Any of your DS doing the Hampton Test today? I feel more anxious than my son, I need some hand holding!

I would be keen to hear from those applying this year or already at Hampton, if they received a personalised note from the Head before exams. It is such a lovely guesture given the dire year the boys have all faced and testament to the school and values.

I remember getting a postcard from Hamptons before my son sat the exam a few years ago. Also a note on the offer letter, but I think most of the HM do that on the offer letters. It is a lovely school.

DS has got a letter through the post today, so I'm guessing it's something like that. Will find out once he's back from school!

Thanks @BookSkark @Hopeful201 for your reply and reassurane that this is a typical approach of the leadership. Are you DD both enjoying their experience at Hampton?

BookSkark · 05/11/2020 20:47

DS is applying this year, so I can't tell you much more I'm afraid. Other than to confirm that his letter was indeed a postcard wishing him luck for the exam, which he was really pleased to receive!

@FreeSpiritWithin , re moving from Falcons to Hampton prep for year 1, have you considered the journey? It might be worth trying a practice run to see the traffic around Hampton. You have of course got the school bus option from Chiswick but a reminder that the dc on the bus go up to age 18 and include LEH girls too. Falcons pre-prep is a good school too.

Also be aware that not all the boys at Hampton prep get places at Hampton, the registrar will give you the stats but they send ds to Reeds, KGS and other schools that have entry age 11. At Falcons you have the option of staying until 13 etc.

@Singingrain1223 - Yes we did the drive on the day of the assessment- it took us 26mins which isint too bad but of course it was around 9am so after the school hour traffic. I am not keen on Falcons Prep - the Pre-Prep is excellent so if we dont take up the space at Hampton, my son will definitely sit for 7+ assessments to go elsewhere.
Do you know more about Hampton Prep? Do you think its a good Prep school? I have been told about the assured places for Hampton Senior school (which are far and few) but I am not keeping my hopes too high for that. I had always wanted my son to sit for KCS at 7+ but if we take up this space, he will sit for KCS at 11+.

Singingrain1223 · 06/11/2020 08:04

@FreeSpiritWithin , my ds is at Hampton not the prep but I am familiar with the set up. Firstly if you aren't planning on using the school coach you must try the journey to arrive @ 8.30am. 1,000's of children go to schools in the small area between Hampton Hill High st and Hanworth Rd.
I would also speak to the registrar again and ask if they have sent ds to KCS at 11. If your ds is bright enough for KCS he will also have a place at Hampton School and they won't want to lose him.
The difference between feeder preps and preps like Falcons is there is less emphasise/pressure on the preparation for 11 plus because at Hampton prep they have selected the 20 or so boys they are sending to the main school etc and the result is not exam dependent.

Finally it might help you to know that in the Twickenham area there is a boys prep school called The Mall and many parents who want the flexibility you want at 11 would consider The Mall too.

@Singingrain1223 - Thank you so much for the information. Its really helpful. We are renting in Chiswick at the moment so we do have the option to move to Hampton and surrounding area which is a bonus. And I would absolutely love it if he secures an assured place for Hampton Senior school but being one of the 20 kids to get chosen wont be easy.
I will definitely speak to Ms. Jolly again about how they prepare kids for 11+ but my partner is convinced its a better school than Falcons. Will let you know Smile

Mumchumof2 · 01/12/2020 08:39

Hi all did anyone sit the 7+ for Hampton? My son is on the waiting list. He is already at a prep school, (not a feeder into any 11+). We think we may have been a bit naive, we literally sent him in without any tutoring so think his story writing may have not been as good as it could have. Does anyone know if this waiting list does move?

Mumchumof2 · 01/12/2020 08:41

Also does anyone know of other than the school reference, does the school inform your current school of the outcome? We haven’t told our DS of the outcome yet......

Singingrain1223 · 01/12/2020 11:27

@Mumchumof2 , Hampton prep may send an email to your child's school saying XXX is on the WL/has an offer/rejected. It will have already been sent of they do this. It's rare for a school to acknowledge they receive this info often in advance of the parents finding out as it leads to problems. It's more so the school can support the child if need be.
