I've read through lots of chat re 2019 but can't see a 2020 10/11+ 2020 thread. How are your DS's getting on?

OP posts:
Delices · 11/01/2020 19:10

Hopeful mum is your ds going for football scholarship?

UntamedShrew · 11/01/2020 19:21

We’ve been invited for the academic scholarship day- am so thrilled! Silly question but do you know if this means he will definitely get a place, even if he doesn’t then get the scholarship..? Wouldn’t want to build it up too much to him if not. This is all so confusing...

Delices · 11/01/2020 19:22

No phone call I suppose no news on a Sunday ?

UntamedShrew · 11/01/2020 19:28

We had an email. I wouldn’t read too much into it as some friends have had a yes and some a no, all by email today. Hope that helps, it is so horrible waiting.

Mum232 · 11/01/2020 19:30

Thank you Yey22, that’s so helpful and reassuring. X

Mum232 · 11/01/2020 19:34

Delices, I spoke to head of admissions on the day of exam at pick up time and he said that they will be contacting people in alphabetical order. We heard today and as our surname begins with B that seems about right.

Delices · 11/01/2020 19:49

Thanks so much mum232 we are W there’s still some hope !!

PopGoesTheWeaz · 11/01/2020 20:01

We got an email from W today too, for academic scholarship assessment day. I had the same questions as UntamedShrew. I want to make the jump and assume this means DS will get an offer (unless he does something horrible on the assessment day) but also don't want to get hopes up. I think there may be quite a few applicants at the assessment day so trying not to get hopes up for a scholarship offer.

Still waiting on trinity...

Anno7 · 11/01/2020 20:29

Hi! Has anyone who is 10+ heard do any of you know? Guessing that’ll be alphabetical too then? So they are sending no emails as well as yes? Scary!!

turboturtle · 11/01/2020 20:39

I'm interested to know if anyone here has a DS at both schools, and what is your opinion of how both schools measure up to each other in respect to academic drive, behaviour polices, attitude towards sport, music, etc.
Obviously both are good schools, but are also different, as are our children.
I know of a family who really preferred T over W for their son, but W gave more of scholarship discount, so that was where their DS ended up.
To those who have applied to both, if you take money out of the equation, what would be your deciding factor in choosing one over the other?

Hopefulmum72 · 11/01/2020 21:18

Delices, yes, football and rugby. More of a rugby player though... Have not had the call for the scholarship assessment though...

Good luck to you! Surely they cannot call everyone on one day!

MissVal12 · 11/01/2020 21:31

Anno7, my DS sat for 10+ for both W and T and haven’t heard back. He thought the exams went well, can’t trust his judgement 100%😜! All the best to you all. It’s so daunting..

PopGoesTheWeaz · 11/01/2020 21:32

I should add we have an early alphabet surname and DC said that's why we got a call so early in the game

Anno7 · 11/01/2020 21:42

Thank you all! So stressful! There can’t be any comm’s on Sunday so we just have to try and zone out until Monday! Good luck

Hopefulmum72 · 11/01/2020 21:47

Anno7 Trinity have called me in the past on a Sunday (re half term camps) so it is possible.... Keep your phone close and your hope even closer. 😊

Delices · 11/01/2020 23:45

Thanks everyone and good luck

Delices · 12/01/2020 11:28

Does anyone know if your DS needs be in an academy for football scholarship? The waiting is gruelling

Hopefulmum72 · 12/01/2020 19:06

Good luck tommorow everyone! Here we go again hanging on to the phone!

JustJuice187 · 12/01/2020 20:16

Sorry re 10plus I don't think you'll hear back on the exam day. You'll be doing well to get a call next week as the schools have a lot of calls to get through - not a bad or a good sign either way - we didn't get called for ages at T and he got offered a place. We are just planning on relaxing for a bit now. Early days

JustJuice187 · 12/01/2020 20:17

Sorry - 'he' meaning DS1

piupiu · 13/01/2020 09:15

My DS sat 10+ on Saturday. His feedback was that he thought the English was easy, the maths was harder (it had algebra which he's not been taught yet at his school) and the VR was very long and he nowhere near finished it...especially as he decided to leave the go to the toilet half way through 🤦‍♀️
We don't have a tutor and hadn't done much practice for it as only decided to go for 10+ at the last minute so I'm not getting my hopes up

Hopefulmum72 · 13/01/2020 09:28

Has anyone heard from Trinity on Saturday? Just wondering if Trinity are still calling or should I lose my hopes on it....

Thanks!

PopGoesTheWeaz · 13/01/2020 09:51

We haven't heard from T yet either but think it's early to give up hope. They are supposed to post the 'no thank you' notices today so if we haven't heard from them by Wednesday then I think try that means we are likely just at the bottom of a long list of interviews to be arranged.

Hopefulmum72 · 13/01/2020 10:10

Oh that is good to know @PopGoesTheWeaz! I was not aware they were posting the Nos today....

Fingers crossed for a call and nothing on the mail then!

Good luck!

Delices · 13/01/2020 12:54

No news still from whitgift any body else heard ?
