Trinity/Whitgift 2021 entry

I have found the previous threads for Trinity/Whitgift entry really helpful, and I don’t think there is a 2021 yet. My son will be trying for 10+, and for a sports scholarship. He is bright, and pleased to be back training for his sports, but he gets really stressed in exam situations and works slowly. He is only trying Trinity this year because he is not at all sure he wants to leave his primary school, but if he managed to get a scholarship I think he might decide to go.

I was hoping the activity on the exam day might help motivate him, but we got the email saying it wouldn’t be happening because of Covid. Can I ask if anyone had more success at 11+ than 10+? Do they ever offer academic and sports scholarships? I am assuming that we will more have the issue of him getting stressed in the exam, and not passing, than standing a chance of a scholarship, but just thinking of best possible scenario Wink. Thanks!

If anyone on this thread is still active. Can I ask whether T or W hold separate interviews for scholarships at 11 plus or if it is a standard interview. Ie how can you tell if you are being considered for one?

Unicorns4ever · 11/01/2024 18:09

Hiya! I only know from a sports scholarship perspective - they have separate days for the students being considered there. As far as I remember there was some chat about the academic students being seen by different teachers for interviews but I don’t know for sure sorry!! Good luck!

Hi, T def has. My DS did the sport and the art scholarship. They are on different days and a whole day/half a day sorts of thing. As far as I know for academic there was no separate interview. I know whomever I talked to parents that during interview they all received academy questions as well. (My DS got maths question, but I his class mate got English one fore example) my DS is now Y9 at T. Good luck, and well done for getting to this stage, it’s already great to reach interview stage.

Does anyone have an idea of the number of academic scholarships given to boys at 11 plus at Whitgift. There were approx 100 in the scholarship day today. Seems like a lot for a handful of spaces

@Hantsmum123 I wish I cld give concrete numbers on academic scholarships. My son got one but we turned it down. They stressed it was very special, rare. It would have been 50% off fees.

FWIW At his current school, four boys got academic scholarships (he was one of them) and since they’re named scholarships, I don’t think they ever “over offer” these scholarships. Nominal amounts off at his current school tho (a few hundred quid)…

Walkingtheplank · 24/01/2024 11:41

In my son's year there are c. 15 purely academic scholars, rather than all-rounders which also includes an academic element.
I think there are two 50% scholars and one 30% and the rest are lower amounts but not sure on the amounts for those.

i can only say from a sports scholarship.. different days for interview and sports trial based on sport. W know who they want and will offer anywhere from 10-50% scholarships…
Good luck !
