I've read through lots of chat re 2019 but can't see a 2020 10/11+ 2020 thread. How are your DS's getting on?

OP posts:

Anyone else doing the T 10 plus today ?
Think I was more nervous than my son . And so many confident looking boys there :( . Hard to judge how many but felt like hundreds !!
Nerves are definitely playing up now .... let alone the waiting game !

Nonie0509 · 11/01/2020 09:54

Hello. My son isn't doing the 10+ today but is there helping out. He did he test last year and I can totally understand what you are going through. He loves being a JBUG so much and has really thrived at the school. He couldn't wait to help out today and show off his school. Good luck and try not to worry. Easier said than done I know! X

Adaryn · 11/01/2020 11:33

My son is doing the 10+ today... I'm so nervous, hate not being able to do anything! Seemed very busy this morning. The next few days/weeks are going to drag by!

Brrrr10 · 11/01/2020 11:43

Yep 10+ here today too. A very tense day for us wondering how they are getting on. Yes lots and lots of confidence boys being dropped off. I wonder how many!

Brrrr10 · 11/01/2020 11:43

*confident

Adaryn · 11/01/2020 11:55

We were told around 200 for Whitgift, so assuming it's a similar number today.

Anno7 · 11/01/2020 12:01

Oh really? @Adaryn, at 10+? Looked like so many boys there I thought it was more like 300! Did the school say that? Thank you

Adaryn · 11/01/2020 12:16

Yeah, my husband got talking to one of the teachers at the end and he said they were expecting around 200, then offer 40-60 places.

Anno7 · 11/01/2020 12:19

Thank you

jasmine372 · 11/01/2020 12:21

200 is better odds than 300!
Although still a 1:4 to 1:5 chance ! ConfusedShock

SoupDragon · 11/01/2020 12:24

This makes me feel all wistful (whilst also being glad I never have to do it again!) My last DS left Trinity in the summer to head off to Uni. He had a great time at school (and apparently even managed to learn stuff despite all visible evidence to the contrary) :)

Anno7 · 11/01/2020 12:25

I know- terrifying! I guess they might offer more because they know lots are taking other schools as well?! Let’s hope so!

Brrrr10 · 11/01/2020 12:29

Best of luck to all the boys. I was trying to be dry January but no chance this week!Wink

Seeline · 11/01/2020 12:38

@SoupDragon hello! It's our last year with DS, although have an offer for 6th form in September 😉

SoupDragon · 11/01/2020 12:43

I don't think DD will be moving there for 6th form when her time comes... Unless they offer favourable criteria for siblings! 😂

chalkyc2 · 11/01/2020 12:50

Good luck all. So do we think they must have marked all the T 11plus boys now?? And we shouldn't be too despondent if we haven't heard anything yet?? 😬😬

DS has one more exam on Monday then we're all done - waiting hopefully for interviews and possible sports assessments. Fingers crossed and all that.

Hopefulmum72 · 11/01/2020 13:34

Whitgift has started calling I have been told.... Keep your phone next to you!

SoupDragon · 11/01/2020 13:37

So do we think they must have marked all the T 11plus boys now?

From memory, yes they probably have.

And we shouldn't be too despondent if we haven't heard anything yet??

Absolutely not! It takes ages to arrange all the interviews, especially with coordinating the non-academic scholarships alongside it all. There is no significance to how quickly you're offered an interview either.

Jeezimacasalinga · 11/01/2020 13:48

Yes, had a call from Whitgift an hour ago, interview on Wednesday! My DS is out at a football match and I'm absolutely desperate to tell him!

Good luck to everybody and their boys

Adaryn · 11/01/2020 14:30

Around 170 for T 10+ today.

Well done to those already hearing about interviews!

Hopefulmum72 · 11/01/2020 14:49

We got a call too from W! So pleased!

Now a bit nervous about the parents interview.... It's been a while since I had an interview... Any advice ?

And well done everyone else!

SoupDragon · 11/01/2020 15:42

Relax :)

They aren't really interviewing you, it's all about your son. That said, it's probably best not to get into a heated discussion about education where you disagree with the interviewer... 😂

There were the usual "why this school" type questions so have an answer to those,

Brrrr10 · 11/01/2020 16:50

Eeek has any 10+ W had a call yet?

Mum232 · 11/01/2020 17:35

Hi everyone. I just received an email from W and my son was invited for academic scholarship assessment. We’re so thrilled but my son is a bit worried. Please could you give any advice as what to expect?
Thank you

Yey22 · 11/01/2020 17:52

Mum232 great news, , if it’s like last year, they spend a day being observed in different lessons in small groups, the lessons are engaging and look at things that can’t really be prepped for like critical thinking. You join them at the start of the day for refreshments and address by the head or second master then come back at the end of the day and have your meeting with the head/second master whilst your son is still in lessons. My son had a great day x
