i myself have been looking for this thread and have been unsuccessful. Saw a couple people mention it over the past day or so on the 2022 one.

so here we go, albeit a bit late.

has everyone visited all the schools on their lists?

how many schools are everyone applying to?

what schools are you applying to?

how is the preparation going?

i know some exams have taken place, how did they go?

wishing all the whirls good luck with preparation and exams, hope we all find the right schools for our daughters.

Congrats @QuiteAJourney!!

Thanks! DD came out of the exam rather disappointed so we were not expecting it.

swgeek · 01/12/2022 13:25

Well done those who got a yes! @QuiteAJourney just goes to show how we can never know until we get the email!

QuiteAJourney · 01/12/2022 13:59

Thanks all for the congrats.
Hope others have got good news too.

The data on the 2012 birth rate bulge has just depressed me. I was unaware of it. I was managing to stay somewhat upbeat until I read it but am now worrying.

I wouldn't let it depress you, i don't think it is as clear cut as described here.
Almost all of the net "bulge" is in East London.
In the boroughs that are most relevent to this particular thread the birth rate was either flat or down in 2012.
For whatever reason there were increases in Barking, Hillingdon, Redbridge and Tower Hamlets.

Births in London as a whole:
2010: 133,111
2011: 132,843
2012: 134,186

As @iRobot2022 says, this does not apply across London. Plus we do not know how it is reflective across cohorts more like to apply to certain schools. Plus I think more people might have left London than in the past ...

swgeek · 01/12/2022 16:13

plus 1/3 of 2012 borns are applying for 11+ next year, not this. I am sure application numbers have increased but indeed this is also because nowadays people seem to apply for 5-6 schools rather than 3-4 as in the past.

Daydreamscometrue · 01/12/2022 17:15

Anyone heard from Ibstock?

Ok thanks so much, good to know it doesn’t apply across London. It’s a stressful enough process. Fingers firmly crossed.

secondaryquandries · 01/12/2022 17:44

@Daydreamscometrue nope!

Daydreamscometrue · 01/12/2022 17:55

@secondaryquandries either way tomorrow then I guess

secondaryquandries · 01/12/2022 18:11

@Daydreamscometrue hopefully!
I know they always said that results would be out this week but I do think it wouldn't have hurt to send a friendly blanket email- "thank you all for attending, the children worked very hard, we expect the results to be sent towards the end of the week". Rather have than leave us all to get rsi auto refreshing all week!

Wlondonmum2022 · 01/12/2022 18:15

Agree!

Daydreamscometrue · 01/12/2022 18:22

Any ideas on how many they invite for the second round?

secondaryquandries · 01/12/2022 18:34

@Daydreamscometrue no idea. Of all the schools, I think Ibstock's process is the most opaque and least communicative. The open day was impressive but day to day contact not so much. Not sure if it reflects the overall school. Is this others' experience?

QuiteAJourney · 01/12/2022 19:09

@secondaryquandries so far we found KGS the most transparent on process / timings / type of exam. That, in itself, has made it go up our preference list.
I think I am learning much more about the schools from how they organise the admissions process and communicate than I did from the open days.

secondaryquandries · 01/12/2022 19:30

@QuiteAJourney I completely agree and I think my son feels the same!

Daydreamscometrue · 01/12/2022 19:50

@QuiteAJourneyand@secondaryquandries My DS loved the experience at KGS. He enjoyed the exam and was happy coming out.

QuiteAJourney · 01/12/2022 22:40

Good luck for those taking Emanuel tomorrow!

i also heard this school year was more boy heavy in south west London!

NellyCortado · 02/12/2022 09:20

@secondaryquandries completely agree regarding Ibstock. Poor communication and I would have expected some sort of follow up after Saturday's first round. Unimpressed!

DS at Emanuel at the moment. He had a mini meltdown last night, which was heartbreaking. I think he's a bit overtired and drained by the process. Poor kid isn't even half way through, but after this weekend we have a gap until January (unless Ibstock Stage 2 next week...)

Good luck to DCs at Emanuel today.
