Maths and history on thurs
Last eng lang on Friday

Bimkom · 04/06/2019 19:25

Geography tomorrow (pm), then maths on Thurs and second English lang and biology on Friday (to finish the week with a bang (not))

KittyMcKitty · 04/06/2019 19:40

Geography tomorrow afternoon, History (Migration 790-present and Elizabeth) and maths on Thursday and English and Biology on Friday- it’s a long slog!

bizzey the 2nd Eng Lang paper is the comparisons of texts (one modern one 19th century) and persuasive writing.

Those doing Edexcel Geography tomorrow is anyone doing spec B (it’s the one with the purple cow on the revision guide) - I’m starting to think we may be the only school doing it!

Iambuffy · 04/06/2019 19:58

Geography b tomorrow - another a level choice so he will be nervous I think

KittyMcKitty · 04/06/2019 20:07

Yeah Buffy another Geography B-er! Ds wants to do it for A level also. Fingers crossed 🤞 for everyone

Iambuffy · 04/06/2019 20:19

🤞

jamimmi · 04/06/2019 21:05

Yep edxcl geog B here too. Also A level choice as is History. It's going to be a long few days....

123confused · 04/06/2019 21:06

I'm sure this has come up many times before ...but....why, oh why is there not one (govt) exam body for the whole country = one subject = same books/topics.................???

Apparently it’s a legacy from when schools issued their own leaving certificate (something I didn’t know)

www.quora.com/Why-does-the-UK-have-a-number-of-different-exam-boards-for-GCSE-A-level-Why-do-we-not-all-do-the-same

onaroll · 04/06/2019 21:42

I would love it if there was one central exam board - a level playing field for all our children.
As with everything its big business sadly. IGCSE's still have coursework counting towards the final grade. Unlike the new gcse's where its all about the final exam. They are more expensive so generally state schools can't afford them.

Iambuffy · 04/06/2019 22:05

Theres gold in them thar exam boards hills!

raspberryrippleicecream · 05/06/2019 00:05

Ds2 was happy with his exams, apparently the unheard listening in Edexcel music was a 'banging' piece of music.

AQA Geography for us tomorrow,

TabbyStar · 05/06/2019 06:14

Not all IGCSEs have coursework, that's part of the point of them, they are taken by international and home ed students where coursework can't be marked or moderated. I don't know what private schools do though.

Geography today, maths tomorrow. Both A level choices hopefully. DS thinks this Geog paper will be so much harder as he found paper 1 relatively easy. We go again!

Luciaia · 05/06/2019 07:07

A bit late but bimkom dd found your ds’ idea great- says she wished she came up with the idea to do it from a different pov

Iambuffy · 05/06/2019 07:09

Sadly, imagination is not ds1s strong point :(

We are just hoping for a 5 in eng lang tbh!

myrtleWilson · 05/06/2019 07:12

Clash day for DD - Spanish and Classics. Heading into the heavy part of this week - two exams on each day now 😱

behindlocknumbernine · 05/06/2019 07:37

glee - hurrah for sleep, long may it continue!!
sprout - I told dd about your dd's apple perspective, her reply:" That's actually brilliant, my teacher said the examiners would genuinely like that"

Dd also wrote about the market place, but after telling me what she wrote I feel it was a little bit too abstract... It does not become clear she is writing about a market until half way through...

Day off today, then maths, history, english and biology back to back.

Roll on the weekend!!

Luciaia · 05/06/2019 07:46

Tomorrow and Friday will be tough day- think will have to just stay out of her way until the weekend with lots of history and then biology cramming going to be taking place (hasn’t picked up a biology book since the last paper Confused)

Iambuffy · 05/06/2019 07:48

Yeah.

Tomorrow wont be fun...history and maths 😩

KittyMcKitty · 05/06/2019 08:02

Yes tomorrow is a bit of endurance test.

Ds announced yesterday that he prefers school like this rather than normal lessons- it transpired hat he meant he preferred going in for a couple of hours a day to the full school day. Am very impressed with all the dc with a passion for various subjects. Ds has no passion for anything at school - Rap music and all its genres is his only passion.

Michaelahpurple · 05/06/2019 08:03

Regarding IGCSEs private schools I know don't do the coursework and never have. It was to avoid it that they moved to IGCSEs during the previous gcse reform - with IGCSEs the coursework is optional whereas the old GCSEs made it compulsory. IGCSEs were more like the old old system.

CarrieErbag · 05/06/2019 08:11

IGCSE don't have coursework as far as I'm aware, we are home edders and have to do IGCSEs as it's impossible to get coursework assessed as a private candidate.
