Oh good luck to all the history sitters today.

ds is still asleep, I made the mistake of closing his door when I got girls up and out to school, but that means he hasn't surfaced with normal house noise. Took him a cup of tea half an hour ago, but he was flat out.

need to go and wake him.
He was calmer and happier last night after a nap and some decent food, so I'm hoping he is back on track.

Done. Apparently not great questions, but not a complete disaster. So a bit "meh". For Germany they asked about the Locarno Agreement - so quite narrow, and for Civil Rights a question about who was the most influential leader between two dates...... So, having learned a huge amount, her two questions covered two very specific and short timelines. That made it really hard to write lots, although she then said she ran out of time for a conclusion on the Civil Rights, but only because it took her so long to decide how to answer the question!

I get the impression the exam boards are doing this a lot this year. It's quite dispiriting spending hours and hours revising your entire topic and then getting such minutely focused questions that it is difficult to write lots on.

KittyMcKitty · 03/06/2019 11:53

Well done all dc. Had a text from ds (AQA) who felt it went “quite well”.

Iambuffy · 03/06/2019 12:12

Not quite sure what to think from my staking:)

Apparently the 1st question was horrendous but had a question on William which is what DS was hoping for.

jamimmi · 03/06/2019 12:22

Any news on AQA paper 1 history? Mine has no study leave so not back till 4. Want to know how it was so I can prepare. I'm currently trying to finish a MSc module so been a bit absent this weekend. Feeling guilty

TabbyStar · 03/06/2019 12:28

DD seems pretty happy with AQA America and Cold War, she just missed out one 4 marker as she ran out of time. Twitter stalking seems to indicate it was okay, though obviously there are various topics. We're off out for lunch as a treat (mainly a treat for me...!)

bizzey · 03/06/2019 12:40

Oh dear ! First question was on the effects of Germany bombing Deptford.
Ds has just asked me where Deptford is ? !

bizzey · 03/06/2019 13:02

To make things worse..i knew the answer and told him he had "gone passed it " on the river boat we took up the Thames to get to Greenwich!.

Oj and err we live in london !

bizzey · 03/06/2019 13:05

I have not asked him any more questions ! 😅😅

jamimmi · 03/06/2019 13:37

Ok mixed reviews . I know he has conflict and we 1 today and America. Praying it goes ok as its he one very definite ALevel choice. Think I may supply biscuits and coke at 4pm.

Edexcel - Crime and Punishment and Whitechapel - went "ok-ish" as far as I've been told. She thinks/hopes she did better on the 20 marker than 2 of the 4 markers...

Iambuffy · 03/06/2019 15:13

Just waiting for ds now...

Sounds like ours did the same exam myrtle

Iambuffy · 03/06/2019 15:53

Ds very pleased with that exam. Phew!

behindlocknumbernine · 03/06/2019 16:16

Myrtle dd sat the same paper and said the exact same. I quote "I had no clue on some of the 4 mark questions but found the big questions easy so it could have been much worse"

phew. She's now revising English for tomorrow.

Iambuffy · 03/06/2019 16:20

Ds was happy with the 4 markers too but said that when he saw the 20 marker "he could have cried with happiness"
😁

Eng lang tomorrow am. He's dreading it.

myrtleWilson · 03/06/2019 16:23

Yay to the 20 markers!

DD did some English earlier and is now doing a few hours on Classics - which isn't until Wednesday but am gently suggesting over revising on classics to make up for the nightmare that the first paper apparently was.... (plus she's got Spanish on Wednesday too and that is probably her worst subject - Spanish and Classics are a clash so I think they've got to be isolated for the exams somehow...)

KittyMcKitty · 03/06/2019 16:47

myrtleWilson your poor dd. Clashes are horrible. Depending on the length of the exams the standard procedure is to keep them in the exam hall (under exam conditions) and sit them back to back.

KittyMcKitty · 03/06/2019 16:54

Here’s the bit from the JCQ book

AQA Economics here (the Macro paper).

Came home happy after paper 1 (Micro) before half term.

Today DS says he's got no flipping clue how today went.

He says he answered all the questions (which is a good start) but felt a lot of the questions were quite subjective.

AQA English Lang tomorrow.

He's dreading it Sad.

Making his favourite dinner tonight in a bid to give him a tiny boost.

Hope everyone else is hanging in there!

pointythings · 03/06/2019 17:23

DD2 very happy with History - the America bit was good but the big Germany question on the Schlieffen plan was right up her street and is an area of interest for her.

She's looking forward to Lang tomorrow, it's creative writing which is her absolute best - she's been scoring 9s consistently since mid year 10. She doesn't like persuasive writing as much but is very good at that too.

MaddieElla · 03/06/2019 17:28

OCR history here and of the two things they could have chose that she is least knowledgeable in, that's what she got.

Starting to get a bad feeling about results day after all these curve ball exams

jamimmi · 03/06/2019 17:52

He's home and quite happy felt it went ok but ran out of time on the Schlieffen plan which is a shame as he new it. Did half the answer do hopefully not all lost. Dreading English tomorrow now its he weakest subject!

myrtleWilson · 03/06/2019 17:59

Oh MaddieElla how has she reacted to that exam - fingers crossed she isn't in too much of a funk....

Thanks Kitty I think they are opting to do Classics first and then Spanish for the clashes (but am not 100% on that - I remember discussions early on and DD felt the decision of the order was the best option for her....) I think there is at least one person who will have an extra time allocation which will take them over the 3hour time frame so a bit of a logistical issue for the school to manage!
