Trinity/Whitgift 2021 entry

I have found the previous threads for Trinity/Whitgift entry really helpful, and I don’t think there is a 2021 yet. My son will be trying for 10+, and for a sports scholarship. He is bright, and pleased to be back training for his sports, but he gets really stressed in exam situations and works slowly. He is only trying Trinity this year because he is not at all sure he wants to leave his primary school, but if he managed to get a scholarship I think he might decide to go.

I was hoping the activity on the exam day might help motivate him, but we got the email saying it wouldn’t be happening because of Covid. Can I ask if anyone had more success at 11+ than 10+? Do they ever offer academic and sports scholarships? I am assuming that we will more have the issue of him getting stressed in the exam, and not passing, than standing a chance of a scholarship, but just thinking of best possible scenario Wink. Thanks!

@saturnrover

Yes we got an invite to interview.

What do they say to parents? I am more concerned about that part of the interview.

Based on prior experience I'm expecting some feedback on how my child did in the exam and then an opportunity for me to ask questions about the school etc
saturnrover · 20/12/2020 09:32

Thank you - so they ask us or our child what other schools we are interested in ?

Some of the schools asked that on the form - not sure if it was Whitgift or Trinity
EnolanotAlone · 20/12/2020 19:35

Thanks @AveEldon I doubt the sports assessments will go ahead as planned.

Wobbles21 · 20/12/2020 22:56

Trinity does ask about other schools.

Jumpalicious · 21/12/2020 21:59

Hi @AveEldon @saturnrover can I just double check: have you been invited for a Whitgift interview (as opposed to T)? LStill heard nothing from W either way. (We didn’t apply for a scholarship, if that has any impact.)

Jumpalicious · 21/12/2020 22:01

Ps pretty sure you are referring to W, sorry must read more closely ☕️

saturnrover · 22/12/2020 17:11

Hi Jumpalicious yes I can confirm that we have been invited to an online interview.

They also sent an link to their carols.

I am so impressed with how well organised and friendly Whitgift have been. Why don't you drop admissions an email to follow up?

Best wishes with it all.Smile

GiveMeFive · 23/12/2020 09:22

Hi @saturnrover @AveEldon
Just curious when your DS sat the ISEB? Are they at prep school or state school? Not heard either way but only sat it a couple of weeks ago. Have you had an invitation to the sports scholarship assessment on 9th?
Thank you.

AveEldon · 23/12/2020 10:16

@GiveMeFive we are not going for sports scholarship.

No idea how they order the interview calls
We do have another boy there already.
Sat ISEB 12 Dec.

Not sure if anyone else at our school has been contacted yet. Everyone is keeping quiet!

W said they would email mid-December and mid-January. Interviews Wednesday 6 until Wednesday 27 January 2021.

T said interviews Monday 11th until Friday 29th January 2021 and you will be either telephoned or emailed with these timings.

GiveMeFive · 23/12/2020 10:37

Thankyou for all that. Yes everyone is very quiet so feel a bit out on a limb. Just have to wait and see if we get an interview. The wait is always the worst part!
Good luck with your interview!

lookhappy · 23/12/2020 10:54

@GiveMe I expect they are contacting @Ave because she has a son already there , though of course her son will have got the needed grade in the ISEB. They have to start somewhere! They'll want to start with people in their community I imagine? FWIW, my child has been called to interview at some really tough schools - on the back of the ISEB - and we haven't yet heard from Whitgift. We have no connection with the school and we didn't apply for any scholarships.

lookhappy · 23/12/2020 10:55

Oh and my son took the ISEB back in November, so a long time ago!

GiveMeFive · 23/12/2020 11:37

Thank you all for your reassurances. Not your average year for the 11+ so even harder to second guess things. We have one interview so fingers crossed the rest will follow for all our DSs

EnolanotAlone · 23/12/2020 14:06

W has a trend of recruiting siblings first before widening the net to new families. This was evident in 10+ exams the last three years across friends with older siblings, and the threshold can be a little more discretionary if you read the prospectus criteria. With ISEB a long distant memory now to November, we have a longer haul yet to understand the outcomes. I believe it is a virtual holding pen until the admin teams call your number. Don’t loose hope yet @GiveMeFive

Timeframes are all going to be rejigged in the back of today’s announcement by Boris with expectations of more extensive and prolonged tier 4 status. Buckle in for a longer ride yet.

AveEldon · 23/12/2020 14:50

Just to add - our interview will be online not in person - not a surprise really

saturnrover · 23/12/2020 17:53

@giveme we are going for sports but did not receive an invite to sports but did receive an online interview invite.

Good luck and hope you can get in touch with Whitgift.

Mummy195 · 24/12/2020 00:43

Something about the waitlist in here for the T parents. Just thought I should post it in case anyone has not seen but may be interested.

Good luck to all your DC.

saturnrover · 26/12/2020 20:57

Super helpful Mummy thank you

2morasmum · 01/01/2021 17:44

Happy New Year to your All!
I can see that there have been a lot of changes in the last 48 hours for the 11+ tests happening next week.
Has anybody heard anything regarding Trinity's 10+ next week? I have not received any email but, as a worrier Confused , I want to be sure I did not miss any correspondence!

EnolanotAlone · 01/01/2021 18:19

@2morasmum I understand from last comms Trinity will advise from 11th .. still a little longer to wait yet ..

2morasmum · 01/01/2021 19:05

Thank you @EnolanotAlone, but the 10+ test is scheduled for the 9th at the school. I am assuming they might keep it as it is, as it is only around 200 boys to distribute around the school.

highfiver · 01/01/2021 19:16

I just wanted to pop on to say that I was so impressed with how Whitgift organised the tested. I am so impressed with how they have communicated through out.

Just so impressive.

Mayday1990 · 01/01/2021 19:29

Trinity have sent email saying entrance exams are allowed to happen - so 10 plus is still 9 jan at trinity
