Calling all parents who’s ds sat the 11+ today... ds said maths was super hard and not the usual questions, he said he couldn’t finish the paper. Wondering if it was the case for the majority or he just had a bad day...

@mummy2aPrince09 did your son sit 11+ or 13+ ?

If you sit for 13+ you take the same exam at the same time as everyone else in Y6 to secure a place for Y9. You then have to sit a common entrance test in Y8 (all subjects, not just English, Maths and reasoning).

If you are following this pathway and you don't get through in Y6 you can sit a12+ exam the same time next year with a clean slate. At that stage if you get through you will still be joining the school in Y9 after taking (and passing) the common entrance exams in Y8.

I hope that makes sense? The various entry routes to schools are quite a confusing minefield.

@TaupeAndTeal but my son sat 11+ not 13 unfortunately :(

Hampton no longer requires CE for 13+. However about half of those that enter in third form will have sat CAS in year 8.

R272727 · 16/01/2020 13:34

Any other 11+ got a no today or yesterday?

Isitreallyworthit23 · 16/01/2020 16:42

Got a no from KGS 😢 gutted.

summerissooncoming · 16/01/2020 16:58

I am so sorry isitreallyworth, KGS have not offered an interview to most of us ... is your DS doing other schools ?

R272727 · 16/01/2020 17:02

Sorry to hear that we didn’t apply to KGS but it seems they are making it much harder this year. Any one got a no from Hampton or KCS today?

R272727 · 16/01/2020 17:12

anyone know how many they are interviewing at Hampton?

mummy2aPrince09 · 16/01/2020 17:56

@R272727 I think 300-400 are being interviewed for about 130 places the admissions lady told me on open day

@mummy2aprince09. Thanks!

mummy2aPrince09 · 16/01/2020 18:16

Does anyone know what happens if ds’s don’t get interviews from anywhere?

OP posts:
R272727 · 16/01/2020 18:26

Where else have you applied?

R272727 · 16/01/2020 18:27

Anyone knows how quickly
The nos will come after interviews

Ptarmigan68 · 16/01/2020 18:45

Last year yes came the Friday bf half term. I think the nos was the same day for the ones from our school....

Frostyskies1223 · 16/01/2020 19:16

@R272727 , once you reach iv stage the no's and yes's are all sent on the same day from Hampton/KGS/RGS & many other schools to the parents/dc. This means parents can make considered decisions over half term & sign up to the relevant "open days for offers" in late Feb. It's a very long process especially if you end up on a waiting list for your top choice.

R272727 · 16/01/2020 19:27

@Frostyskies1223 thanks what stressful time. So how does it work if you are on a waiting list but have to give deposit for your second choice??

Frostyskies1223 · 16/01/2020 19:30

@R272727 , it's not worth worrying about yet but the Registrars do all they can to make the situation less stressful. Schools like Hampton have so much movement when the Tiffin offers come out in early March, same time as offers have to be accepted.

R272727 · 16/01/2020 19:33

@Frostyskies1223 thanksSmile

Alwaysfrank · 16/01/2020 19:35

R272727 - I'm afraid you have to be prepared to lose your deposit in that situation, and potentially also a term's fees depending how late your preferred school offer comes through.

R272727 · 16/01/2020 20:01

@Alwaysfrank do they tend to put a lot of Boys on the wait list?

Alwaysfrank · 16/01/2020 21:10

I have no idea I'm afraid! As a general principle schools must look at how likely people are to reject a place if offered. So top of academic tree (SPS, Westminster) might expect a high proportion of acceptances so expect to take relatively few from a waiting list. Schools which might typically be more of a backup would need to be able to make a lot of waiting list offers if needs be. It must be a nightmare, and I do wonder if registrars speak to one another....

mummy2aPrince09 · 17/01/2020 11:05

Do most of your ds thought kings college school was easier than Hamptons? English and maths?

OP posts:
glittercats · 17/01/2020 11:57

Are people still waiting to hear a yes or no re- interviews from this school, Hampton? What a drawn out week. Fingers crossed for you.

Jbliwecd1 · 17/01/2020 12:28

Hi everyone!!! Slightly off topic: did your DSs sit Latymer Upper (LU) 11+? Any idea at all when they will let applicants know about interview decision? Do you know if it come via email or post? Thank you very much and good luck to all!!!

SW153kids · 17/01/2020 14:49

LU have said we’ll hear ‘by 24th’. Am not sure if letter or email, though!
