Trinity/Whitgift 2021 entry

I have found the previous threads for Trinity/Whitgift entry really helpful, and I don’t think there is a 2021 yet. My son will be trying for 10+, and for a sports scholarship. He is bright, and pleased to be back training for his sports, but he gets really stressed in exam situations and works slowly. He is only trying Trinity this year because he is not at all sure he wants to leave his primary school, but if he managed to get a scholarship I think he might decide to go.

I was hoping the activity on the exam day might help motivate him, but we got the email saying it wouldn’t be happening because of Covid. Can I ask if anyone had more success at 11+ than 10+? Do they ever offer academic and sports scholarships? I am assuming that we will more have the issue of him getting stressed in the exam, and not passing, than standing a chance of a scholarship, but just thinking of best possible scenario Wink. Thanks!

@GrammarHopeful Just confirmed that his email did say academic scholarship, for 11+

GrammarHopeful · 21/01/2021 13:46

Thank you very much for confirming, @scubadiver123.

@EnolanotAlone, you are right, just some wishful thinking on my part :)

1980sMum · 21/01/2021 13:47

Does anyone know what independents generally do in terms of academic scholarships, e.g. do usually invite, e.g., the top 20% achievers (in the exam or ISEB) for a 'potential academic interview'?

Presumably they invite more than they offer so what is the % of boy that get the offer, is it to the top 5% or 10% boys (in terms of the results in the exam) who are offered an academic scholarship?

NamBo · 21/01/2021 13:47

I have just been told by the school that if the email does not state that the interview is for an academic scholarship then it is an interview for a place only.

scubadiver123 · 21/01/2021 13:47

@EnolanotAlone you are right ..they wouldn't .. I guess, it's just us parents reading too much between the lines.

Croydon46 · 21/01/2021 14:06

@1980sMum
Thank you. He has his academic scholarship for 10plus tomorrow. And next week is head master. This is for trinity.

And yes we got the email (1) with very well done. I totally feel for anyone still waiting. But I do hope that no emails would have gone out by now. So surly there is still w chance to be give. The opportunity of an interview.

Onvacation · 23/01/2021 09:25

Can I ask, has anyone NOT heard about 10+ interview dates yet? I know they are doing a lot today. We haven't but a friend of mine has said that all of the other boys tested with my son have heard. The email was don't contact us, so I don't want to bother them, but I'm now dealing with both impatient AND worry!!!!

@Onvacation
Just wondering did you provide to Trinity another email address?
For us, I got the “ done well enough to have a interview” email from T first, but 2days later T sent the interview date and time email to my husband’s email address in stead of mine. Check all the emails addresses you give to school, hope that will help. Good luck and hope you get a interview time soon.

LillyD · 23/01/2021 11:48

@ShirleyMum - our invite to interview was also sent to my husband and not me. So all my obsessive refreshing had been for naught!

ShirleyMum · 23/01/2021 11:59

@LillyD- yes, it did confuse me a bit. Luckily my husband checked his emails on Thursday, and DS had his interview this morning. Very short notice. Good luck with your DS interview.

EnolanotAlone · 23/01/2021 12:00

check all junk folders, spam and DH email address. T was the only school to email to DH solely, we are both on registration.

Onvacation · 23/01/2021 12:48

I have checked all my emails and the portal. DH said he has checked too. I guess I’ll need to wait to hear from the school Confused

Hi I have a friend still waiting to hear back from T re the 11+ ... has everyone heard back from T?

hopefulone1 · 24/01/2021 16:36

Please ignore my last comment

Yey22 · 24/01/2021 17:41

It may have changed but for my son he got offered an scholarship for both trinity and whitgift.

On the interview letter for trinity it was not stated that it was for an scholarship but for whitgift it was. For Trinity my son was interviewed at the start of interviews for whitgift he attended the scholarship days at the end so we heard late on so when you were called didn’t necessarily mean anything.

Re scholarship I think it ranges from 5% to 50%, the higher end tend to be multiple scholarship (academic with something else) in my experience.

Goodluck everyone x

What did people think of the W Sports session interview ?

Croydon46 · 24/01/2021 19:01

@EnolanotAlone
Is that regarding the11plus? Sports interview

scubadiver123 · 25/01/2021 12:40

@EnolanotAlone Could you detail whether it was 10 or11+.. also the format?
We haven't heard anything about a 10+ sports interview.

EnolanotAlone · 25/01/2021 12:51

This relates to 11+.

hopefulone1 · 25/01/2021 13:14

Enolanotalone - my ds applied for a sports scholarship but have not heard anything back which might mean it's not good news - what was the main sport your ds is doing ? As they might be doing it via sport ? Was it a group interview?

Croydon46 · 25/01/2021 15:27

We just got an email to say DS has not got the sports scholarship 10plus. Just posting for information

Onvacation · 25/01/2021 16:35

Sorry to hear that @Croydon46. Can I ask if anyone else has heard positive news about 10+ sport scholarship interviews? Thanks!

Cantthinkof0ne · 25/01/2021 17:53

Hi @Croydon46 . Sorry to hear your son didn’t get a sports scholarship. Was that with Trinity or Whitgift? Do you know when they issue offers for school places?

flipflop12345 · 25/01/2021 18:00

@Yey22 thank you for sharing, that's good to know. Out of interest was your son offered an academic scholarship or other scholarship (ie music/DT/art/sports), or a combination of both?

Yey22 · 25/01/2021 18:42

A combination at both schools.
