Dd has a place at her schools sixth form. They had to give their subject choices on application in February. Obviously, these all may change dependant on GCSE results. Individual A’levels have additional requirements ie: Maths you need a level 7 minimum & pass an induction test .It is hopefully flexible enough as they have pathways to suit all results.

Last week of Exams . Maths, History on Tuesday. Chemistry Weds & physics Friday.
Can’t wait until it’s all over with ‘just’ 6th form induction day & prom to stress over ....

tabbystar same as my dd, she will be babysitting and buying and selling online but only to fund buying clothes, festival spending money (2 4 day ones Shock) and parties (I don’t like to think that it’ll be going towards alcohol). Wish she’d have a serious passion for something or a hobby she could pursue. Although on the upside she has mentioned that she’d like to get back into reading for fun

Iambuffy · 09/06/2019 13:21

Loved "song of Achilles" silent

I think ds could do 4 if he wanted but they recommend 3.

His 1st choice 6th form doesn't require an EPQ either.

More practice for Maths paper 3 here. Foundation and Higher and various boards covered!

DD is doing a French exchange, going camping with 2 different groups of friends (especially valuable as she may be separated from them next year), we're going on our last 'big' family summer holiday and she may do an Art course if one fits in. She's also planning to redecorate both her bedroom and an under-used downstairs room she's planning to turn into more of a studio....

Since January - when the final Art project requirements came out - and with an Advanced level dance exam at Easter and 2 competitive festivals meaning she's kept up 8-10 hours of dance a week every week, I don't think she's had a proper day off. She's due a good amount of downtime....

Luciana yes to the buying and selling, and Leeds festival on the day of the results!

srilankadreaming · 09/06/2019 14:31

Well you are further on than me Tabby star. At least your daughter has a job even if you think she's wasting her earnings. My DD seems to think as she's worked 'soooo hard' for the exams that she's entitled to an extended fun holiday with lots of (expensive) treats like theme parks and I'm going to pay for it all.
Example: Mum can you take me and a friend to * on Monday 24th?
ME: No
DD: Why not ?
ME: Er 'cos I have to go to work!

You couldn't make it up! I had a real laugh at that one.

MIne also keeps wavering about 3rd A level

Mine too. So did I, started off thinking about doing Maths, thought about economics, did politics during our induction week, decided to do geography and eventually changed to RE at October half term of what is now year 12!

DS is definitely doing history and Spanish but is wavering between law and geography for his 3rd subject. I think geography would keep more options open but I could see him getting a very good grade for law so swings and roundabouts.

As for summer plans, a bit of down time plus two college welcome days, a few days away with us, 4 weeks NCS and then results and college induction and more time away at the very beginning of September. Also looks like he will be doing several races (he's into athletics).

Wanted to try to fit in a lifeguard training course so he could earn some money once at sixth form college but may have to delay that until October half term.

fairweathercyclist · 09/06/2019 14:37

Sorry for the double post above, internet access is quite wobbly this weekend.

raspberryrippleicecream · 09/06/2019 14:40

DS2's year is the first year at their school to drop AS levels, so most DC will only start 3.

DS2 is hopefully starting four, Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Music. Further Maths could finish up as an AS though. However the music teacher is leaving and the A level Music availability is looking doubtful, would be a BTEc instead. Which now means DS2 is wobbling over sixth form choice, but the school that offers music doesn't offer Further Maths. We need to sit down and do a pros/cons list after GCSEs .

pikapikachu · 09/06/2019 14:51

Am I the only parent who’s dd doesn’t know what career she wants to do?? Even her A levels she is not sure ?

Definitely not. Ds chose his A-levels in results day. Dd is definitely doing Biology, Maths and EPQ but is wavering between Sociology and Psychology. A year ago she was thinking of History but GCSE has put her off studying it.

TabbyStar · 09/06/2019 15:29

srilanka I find the working whilst DD is on holiday really difficult, I don't want to stop her doing stuff, but I don't want to be up till midnight waiting for her to come back from a gig.

srilankadreaming · 09/06/2019 15:45

Tabbystar I completely get that. They are at that age where you want them to be independent a bit more but then worry where they are!

Strange as it sounds as I can't wait for Friday, there is this slight fear that there are about 13 weeks to kill until college starts and after months of being full on, after the excitement of prom etc, there is a whole summer to fill. I want DD to be busy as she has mental health problems with diagnosed anxiety and OCD and lots of time on her hands for her to overthink is quite a problem. She completely refused to do NCS and has a few vague plans at this stage. Still I think she'll be asleep for most of the first week! 5 exams to go!

Arewedone · 09/06/2019 15:54

Dd has faffed around this weekend and hadn’t done as much revision even though it’s the last stretch. Only 2 left but really flagging now! How’s everyone else?

Pipandmum · 09/06/2019 15:55

My son is really wanting a job for the summer but is 15 and everywhere he goes they tell him he needs to be 16. He has a part time job but it doesn’t look like it will give him the hours they initially promised. He also sells clothes (but buys as much too).
But first it’s festival then a week in Spain with his girlfriend. Only one exam remaining (German and he couldn’t care less). Not A levels but Apprenticeship college and he’s already got a work placement for it. Just wish he could get another job!

brownbeauty · 09/06/2019 15:57

My ds has left school for study leave
He only has three exams left to sit
Then the leavers assembly
Shirt signing day
Prom

Luciaia · 09/06/2019 15:59

Dd also doing lots of faffing. Sitting and then getting up for another hour and going back in a guilty cycle

Iambuffy · 09/06/2019 16:02

Ds did 2.5 hours revision yesterday and 2 today.

He's off out with dh this evening.

No exams til Tuesday then its a double.😩

Ds2 has a nasty head cold - praying ds1 doesn't get it!! 😣

He's flagging tbh. And so am I!!

Arewedone · 09/06/2019 16:07

No summer job here either sadly. Going travelling for 3.5 weeks around Asia. Then back in time for results and Reading! She’s assured me she plans on starting her reading for economics but I’m not holding my breath!

MaddieElla · 09/06/2019 16:09

DD is actually looking forward to this final week. They are her strongest subjects and she's positively excited about chemistry and physics. I am hoping they aren't devil papers Confused

Iambuffy · 09/06/2019 16:10

I don't think ds had planned to be given reading prep over the summer for a levels :)

They did it in my day - assume they still do?

Arewedone · 09/06/2019 16:11

Iambuffy- big fingers x! Yes I’m flagging too, I’m not naturally v calm and it has taken Herculean effort and wine to get this far without getting in a tizzy
