I've read through lots of chat re 2019 but can't see a 2020 10/11+ 2020 thread. How are your DS's getting on?

It is all really helpful for first-timers like me, thanks to those of you who have experience and are sharing it!

gingershotting · 09/01/2020 16:20

Agree, so helpful. 🙏

Enpot2007 · 09/01/2020 16:34

Hope the exams went well for your boys. Some people receive interviews quickly and others don’t. Try not to stress out if you don’t hear immediately or hear others are getting interviews and you’re not. It’s really hard and you will be checking your emails every second. Fingers crossed though. If anyone has interview queries/questions don’t hesitate to ask.

Oh and as long as one parent turns up for the interview it’s fine - certainly for Whitgift. They understand not everyone parent is available.

Vegan4Fun · 09/01/2020 17:43

ginger, I heard comprehension was Charles Dickens at W

Pickledonion74 · 09/01/2020 18:08

Last year my son got an interview at T for 11+ and I had to meet the HM by myself as my husband was away. No need to stress over it if only one of you can go. It made absolutely no difference.

PopGoesTheWeaz · 09/01/2020 18:39

One of us will have to be available and possibly both would be, but I know they don't get much notice so am worried about juggling things around with work and clients last minute. Hopefully it's all about DC and we aren't part of the selection process but equally, I want them to know that we're involved and care and put our best food forward and all that.

Even though I'm in my 40's I still feel about 13 so getting nervous at the idea of having to pretend to be a grown up and talking to the head and not feeling like I'm in trouble!

Pickledonion74 · 09/01/2020 18:42

Pop, I felt exactly the same! I got a call on the Tuesday or Wednesday morning for an interview on the Friday morning last year

Enpot2007 · 09/01/2020 19:22

@PopGoesTheWeaz it’s really about the child. You can ask how your child did in the exam and any burning questions you have. It’s really nothing scary. I can say that now. But when you’re child is being taken to see a Head or teacher for a quick interview I was a wreck, can’t even lie. But they make the process easy on the child and adult Grin thankfully. Try not to worry. Juggling everything is a pain and if you get to do scholarships too you might be at the school at least 4 times (test, interview and two rounds of sports tests). Repeat that if you are successful in other schools. Best of luck to you all.

Good luck to all of those whose DS's sat this week.

Went through this a few years ago and the chat was very helpful and supportive.
We knew a family who had a DS at W in the upper school, and he reported that papers were being marked almost immediately after the exam.
I think both schools stated in the letters given out on the day of the exam, which groups (successful or unsuccessful) would hear and in which timeframe. Was this the same this year?
Dependent on how many boys sat the exam, they may not stick to this schedule.
There were conversations I had with other mums where their DS's said they saw the same child in each school they sat an exam - especially if they were split into groups based on the first letter of their surname.
W would ask the boys how many of them were also going to sit the T exam.
Don't worry about the interview. Just getting one is always a good sign.
If an academic scholarship is the aim, then your DS being interviewed by the head may be an indication, but I cannot categorically say that this is the case.
Just remember - families do apply for multiple schools and T & W know this. They know that some families use W & T as backups to the Surrey grammars.
Word of advice - Just keep the volume up on your phones, as both schools may call late in the evening or even on a Saturday to invite you for an interview - sometimes at short notice.
Again - Good Luck to all.

Looking at this term's school diary for T, it says interviews start on Monday, so keep checking phones and emails! They run through to 29/1. There are dates for scholarship tests/interviews if anyone is interested.

Good luck!

Hopefulmum72 · 10/01/2020 09:28

This wait is killing me....

Has anyone applied for Scholarships? I heard that if you have applied for scholarships you should know by next Monday if they have done enough on the exam day or not. Is that correct?

Phone... please ring! :)

Pickledonion74 · 10/01/2020 09:46

Good luck everyone. I remember how this felt last year and I have it to look forward to next year. Hope your phones ring!

jasmine372 · 10/01/2020 10:42

I’ve heard that if you applied for other cocurricular scholarships you may have to wait longer as they sometimes try to get both your interview and sports / music :/ drama assessment on the same day . So may mean waiting longer .....

PopGoesTheWeaz · 10/01/2020 10:42

I think T said in the sheet of paper they handed out on exam day that if you applied for a sports scholarship and hadn't heard by the 20th you should follow up with them - but worth checking the sheet again.

Received an exciting phone call from DC -- DS has an interview! Fingers crossed for everyone else to hear from T&W and other schools soon and with good news

rakushka04 · 10/01/2020 10:58

There are still exams next week (alternative day for clashes) at least at T I know about. So they might be waiting for this lot to finish as well.

Hopefulmum72 · 10/01/2020 11:37

Well done to your DS on getting through to the interview PopGoesTheWheaz! Good luck!

champagneandfromage50 · 10/01/2020 12:22

PopGoesTheWeaz well done! DC is really competitive and standards expected in the exam are very high, your DS must have done really well!

jasmine372 · 10/01/2020 12:23

There has been some movement with Trinity , a few people I know have had calls about interviews next week .

Hopefulmum72 · 10/01/2020 12:38

Thanks for letting us know jasmine372.

Fingers crossed we all get that phone ringing now! :)

Birdey77 · 10/01/2020 13:14

So I got the phone call this morning from Trinity for an interview Monday morning. Didn’t give me any other details. As they offered me Monday morning I assume they have only just started calling!

PopGoesTheWeaz · 10/01/2020 13:55

I foresee myself wasting a lot of time over the next week or two. I keep compulsively checking my phone to make sure it's still working Blush

PopGoesTheWeaz · 10/01/2020 13:56

and Well done Birdey!

Hopefulmum72 · 10/01/2020 14:22

yes... same here.... I know they take days to call everyone.... but still... losing the hope....

Well done Birdey's DS!

JustJuice187 · 10/01/2020 14:50

Good luck to all those sitting the 10plus tomorrow.
Best advice would be to take public transport if you're worried about traffic!
Also drop off is always pretty smooth and we'll organised!

Yey22 · 10/01/2020 14:54

It’s early days for many it was up to a couple of weeks before they heard. Trinity last year sent our decline letters quite soon after the exam.

Whitgift did not do this until weeks after.

Hold your nerve, last year it worked out for everyone I know, either getting their first or second choice school and all the boys I know are happy at the school they went too x
