Trinity/Whitgift 2021 entry

I have found the previous threads for Trinity/Whitgift entry really helpful, and I don’t think there is a 2021 yet. My son will be trying for 10+, and for a sports scholarship. He is bright, and pleased to be back training for his sports, but he gets really stressed in exam situations and works slowly. He is only trying Trinity this year because he is not at all sure he wants to leave his primary school, but if he managed to get a scholarship I think he might decide to go.

I was hoping the activity on the exam day might help motivate him, but we got the email saying it wouldn’t be happening because of Covid. Can I ask if anyone had more success at 11+ than 10+? Do they ever offer academic and sports scholarships? I am assuming that we will more have the issue of him getting stressed in the exam, and not passing, than standing a chance of a scholarship, but just thinking of best possible scenario Wink. Thanks!

@Jumpalicious thank you . Yes our first preference is WB .Smile But considering the competition, not sure whether we get it .

Can I ask what type of questions Whitgift interviewer ask you and your DS. I have no idea how to prep my son for a 10min interview. Thank you

Croydon46 · 18/01/2021 00:03

@GinT sorry that question was for you. As I think you may be in the first batch of interviews for 10 plus.

GinT · 18/01/2021 07:59

@Croydon46 The interview was very informal. I think the interviewer was trying to find out what interests my DS has. My boy said he likes science, so he got a few questions about this subject. Also they talked about the book he is reading at the moment.
The interviewer was very friendly so that helped.
Goo luck with yours!

@Onvacation It must be really hard not being able to see the schools. If you have any questions about T, I can try and help. My DS (first year uni) started T in J Bugs and DD has just started in the 6th form, so a bit out of date on the lower school, but still very much involved with the school.

Croydon46 · 18/01/2021 09:10

@GinT thank you appreciate you getting back to me.

Onvacation · 18/01/2021 09:23

@Seeline thanks so much, that would be really helpful. I can’t help myself doing pointless obsessive refreshing today. And I bet we won’t hear today 🤦‍♀️ If we get anywhere, I will take you up on your offer 😊.

Hi all! I’am new to this group. Thank you all for sharing great tips. For my part, DS was interviewed on Saturday with W and was challenged with a picture on screen and was asked a lot a questions linked to history and building. We were expecting some standard questions about book, school, likes and dislikes etc.... my advice would be don’t over prepare you DS. In regards with questions to parents, I found them straight forward. Just be clear why you want to send your child to their school.

Has anyone registered their interest for a bursary ? We haven’t seen any form or email about this. I am just a little confused whether I missed something during the application process at the start. Am I right in thinking that we have to wait for details for applying for Bursary until after the confirmation of a place on 11th February ? Many thanks !

Mando30 · 18/01/2021 10:57

Hi @WallyMum21

Just wondering if your W interview was for 11+ or 10+?

Thanks!

SoupDragon · 18/01/2021 11:05

I think you need to apply for a bursary before then as the offer will include whether it is a full fee place, bursary or scholarship.

SoupDragon · 18/01/2021 11:06

I think you've missed the deadline

www.whitgift.co.uk/admissions/fee-assistance/bursaries

WallyMum21 · 18/01/2021 11:19

Sorry I forgot to specify, it was for 10+Entry at WB.

WallyMum21 · 18/01/2021 11:34

Thank you! Yes, we tried the same link but there wasn’t any form available. Each time we clicked on it, we were sent back either to the trust web or W page. We couldn’t registered our interest as we were unable to fill in any kind of form. Then the interviewer kindly reminded us as he didn’t want us to lose out on any bursary in case. We were then confused as we also emailed the Trust for a confirmation. We still awaiting to hear from them.

Did anyone fill in any sort of Bursary form online or email. Could I ask you for more clarification on this, if any, please ?

Snezhka13 · 18/01/2021 13:40

@WallyMum21 Yes. You'd be better of writing or calling the foundation for more information

SD1000 · 18/01/2021 14:57

Just spoke with Whitgift admissions and they are still sending out interview invites over the next few days, although it's slowing up, there is still hope, agonising!

Onvacation · 18/01/2021 15:07

Wondering if anyone has heard from Trinity about the 10+ yet? Guessing not, but oh, I hate waiting!

scubadiver123 · 18/01/2021 15:35

@Onvacation Haven't heard either.
They did say 'start of the next week' in their last email.. which makes it Mon/Tue as some people call Wed as 'mid week'!
The page refesh continues..

Onvacation · 18/01/2021 15:43

@scubadiver123 I had convinced myself they said Monday, and double checked yesterday, only to realise that they could have me obsessively refreshing for three days (although I'm with you, that the start of the week MUST mean Monday or Tuesday!)...or more (nooooooo). Fingers crossed!!!!!!

@SD1000 is it for 11 plus

SD1000 · 18/01/2021 16:28

Yes for 11+

Saved123 · 18/01/2021 16:39

@SD1000 . We are also in same boat . Haven’t heard from W yet . Can’t handle this anymore to be honest

Purple2021 · 19/01/2021 10:14

Got email for Trinity 10+ interview.
Good luck everyone!

Onvacation · 19/01/2021 10:21

Woohoo! Progressed we have progressed to the interview stage for Trinity 10+. We got a he has done well enough to progress to interview, and a (2) at the end of the email. So pleased. The exam didn't exactly go according to plan. But the email was a 'don't call us, we'll call you'. They did say that non-academic scholarship interviews would be subject to a different timetable, and would be conducted over zoom (with some modifications to the planned activities).

Fingers crossed for the other 10+ and 13+ applicants waiting to hear!

Some relief and now interviews.

Croydon46 · 19/01/2021 13:58

Same here we got an email to say we are through. We can relax for a bit now. @Onvacation We had a (1) at the end of the email. is there a difference?
