Hampton 11+

Calling all parents who’s ds sat the 11+ today... ds said maths was super hard and not the usual questions, he said he couldn’t finish the paper. Wondering if it was the case for the majority or he just had a bad day...

Congrats for 13+. Anyone heard from KGS ? We are over disappointment with Hampton already 😜

Some Hampton Prep boys know in Y5 that they've got a place but sit the 11+ for Tiffins to help get a scholarship.

I can imagine that being at the Prep helps, although the Prep isn't selective (yet, I heard it will be soon).

Do you think it's harder to get into Tiffins or Hampton?

DS did both Tiffins and Hampton this year and he found Hampton harder.

Of course if the 11+ is easier but far more boys sit it, then getting a place at Tiffins could still be harder than Hampton.

I think it's easier to get into Guildford & Sutton, definitely. Just not sure between T & H.

Harder to do ... the Hampton paper he couldn't finish, panicked massively and looked shocked after the exam.

Anyone who got into Hampton 13+ pls let me know what preparation they did ? We might try later as is so near to where we live

DS went through this 2 years ago, feel for all of you.
Schools were told in batches. 6 boys from his primary school sat Hampton RGS & Tiffin (& a mix of other schools)
We all heard from Hampton within minutes of each other. 3 boys got interviews 2 were offered places.
All 6 boys were offered places at RGS and 2 got in to tiffin.
DS decided on Hampton. Very pleased with the school & DS is happy & doing well.

Just received email from KGS!

We got no from KGS too...DS is consistently 90% plus in pass papers for maths and English was 70-75%, seems like you need to be 90+ in both.

So difficult for 10yr olds who do not succeed.

We got a no too, same as you AMi01. It's difficult for DS who are 10 yrs and some of us are late summer born. So disappointing for us

He said it went ok, but hard for kids to judge. There was no surprise questions so in line with mocks etc, so expecting that the exam would have been same. Was hoping his maths would have pushed him, but seems like we have too many brighter children to compete with.

Just feels so hard.

Friend's DS got no from Hampton and KCS, but it was a yes from SPS.

Not this year, I should add.

Feel for you. Hampton is notoriously hard and kgs is tricky because it's co Ed and getting more selective every year. Will keep fingers crossed for you for the others

Sorry to hear this Ami and summer. What are your other options?

Other options are St George's but that is similar type of group sitting and then Radnor house which is smaller but have only 40 places co-ed.

Ami did your ds sit Epsom or reeds? Both excellent schools. My ds is gutted after more than half of his friends got into Hampton, it’s a horrible system. Just wondering if we have still chances to apply to other schools mid year if space becomes available or would it be just a case of calling each school to find out.

@mummy2aprince09 , as you are in a Prep school you can ask your head's advice re hampton 12+ sitting but it's even more competitive than 11plus as hardly any spaces & mainly for 13+ entry age. Some of those who are interviewed for 11+ in next 10 days will get waiting list or rejected in Feb so there is still a way to go for your ds's classmates.

@Frostyskies1223 I had the impression if you didn’t get through 11+ you cannot sit 12+ next year?
