AQA History - Cold War & Elizabethan. DD said several pupils
walked out of the exam in tears Shock. She thought it was pretty tough but answered everything although she knows she made a big error on one of the 8 mark questions. She's kicking herself as was hoping for an 8 in History and it's one of her A-level choices.
AQA foundation maths was fine apparently Smile

TabbyStar · 06/06/2019 20:12

My DD did AQA history Elizabeth and Britain, Power and the People. Felt The Globe question wasn't straightforward, and then the 16 marker about how war influenced Parliamentary reform started well but then she tailed off and rambled as she didn't really know what else to say! Other questions seemed okay but not as good as paper one.

Iambuffy · 06/06/2019 20:27

Sorry to hear of all the upset DC 😔

pointythings · 06/06/2019 20:37

DDs" said both papers were OK - History not as good as paper 1 but also not bad, maths she only struggled with the last 3 questions.

ThelmaDinkley · 06/06/2019 20:39

My daughter did Normans and Power and the People. She made a big cock up with the right marker on the general strike but thought other questions were not too bad. She has started to really dislike history which is a shame as she previously loved the subject and was getting high marks. I think students are not being able to study it in depth with these curriculum changes

ThelmaDinkley · 06/06/2019 20:40

Eight marker should say not right marker!

Arewedone · 06/06/2019 21:23

Just sat through dinner with Dd looking at igcse maths hilarious memes on Twitter- seems unanimous last 6 questions impossible!!
Dd got 2/6 correct, for anyone that cares the probability question answer was 12 🤓
No idea why they included A level topics in a gcse level paper!!
Back on the Biology tonight!

PosyBaggins · 06/06/2019 21:39

Another one here 'De-lurking' to say how helpful this all is for keeping in perspective.

Dd (AQA History Elizabeth) reckoned there was a date typo on the front of the paper title waffle today (they had to sit in silence for 15 mins staring at it waiting for the start pistol) 1568 - 1903. It didn't particularly make any difference to anything (unlike the mistake in her brand new OCR Class Civ Text book about the Roman Kings which sent her off into a self-doubting spin in the exam Sad )

PosyBaggins · 06/06/2019 21:40

whoops, that 1903 was my typo.. Eliz reigned for quite a while, but not that long

KittyMcKitty · 06/06/2019 21:47

Not a typo it is 1568-1603 the last 35 years of her reign.

PosyBaggins · 06/06/2019 21:50

what? Oh no! She talked about loads of stuff pre-1568 in the exam. 1559 Supremacy laws and stuff that were all in the text book. Argh!

PosyBaggins · 06/06/2019 22:00

whoops, she's usually very switched on.. predicted whizzy grades and it's an A level choice.
But that's a fairly big thing not to notice. d'oh!

KittyMcKitty · 06/06/2019 22:05

Posy I’m sure she’ll be fine Smile - Elizabeth is all 8 mark questions and the 16 mark one on The Globe.

readyforsunshine · 06/06/2019 22:09

Marlow I agree with myrtle, stay positive he has to put it behind him & focus on the next one. Chances are he’s done better than he thinks🤞

clary · 06/06/2019 23:25

maudbailey double science is still six papers for most people doing regular GCSE, just shorter papers. Obviously massively different with iGCSE.

Michaelahpurple · 07/06/2019 04:39

Arewedone this is off topic and a bit abject, but how does one see chat on, say, edexcel gcse maths paper 2 on Twitter. It seems so specific A topic (can you tell I don't use my twitter account...). Would love to browse but all I seem to find is teens posted much the same pictures with witty captions like "me after that paper". Etc

Iambuffy · 07/06/2019 07:05

Morning.

Ds seems quite nervous about today - more so than yesterday, which surprises me.

Its eng lang which he hates but which he obv needs 5 in...

Right. Off to provide a filling breakfast!

Luciaia · 07/06/2019 07:08

Dd also more nervous than yesterday but with nerves concentrated on biology. She hasn’t even covered 2 out of the 3 topics in her revision and so will be an interesting cram in between English and the exam

Iambuffy · 07/06/2019 07:20

He came into me last night at about 10.40 and seemed quite worried :(

PosyBaggins · 07/06/2019 07:39

Best of luck to your Biology and Eng Lang sitters this morning....

pikapikachu · 07/06/2019 08:09

Good luck everyone.

readyforsunshine · 07/06/2019 08:20

Yes I had a look on Twitter after comments on here & had the same experience michaela!
Dds worst 2 subjects in 1 day today, English & biolgy & the trains cancelled - bring on the W/e!

Arewedone · 07/06/2019 08:26

Here we go again, good luck everyone !

TabbyStar · 07/06/2019 08:35

Twitter was funny to begin with, I particularly liked the axelotl memes, i think biology was the second exam for DD, actually some of the chemistry ones were funny too about trying to find ammonia in the periodic table, but they have got a bit samey after a while.

Arewedone · 07/06/2019 08:43

Will check later where Dd found the Twitter chat about the answers to the igcse last 6 questions was really helpful and funny.
