Don't think so. They just got a phone call a few weeks after offer day. Were all set to go elsewhere. I suspect either KCS had less offers accepted than expected or they had more but not enough for an extra class so wanted a few more to make one!

Yes this happened at LU last year too. A candidate who had made it through to interview but then not offered a place or put on WL was offered a place a few weeks after offer date. Suspect it doesn’t happen often, but does happen.

sailingsunshine · 07/01/2023 17:06

@Taurus23 , in the past Surbiton offered quite a few academic scholarships of varying %'s. So many that sometimes several dd in each class had 1. This was with the old head. Locally it's widely known that last year they used the same offer ratio as normal but the acceptance was too high and there is no way they can take that number of dd again. Hence no one knows this year how many offers there will be, how many scholarships will be issued to lure the more academic candidates and how heavily the WL will be used. What I would guess is that any dd who is sporty esp in football, cricket and hockey and has met the scholarship criteria will have an easier path because the level of sport at the school is outstanding and they want to keep it that way.

A thought and open question - We are all somewhat assuming that all schools have received more applications (partly because most parents are applying to more schools per child) but I have a feeling that this might have been mostly the case in co-Ed ones but maybe not necessarily (or even at the expense of) single sex ones. WHS and PHS applications seem to be at normal levels, but KGS, IPS and Claremont Fan seem to be higher than usual. What about the boys ones? Also, I think the increase in applications has been mostly felt beyond the most competitive ones (as people seek more "fall backs").

Mentioning / asking as that would have an impact on rejections that schools might need to factor / number of offers they make.

Hampton said 800 applied for 100 places and I understood that to be a very high number of applicants for them.

@confu5ed sorry to hear about Putney. Wishing you all the best for future ones.

What other schools are you looking at? My daughter didn’t get Putney either and now I am worried about her chances at the consortium schools.

Think year before so 21 not 22 ( current year 7) as this year was bulk year and they didn’t go down waitlist much at all

Is this in response to @About24 or @travelturtle ? (that is, about Kings or LU?) Thanks

@Ststreet I wondered if the 800 in the process included those who already have spaces from 10+. I know at least two (probably more) in the room with us today were in that position and of those boys only one has Hampton as their top choice. They said a third of applicants were being interviewed so if they over offer that probably makes it 50:50 to get through.

11plusdoneanddusted · 07/01/2023 17:41

Kings was a couple of years ago.

travelturtle · 07/01/2023 17:43

LU was 2022, so current Y7

Hannah297 · 07/01/2023 18:13

No latymer was 2022 not current year - know that for a fact. Deff happened in 2021 intake though

Hannah297 · 07/01/2023 18:13

Sorry meant 2021 intake 😂

Did she mention one-third get through to the interview stage? In my session, someone was coughing loudly a number of times and I couldn't quite hear whether she had mentioned things like that.

VickiMent · 07/01/2023 18:25

Yes, she said they were interviewing a third of those that sat the assessments. She also said there were 165 places, 25 have been offered to Hampton Prep and 40 were offered at 10+, so there are around 100 places left to offer.

Thanks. I did hear the other numbers when that guy was not coughing. Someone in last year's threads mentioned they interviewed about half of those sitting the exam. Hope the change from half to one-third makes those that get through to the interview have a higher chance of an offer. Do you know how many offers they made?

Daydreamscometrue · 07/01/2023 18:41

Does anyone know how many applied for Emanuel in the end?

Someone mentioned 960 (from a conversation with HM at sports assessment).

@AC7001 I don't know the applicant numbers from previous years but it sounds like most schools have significantly more applicants this year so the change from 1/2 to 1/3 could be that and the number being interviewed might be similar.

I haven't heard anything on how they offer but I know quite a few people who had Hampton interviews today and yesterday who are aiming for other schools so it would seem they should be over offering by quite a bit.

Daydreamscometrue · 07/01/2023 18:57

@QuiteAJourney thanks

KindergartenKop · 07/01/2023 19:27

@AC7001 they didn't say the number of offers they made but implied that it wasn't hugely over 100 because they are usually quite high up people's list of schools. They also mentioned that they usually have a tiny waiting list because they don't always use it.

AC7001 · 07/01/2023 19:31

Do you think it will more likely be closer to 150 or 200?

knopka · 07/01/2023 19:36

Sorry if I missed this but does anyone know how many teachers will do interviews at Claremont?
I know we will do it online and we have been told it will be one person, just wondering how different in person ones are supposed to be (as I underderstand there will be a group exercise).
Also, is anyone sitting 10+ at Emanuel as well?
My boys are sitting 10+ and 11+ and it's really nerve wracking knowing they both have to be offered for us to go there.

KindergartenKop · 07/01/2023 19:46

@AC7001 surely it must be 150ish, so half those interviewed should get an offer? Maybe?

There’s no group exercise at Claremont. It’s a one to one interview - 15 mins.
