Trinity/Whitgift 2021 entry

I have found the previous threads for Trinity/Whitgift entry really helpful, and I don’t think there is a 2021 yet. My son will be trying for 10+, and for a sports scholarship. He is bright, and pleased to be back training for his sports, but he gets really stressed in exam situations and works slowly. He is only trying Trinity this year because he is not at all sure he wants to leave his primary school, but if he managed to get a scholarship I think he might decide to go.

I was hoping the activity on the exam day might help motivate him, but we got the email saying it wouldn’t be happening because of Covid. Can I ask if anyone had more success at 11+ than 10+? Do they ever offer academic and sports scholarships? I am assuming that we will more have the issue of him getting stressed in the exam, and not passing, than standing a chance of a scholarship, but just thinking of best possible scenario Wink. Thanks!

@Croydon46 Good news! And for the 1 or 2, I have no idea! I was wondering if there was a (1) email, and if there was a difference in what they said. Probably because I've spent too much time thinking about it, and was reading the conversations on here about wording for interviews. It must mean something, but who knows what :)

Oh got you. I didn’t read your comments properly-sorry. So Iv just read the email again. “Very well” is what it says. So yes I guess that explains the number. And he has also been invited for a academic scholarship. Which was not even on our radar. But obviously pleased at the opportunity.

Onvacation · 19/01/2021 16:08

@Croydon46 :) Mystery solved. Congratulations to your DS for being invited to an academic scholarship. We had a small outside hope that DS might have done well enough, but when we had exam traumas, I was really just hoping that he would pass. Now it is just being patient for the next phase!

We got an interview (2) letter. Now for the next nail biting stage...! 😀

hopefulone1 · 20/01/2021 08:25

Hi has anyone heard anything from whitgift re music scholarships? For the 11+ thanks

CraigMurray12 · 20/01/2021 08:34

Nothing yet for us

EnolanotAlone · 20/01/2021 09:22

Nothing here for us. Suspect priority order is determined on you interview grouping invite (11+a / b/ c / d etc).

Daydreamer85 · 20/01/2021 10:05

@enolanotaline, no news here, did not realise the a/b/c/d in the W11+ invite ...but looked now and my DS was b, any idea what they really mean ? Is it not the week u interview? W11+ Interviews are over 3 and half weeks.

notabirthday · 20/01/2021 11:22

We're still waiting for an interview date / time following getting through theT 11+ - anyone else still waiting?

Daydreamer85 · 20/01/2021 11:35

we are the same, still waiting for the phone call for T11+, from what I have worked out the (1) and (2) in the emails does not have any bearing.

LillyD · 20/01/2021 11:45

Still waiting!!

Mando30 · 20/01/2021 11:50

we're still waiting for email/phone call follow up to T11+ too... might have repetitive strain injury from refreshing my email!!

Daydreamer85 · 20/01/2021 18:08

can I please ask, has anyone been contacted by T11+ for an academic scholarship (not 10+) yet?

hopefulone1 · 21/01/2021 09:18

I have not heard of anyone getting a email with academic scholarships - but might have missed something

Onvacation · 21/01/2021 09:29

For Trinity, may be totally wrong, but it seems that the 10+ emails with a (1) are academic scholarship ones, and the (2) ones are not. This may not be correct, but I believe there was a mention of it in the (1) email, and I think a done 'very well' on the exam; but the (2) says done well enough to progress to interview phase (and mention of other scholarships). May be too much reading into numbers and it may not be that straight forward, but if it is correct, maybe the same rule applies for 11+.

In other news, the newspaper today seems to be suggesting that kids may be in lockdown until Easter (I know it is rumours flying around). So I guess there will be no hope of visiting the school before decisions need to be made. Crazy (but understandable). So not good at all this waiting!

Let’s compare the emails. Here is the one we received with (2) in the subject line.

Subject: [Trinity School] Trinity School Interview Notification (2)

Dear xxxx
We are very pleased to inform you that xxxx has done well enough in the entrance assessments to progress to our next stage of interview.
While we understand that you will be anxious to hear from us with regard to the timing and arrangements for your son's interview, you will appreciate that we have a very large number of applicants and we would therefore respectfully ask that you resist phoning us during this busy period. We assure you that we will contact you as soon as we can either by email or by telephone with a date and time for his Zoom interview together with all the relevant information you will require.
If you have applied for additional scholarship assessments, you will be be contacted via email in due course with these arrangements. Please be aware that the dates previously published for these assessments may be subject to change because they will also take place via Zoom and this will require some alteration to the proposed format and timetable.

We thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Yours sincerely

Mr David Price

Director of Admissions

I think for these two schools, the sooner you are invited to interview, the better you have done. Seems to be the pattern in previous years too. But that’s not to say that a late interview means no place!! More that an early interview could suggest a decent chance of a place.

@Onvacation argh! So then we come to the possibility that our kids are offered a place. How do we deal with the no-visit aspect. 7 years of potentially going somewhere unknown.

scubadiver123 · 21/01/2021 10:39

@Daydreamer85 I know a friend's son was interviewed for 11+ Trinity scholarship on Tuesday.

1980sMum · 21/01/2021 11:01

@Croydon46 Welld one to your DS re academic scholarship. Has he sat the academic scholarship interview already and were you told by the HM whether he was successful or will they write to confirm later?

hopefulone1 · 21/01/2021 11:04

Thanks for the update scubadiver123

I have been told that the academic scholarship interviews state it in the email

Onvacation · 21/01/2021 11:07

@Jumpalicious I know!!! I do know a number of people with kids there, and they are really pleased with it, so that is what has made me so keen. I haven't heard anything bad. I also thought that the person invigilating the children for their exam was lovely. She was patient and kind, which is clearly a very good start. Personally, I can tell you that the swimming pool facilities are excellent Grin. But really, an in-person visit would be lovely. I am also sad that the boys have missed out on the experiences of the exam day (which I have been told is really fun), the scholarship day (for sports - also sounded really fun), and the looking around. At some levels, I think I had made up my mind first, and would have been looking for things to support that. But it is the only school we have applied for this year, so I guess that makes it easier!

scubadiver123 · 21/01/2021 11:44

@hopefulone1 Yes, as I understand the email would state that DS has done 'very well' and that there would be an academic scholarship assessment- as also mentioned on this thread by someone else for 11+ at least.

GrammarHopeful · 21/01/2021 11:57

Hmm, would it be too much to ask you to check with your frined, @scubadiver123?

Our letter said that DS has done "very well" and this also what the interviewer said in response to my DS putting himself down (-'I am a bit slow.' - 'Not based on these results: you've done really well!'), but it didn't specifically said this was an academic scholarship interview.

He was also in the first batch of interviewees on last Saturday.

Confused
EnolanotAlone · 21/01/2021 13:08

On 11+ there is confusion with the 'done'well enough' and 'very well' in the same paragraph. I doubt the school would be purposely misleading for an academic scholarship.

scubadiver123 · 21/01/2021 13:44

@GrammarHopeful His email did say academic scholarship, just confirmed. To retierate that was 11+
