I've read through lots of chat re 2019 but can't see a 2020 10/11+ 2020 thread. How are your DS's getting on?

OP posts:

I am a great believer in gut feeling.

Have you written out a list of pros and cons?
When you say he isn't interested in music, has he had much experience of it?
Which school does he prefer?

SoupDragon · 06/03/2020 14:49

I genuinely don't believe there is a "wrong" choice when choosing between W & T.

Jige · 06/03/2020 15:15

Jeezimacasalinga difficult decision but totally agree with Soupdragon that there isn’t much difference between W & T. They are both really good schools, they will challenge your DS. I wound just go on your gut feeling, but sit down with your DS and ask him which school he prefers and why, after all it is your DS who will be studying there and has to be comfortable.
Both schools are sporty and musical, and if you really can’t decide between them I would always go for the nearest to where you live.

Good luck to you and your DS.

Sammy4321 · 07/03/2020 07:37

Hi I agree it’s a hard decision. We finally made the decision to go for T at 10+. Feel terrible to turn down W but we weighed up the options and mainly DS felt T was more friendly and his gut feel was that he would enjoy it more there. It’s personal choice. I personally felt there was a big difference between the schools but I think a lot of that is ‘superficial’ - W has a nicer look and came across more sporty, T is less physically attractive but actually the sports, drama, music are all excellent, and academics at both are great. T is a slightly longer/ harder commute for us but we wanted to go where DS felt happy.

Good luck!

jasmine372 · 07/03/2020 08:45

@Sammy4321
We have that issue for T as well . Slightly longer and harder commute each day but it’s not the appearance of the school but what happens inside that matter !
We are 10 plus too so no doubt our boys will cross each other’s paths at some point !

Yey22 · 07/03/2020 09:16

Just on the sport, W has a wonderful sporting reputation and rightly so but so does Trinity and in many sports in certain years is stronger. I have been so impressed with the sport at Trinity, you just don’t realise until your start. If you child is going to succeed in sport you will do at either school. Goodluck with all your choices, I’m sure you won’t go wrong with either school x

Freeasabird99 · 07/03/2020 09:31

@tundi also interested in a park meet.. if we ever get any sunshine 🌞 🙏

Sammy4321 · 07/03/2020 09:44

@tundi yes interested in a meet up.

For Trinity 10+ Actually I had started to get some numbers of people starting so we can do a WhatsApp group?

If anyone wants to send me a private message I will add them. Or if you’re not comfortable sharing then I will send you my number.

Cheers!

tundi · 07/03/2020 09:48

Thank you @Eccamoldcan and @ freeasabird99 , yes we need sunshine and a bit of wormer weather first;-) @Sammy4321 it is a great idea! Easier to communicate :-) I'll try to figure out how to PM you with my number (sorry a newbie on this Mumsnet...;-)

nogoingbacktothefuture · 07/03/2020 10:46

10 + at Trinity accepted here 😊

Jeezimacasalinga · 07/03/2020 12:04

Thanks all, lovely common sense advice! When my DS came back from school, he'd decided on Trinity, so that's what we've gone for! As people have said, they're both lovely schools, and I'm sure he would have loved Whitgift too. Good luck to all the boys - can't quite believe we are finally at the end of the process! And I have a nice break before I do it all again with DC3 ..... Wink

Mummy195 · 07/03/2020 19:24

We have let go of a 10+ space for T.

Good luck to those on the waitlist.

Happiness14 · 08/03/2020 09:20

How many 11+ mums on here??? Seems awfully quiet...no offence intended 10+ mums Smile

Jeezimacasalinga · 08/03/2020 09:58

Yup my ds did the 11+ - would be good to hear from the other mums what they finally decided!

Happiness14 · 08/03/2020 14:22

@Jeezimacasalinga yey nice 2 know I'm not alone lol, let's find other mums and arrange a meet up, PM me and will organise something hopefully asa the weather picks up

chalkyc2 · 09/03/2020 08:32

Unfortunately the 11+ T WL didn't reach us so we have accepted elsewhere. Shame but luckily we had good other option we are all happy with. Good luck Trinity boys!

Happiness14 · 09/03/2020 10:27

@chalkyc2 good luck! I think overall everything works out 4 the best, my first plan was Grammer schools and my son decided to fail the first test lol I was shocked but he kept saying he would rather go to riddlesdown it was only when he saw trinity that it became an option and the only choice we had so I think it was meant 2 be. Which school did u end up choosing??

chalkyc2 · 09/03/2020 10:47

It really does work out for the best - DS is off to Eltham College which is what we always wanted and we got a little sidetracked with Trinity. Closer to us and easier journey and great school so all happy. Grammar offer too so loads of choice in the end!

RoseyHill · 22/03/2020 10:08

@johnsmith75023
My son has dyslexia and was successful in his application to Whitgift. They have a very extensive and impressive SEN team. Notify them in advance of your application and speak to head of admissions. They are very supportive indeed.

jasmine372 · 25/03/2020 09:25

Very quiet on here !
10plus Trinity : has everyone received the letter w the forms attached ?

Hope everyone is ok and coping as best they can !

tundi · 25/03/2020 10:01

Hi Jasmine, we have created a Trinity 10+ what's up group, if you'd like to join, just pm your number;-) Smile

RoseyHill · 31/03/2020 14:09

Has anyone heard if any of the South London private schools are considering reducing fees following their compulsory closure. I’ve heard Kings Wimbledon have done so. I’d be very interested to hear if anyone knows of any others?

champagneandfromage50 · 31/03/2020 20:25

All schools are doing different things, my youngest school are not planning any reductions, my DD school has reduced by a tiny amount which covers school dinners and my DS at W I havent heard about there plans but not expecting anything major

BrassyLocks · 24/06/2020 17:32

Coming to this thread late, but there was another thread where parents recommended a tutor for Whitgift prep. It was a young man, can't recall his name, completed his teaching diploma in Oxford I think. If anyone knows who I'm talking about, I'd love to have a link to his webpage. Or any other tutors you can personally recommend, rather than an agency. Thanks a lot.

BrassyLocks · 27/06/2020 22:41

Nm, found him.
