DS1 has History of Warfare tomorrow, I think. Anyway, he has just treated us to a somewhat Kingtonesque (as in the late lamented Miles) rundown of the topic; I suspect that the examiners will be looking for something a bit more technical that 'long pointy things' and 'shorter pointy things', myself, but hey ho, it's only one of his reserve subjects for A level and he seems quite confident about his main ones.

The First Gulf War was getting on for 30 years ago. Almost as far back as the end of WWII was from the time I took O level HistoryShock.

TabbyStar · 02/06/2019 16:05

She keeps coming downstairs engaged at the sexism!

Same as RS. There is research that shows that women being reminded of their (inferior) status as women can have a negative impact on performance.

Greeborising · 02/06/2019 16:08

Whoops!

EnRaged!

TabbyStar · 02/06/2019 16:10

Didn't notice the typo, I suppose getting engaged could be one way to deal with it!

cptartapp · 02/06/2019 16:31

DS has really run out of steam with this revision. The half term has been a double edged sword. Not doing history, 11 exams to go.

steppemum · 02/06/2019 16:33

Tabby, that reminds me of dd, she was huffing over having to study Pride and Prejudice, as it is a romance and I said something about seeing it as a critical commentary on life at the time. She gave me a look and said
'just what we need, yet another book about how sexist the world is and how downtrodden women have been'
I thought then, hmm, maybe we should be reading things that are more empowering?

onaroll = please do DM, that would be great

Parsley65 · 02/06/2019 16:54

Hi All.
Another one doing history tomorrow and now lying down in a darkened room with a headache (and that's just me!)
Just wondering if any of your DC's have psychology (AQA) paper two tomorrow? It's my DD's favourite subject, one she wants to do at A level and degree. It's the one she has revised the most for - and the paper one was the worst exam of all to date. She was in bits about it, convinced her whole future is in tatters...

Iambuffy · 02/06/2019 17:25

I'm expecting nerves tomorrow morning

Luciaia · 02/06/2019 17:36

parsley dd doesn’t do psychology but good luck to yours! It’s horrible for them when they put lots of effort in and it doesn’t go to plan

myrtleWilson · 02/06/2019 20:05

DD was quite relaxed about history and then I asked her if she had done a particular practice paper - turned out no she hadn't. She did it and said it was quite hard - she got the right answers (from checking back with class notes) but it took her longer than she thought. Am hoping this will have been the brain blast she needs for tomorrow. She did really well in her mock so am keeping everything crossed for her (and you all) tomorrow.

Parsley - no sorry, no psychology here - DD's school only offer at A-Level so can't even give any second hand updates. hope it goes well though!

Luciaia · 02/06/2019 21:13

Anyone else’s dc doing both economics and history tomorrow? DD’s plan seems to be to cram the economics in in the 2 hours between history and the exam Shock... I’ll be praying for her

doublechocadooberry · 02/06/2019 21:32

DS has spent last couple of days absorbed in history but is so worried about what might come up. Last year's paper was a stinker apparently and he is nervous this year's might be similar. He really wants to do well as it is an A level choice and really hoping for a 6, it could go either way though. He couldn't have done more though so wishing our DC good health and kind papers.

TabbyStar · 03/06/2019 06:27

Just about to wake DD up an hour early so that she can do an hour of history revision that she failed to do over the weekend. I guess it's better than nothing....

KittyMcKitty · 03/06/2019 06:44

Good morning everyone well History Paper 1 is upon us. I had a horrendous nights sleep for some unknown reason hope all our dc slept better!!

Iambuffy · 03/06/2019 07:01

Good luck to all our DC today x

Powergower · 03/06/2019 07:05

Good luck to all! It's the worst week for its in terms of number of exams so I'll be glad when it's over. Let's hope history isn't too bad.

Porridge being consumed as I type. Then off. DD slept well last night even though she was quite stressed. Spent the evening box set binge watching Big Little Lies - it is really good, highly recommended.

Good luck to all in the various History papers being done today. I am sure we will all catch up later.

behindlocknumbernine · 03/06/2019 07:54

Just had to remind dd to get up....

Good luck to all sitting history this morning.

marmiteloversunite · 03/06/2019 08:05

Good luck to all for the final push!!

TabbyStar · 03/06/2019 08:40

Good luck to your DD Sour and to everyone else's DCs. I must say my knowledge of the Cold War has increased massively over the last 12 hours Grin. Now for some of my own work, history is an A level choice for my DD and it's quite distracting having her coming and going (I run my own business so work from home a lot), sometimes I find myself searching Twitter before she comes home if she's hanging out at school to find out how the paper was!

myrtleWilson · 03/06/2019 08:51

One very anxious DD dropped off... I forgot to remind her to read the question properly. Am sure she will but I've done it before every exam so it feels like I haven't got my lucky socks on (am not usually a believer in socks, lucky or otherwise but I feel out of kilter Confused )

Ds quite nervous today.

I'll be stalking social media for news of the edexcel exam!

TabbyStar · 03/06/2019 09:32

Buffy stalking is quite a good word, I feel like I'm stalking too!
