Oh, I love Dickens!
Ds did a practise question on David Copperfield the other day.
He wont have enjoyed that :(

onaroll · 04/06/2019 14:56

Dd sat WJEC English this morning said it was ‘fine ‘. Checked with me regarding the legalities of protesting against / obstructing a tree being cut down. Relieved she got it ‘right’ or her whole story would of been ruined .
Nothing tomorrow but Maths (calculator) EDEXL am & history (also EDEXL )pm on Thursday.
I’m getting concerned, I asked her how she’s feeling about the maths ‘ I guess there’s going to be a lot of numbers’ was her reply.
On her history , she gave her summation. Queen Elizabeth apparently basically pi**ed everyone off. Europe because she wasn't Catholic, everyone because she wouldn't marry and hand her power over to her King, instead held on to her girl power.
Used and then killed off her cousin - she did give me more examples too. On superpowers/ cold war she likens USA & Russia to a couple of cats that square up to each other, make a lot of noise, threaten each other to a fight but actually don't want to fight each other and back away at the last minute without actual fur flying. Over and over again over years and years.
I hope there are lots of figures & facts in her head to back up her opinion. 😱.

KittyMcKitty · 04/06/2019 15:03

Iambuffy I think it was from Dombey & Sons (I only looked at it v briefly).

Iambuffy · 04/06/2019 15:05

kitty
Oh...cheery then? 🤣

KittyMcKitty · 04/06/2019 15:07

It was a laugh a minute especially with the creative writing being about loss!!

Iambuffy · 04/06/2019 15:37

Oh gawd

DeRigueurMortis · 04/06/2019 15:57

So he thinks he's hopefully done enough to pass English but he says it wasn't great.

Thinks he messed up the structure question.

Roll on Electronics tomorrow.

Iambuffy · 04/06/2019 16:13

DS was worried about structure.

He's at after school geography revision class.

grauduroi · 04/06/2019 16:24

Fingers crossed for English...he enjoyed it so I shall leave it at that. He - thankfully- did abandonment but from the view of spirituality in a time of crisis Shock i have NO idea where that gem of an idea came from!

Enjoyed music too but was disappointed that Defying Gravity wasn't in the paper and Afro Celt Sound System was.

Roll on tomorrow for Geography.

pointythings · 04/06/2019 16:32

DD says it went incredibly well, she really enjoyed it and the creative writing piece was one of the best things she's written.

KittyMcKitty · 04/06/2019 16:35

Ds seems to have gone against the grain somewhat- he wrote the descriptive piece about the marketplace. He’s v happy with what he wrote but thinks he maybe should have made one more point on the 20 mark question.

Anyone else with a child doing Edexcel B in Geography tomorrow?

pikapikachu · 04/06/2019 16:38

Not heard from dd but she did AQA and her creative writing is always dark so I suspect that she chose the abandonment question.

marmiteloversunite · 04/06/2019 16:39

DD struggles with English. She wrote about the market place and managed to include prostitution and priests! Not sure what the examiner will make of that! Apparently writing about a piece of fruit that is in the picture is too boring!Confused

Iambuffy · 04/06/2019 16:50

Ds says "could have been better, could have been worse" 🙄

He wrote about being lost in the woods.

kitty ds is going edexcel geography 2 tomorrow.

Iambuffy · 04/06/2019 16:52

Ds struggles with English too.
He does better in lit with sources to refer to.

triggers34 · 04/06/2019 17:02

Found the new thread Smile

We've had a lovely week off and now 1st day of exams for dd aqa English went ok although she hasn't told me what she wrote about yet.

She thinks Music went very well, one of the pieces picked was Punjabi Mc (advert with dancing chameleon) , lots of the students were trying not to laugh.

myrtle so sorry to hear about your sister Thanks

The exam board have been in touch re the phone and asked if dd wanted to make a statement as well as the school, so she did and sent it in today.

kitty dd has Geography tomorrow and is not looking forward to it.

pikapikachu · 04/06/2019 17:05

My dd is doing Geography tomorrow. She prefers physical to human whereas I was the opposite.
She said that her creative writing went really well but the comprehension was hard going.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 04/06/2019 17:16

DS wrote about a market scene? Not sure which exam board. He was proud he had included extended metaphors and a circular narrative, English is his weakest subject so we shall see.

He also had OCR Music, and said it was straightforward, anyone else do this one? He was glad there were no questions about Palestinian conflict music, or Greek or African music. Instead they asked about the Concerto through time, which he had (luckily) practised at school.

big old Maths one (calculator) on Thursday!

Soursprout weird is not necessarily bad. DD2 once wrote about a meeting with a new person and did it as a haunted room story, where the ghost in question actually turned out to be her designated guardian angel, who lived on the ceiling and wore floral suits.

She got almost full marks. As long as there is a link for the cue, you can go almost anywhere.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 04/06/2019 17:26

Soursprout, a few of DS friends did it from the point of view of a fish Grin so this may be a legit option!

readyforsunshine · 04/06/2019 17:31

Kitty dd did marketplace too, her teacher advised to go for descriptive over narrative, I guess it must be what she finds comes most naturally.
Secret if you like those box sets I can also recommend ‘Dead to me’

readyforsunshine · 04/06/2019 17:33

Sorry I meant silent sister not secret!

WhiteDust · 04/06/2019 17:34

H E Bates (best known for Darling buds of May) 'The Mill' passage here - Eng. Lang.
