I don't think it was a particularly wise move to tell students it was a hard paper before they went in.
Nothing like stoking up the stress and anxiety levels ehHmm

I'd be furious if the teacher did that. What people find hard (especially in maths) can vary so much. For example one person might find probability hard but another might struggle with trigonometry. The teacher can say what they like afterwards but it's going to shake a lot of people's confidence doing that 😡

fairweathercyclist · 06/06/2019 14:41

DS just back. Said history was fine, just one question he wasn't 100% sure about (OCR) and AQA higher Maths was ok - one question he had no idea about so left it and spent time on the rest that he could do.

MaddieElla · 06/06/2019 14:44

Yes DD said she definitely didn’t do one question, think it was on a cylinder or some strange shaped thing.

DeRigueurMortis · 06/06/2019 15:00

BimKom congratulations on the Maths prize!

AQA higher maths today but don't yet know how it went - will report back.

First paper went very well, so fingers crossed.

Sounds like quite a few are feeling the pressure on Maths - DS says for him it's 9 or nothing so I'm worried he's putting too much pressure on himself.

Brutal day tomorrow with English and Biology Sad

pikapikachu · 06/06/2019 15:26

Waiting to hear from dd about history. She did Normans and History of medicine Confused

CountessDracula · 06/06/2019 15:30

My dd did the Edexcel iGCSE maths today and said they all found it really hard too (and her school is pretty academic, 94% 9-7 last year in Maths, just to put it in context) - I think it just genuinely was a difficult paper

Rugbylife · 06/06/2019 15:44

Ds did WJEC intermediate maths today ( teacher reduced whole class from higher tier after awful mocks before Christmas), he said it was the easiest maths paper he’s ever sat! Highest he can get is B grade.

NationalAnthem · 06/06/2019 15:44

Maths AQA went well today - much better than Paper 1. English and combined science tomorrow.

Iambuffy · 06/06/2019 15:46

Ds says aqa higher maths was "ok" but he didn't answer the last 2 questions. He is very chuffed the formulas he was revising last night came up!

Says that edexcel history Anglo saxons and normans and the american west was "evil"...the Normans and Anglo Saxon paper was good, but he feels he didnt do as well on the American west paper.

So, all in all quite positive.

Biology and last eng lang paper tomorrow!

bizzey · 06/06/2019 15:53

Anyone got news on aqa history
Henry viii and or superpowers .
I am definitely wibbling hete !

KittyMcKitty · 06/06/2019 15:55

Ds did AQA History but Migration & Elizabeth- all I’ve had is a text saying it was “fine” and he’s staying at school to revise Biology.

behindlocknumbernine · 06/06/2019 16:05

Edexcel history here. To quote dd: "what the hell was that?" Exam paper was in a format they had not looked at in class, it covered things they had not looked at in class. She's convinced she's failed.
She's not going up to her room to "shrivel up in to a ball".
This one has knocked her. Poor thing.

Urgh.

behindlocknumbernine · 06/06/2019 16:06

*now. not not...

Iambuffy · 06/06/2019 16:06

Oh no :(
Which one?

behindlocknumbernine · 06/06/2019 16:09

buffy Edexcel history, Cold War and Early Elizabethan. It was the cold war questions that threw her...

Iambuffy · 06/06/2019 16:12

I think ds feels ok about today, so I'm relieved

He queried a question from yesterdays geography paper worg his teacher that he was convinced he'd answered wrongly and his teacher said his answer was exactly what was on the mark scheme! :)

I do wonder if the children are that being too hard on themselves?...

jamimmi · 06/06/2019 16:14

AQa history ok but a bit obscure on the Norman's at times. He didn't.like the question on the king and md religion
Medicine was fairs apparently! Hope that helps pikapikachu. Horrid waiting to hear. Aqa higher maths ok. Just hope this means he understood it! Aiming for a 5 anything higher a bonus. Definitely not an a level choice!

DeRigueurMortis · 06/06/2019 16:20

So update:

AQA Maths Higher.

There was a question about discrete/continuous, grouped and ungrouped. A one mark multi-choice question.

DS and his friend both answered it the opposite way.

Having googled it DS is none the wiser as to which it right given there are conflicting views.

I am a bit Hmm there is a stress about one mark but if anyone has the answer I'd be grateful to settle him for exams tomorrow.

Thanks....

pikapikachu · 06/06/2019 16:24

Thanks jamimmi- dd is currently at a Biology session and she's weaker on paper 2 than paper 1 so I've got my fingers crossed that it went well.

bizzey · 06/06/2019 16:27

DeRigueur ...what was the question !

KittyMcKitty · 06/06/2019 16:28

My DD did edexcel GCSE higher paper. Found it terribly hard and didn't finish. The teachers warned them as they went in that it was a very hard paper!

The teachers aren’t allowed to see the paper! The only people who are allowed to see it are the Exams Officer and Invigilator (and that’s just to check the information on the front and sign to say it is correct) - teachers aren’t allowed in the same room as the paper!!

bizzey · 06/06/2019 16:28

Sorry missed the " ? " !

TeenTimesTwo · 06/06/2019 16:33

I was wondering whether what the teacher meant to say was something like "You know these papers are very hard so don't worry if you can't do it all".
