Any of your DS doing the Hampton Test today? I feel more anxious than my son, I need some hand holding!

I don't know but 13+ exam for 2021 entry is 26th Jan.

snowangels · 17/01/2019 18:12

Starlilly88 - on the 11+ exam day the boys were apparently told there were 630 boys going for 110 places.

gameflight · 17/01/2019 20:47

The numbers are on their website. I think it is 270 for 65 places at 13+.

Mastfam · 17/01/2019 21:17

I was told 130 at 11+ and another 70 at 13+

GazillionDreams · 18/01/2019 11:08

We had an email on Tuesday inviting DS fo an interview on Monday 21st. He is very excited/nervous!

Starlilly88 · 18/01/2019 12:45

Sorry, I meant how many applications at 11 and 13. The odds are so tough

conscience13 · 20/01/2019 11:08

Is football and rugby compulsory at Hamptons? And if the child has medical condition related to very sensitive teeth and bones, will he still have to play at Hamptons during PE.

Poppyred25 · 20/01/2019 12:33

I can't comment on the medical side but if you are paying a vast amount of money each term for the full curriculum / experience then I would have thought you would choose a school where your ds can participate fully. Perhaps consider a school where sport has a lower profile.

Tolacar · 21/01/2019 14:44

They can choose between football and rugby in the first two terms. I can’t comment on medical stuff but I’m sure you can work with them to find a solution if your son is not able to participate in sport for medical reasons. Sport is a big part of Hampton though.

conscience13 · 21/01/2019 15:35

Thankyou Tolacar and Poppyred25.
I understand Hamptons are big at sports, We may need to talk about this with school and then proceed. My son had a very bad experience in the playground couple of years back .He has never played after that apart from warm ups during his current pe lessons, he will be a more of liability than anything else if he gets into football or rugby. He currently enjoys playing badminton, cross country, table tennis and tennis, little bit of golf and enjoys swimming. Current school is wonderful and accommodative /receptive to issues. Keeping fingers cross.

I was told that they had around 750-800 applicants for 11+, about a third are invited for interviews. Although they take between 120-130, there are a number of allocated assisted places from the prep school, and a number that were offered a place at 10+, so they will have around 90 places for those who took the 11+ exam.

clickazee · 24/01/2019 10:56

I know it's easy for me to say. But if you can, try not to get too obsessed by the numbers. My son got a place a few years ago and turned it down because he got a place at another school which he (slightly) preferred. He wasn't the only one in his class to do it. If you think most boys are taking between 4 and 6 (or more) exams, there will inevitably be some who would prefer a co-ed school or another boys school as well as those for whom Hampton is the first choice. There will also be a significant minority for whom Hampton is a stretch, and others who really shouldn't take the exam at all. It is crazily competitive, but not quite as bad as it first appears. Good luck to you all, though, it's a brutal process.

Poppyred25 · 24/01/2019 13:18

The issue for Hampton this year is that last year they had too many "yes" registrations from parents by 1st March and so extended the number of classes. Currently Hampton has 6 classes of @ 24 and LEH had 6 classes too for their first year of secondary school. Both will have to offer less places this February to make sure they get a more accurate "acceptance" ratio. Also several in current year 1 at Hampton turned down KCS age 11 entry which wouldn't have been expected in the past. Sorry this isn't very helpful but if you do end up with an offer or waiting list place well done to your ds - he must be exceptionally bright.

sazzy5 · 24/01/2019 18:51

There are always a massive number of boys sitting for Hamptons, loads get interviewed and they offer quite well too. In our school 4 got offered and none went, so there is more chance of getting in than you think. Don’t worry about the numbers it drives you nuts.

Tolacar · 25/01/2019 12:41

I believe they take approx 20 from the prep, sometimes more. 10+ places around 30. Leaving the rest for the 11+.

DimmyDoo · 25/01/2019 14:33

700 sitting for 80 remaining places (after allocations to assured places and 10+). 120 places in total, no room for bulge classes this year. Figures directly from the school

gameflight · 27/01/2019 16:44

The odds are better at 13+ I think fewer applicants per place....

Tid13 · 28/01/2019 16:29

To be fair, this 700 probably includes the 40-50 boys that already have places from the 10+ and assured places scheme as you have to sit the 11+ to be considered for a scholarship, so in reality it is 650 boys looking to fill 80 places. Still long odds, but not quite so long!

lewisk · 28/01/2019 19:01

Hello. Just saw this thread. My son sat Hampton but didn't get an interview. Is a bit of knock to his confidence as my eldest did get a place a few years ago (but didn't end up taking it). I'm now placing all my hopes on the other applications we've made - is a stressful time really...

mumislearning · 28/01/2019 20:15

lewisk

Has he been called for other interviews? What areas have you applied in? There maybe places on waiting lists.
Good luck, it is a stressful process

Prufrockspeach · 29/01/2019 14:01

Just received an e-mail that we will be informed of outcome of 13+ pretest (which DS sat on Saturday 26th) on the 31st via e-mail (i.e. "no" or "interview")...so don't think they are doing them in batches like they did for the 11+ candidates. We also seem to have lost an interview day - perhaps not as many candidates as expected? (wishful thinking?)

Naturenurture · 31/01/2019 14:46

Just had call back for interview from 13+ on 26-01. Anyone else?

Inittowinit · 31/01/2019 15:42

Hello. Yes got the email for interview on 5th.

gameflight · 31/01/2019 18:00

Great. Good luck with the interview. Do you know how many sat the exam on 26th?

Prufrockspeach · 01/02/2019 17:53

I'm not sure but when questioned my son didn't think it was anything like the 700 boys at 11+....he said that they just about filled the performance hall and by his calculation he didn't think there could have been anymore than 300 (unless his math was off!) When my DS1 sat it a few years ago everyone from his school who got an interview was offered a place (5 boys) and all but 1 turned it down. So maybe the odds are not as crazy as first assumed as the same boys will also be going for KCS, RGS, St Pauls and Westminster...and sometimes Hampton is actually the "back up"....

Probably a different story at 11+ though!
