinking it's easy peasy while missing the main gist! He has a tendency to rush. He doesn't need history but he does need three 6s and a 7 in maths to get into his preferred college.

GlomOfNit · 15/05/2024 13:20

I'm a bit over-invested in these exams. I ended up having a row with DH last night after DS had gone to bed, about me not heeding DS being tired (he'd asked me to take him through History exam technique/structure, so I wasn't imposing my will on him or anything) and generally being a bit overbearing. I AM being a bit full-on and I hate myself for it! I just want him to be happy with his final marks. Anyway, I suggested that DH take over any help that DS asks for, for the next couple of days, and I'm stepping back a bit.

Countrylife2002 · 15/05/2024 13:21

On the subject of helping. I helped dd all last night by doing quizket with her , ones she had made. I don’t suggest helping (I hate doing it and would much rather watch telly!) but if she asks of course I will help. It’s just me and her so we help each other out - like when she helps when I’m doing a frustrating bit of diy and need someone just to read the instructions again to make sure I’m not going mad!

if she didn’t ask, I wouldn’t make her revise with me. It’s just basic kindness to help if I have the time when she asks.

RachelGreensHair · 15/05/2024 13:37

Has everyone got first Maths exam tomorrow? That's the one am most nervous about.
