Is there a thread yet for parents with kids doing entrance exams in Jan? It's been so helpful looking through previous years threads and now we're going through it I'd love a hand-hold and any advice on what to expect!

V haven't had any news about the interview other than the email! Got email for music scholarship though, thanks for your note @turboturtle

Motheroftw0 · 12/01/2019 11:33

Did you get a call today @walkingtheplank ? Just curious if T is making calls today!

Maximilli · 12/01/2019 12:24

Does anyone know if there is any significance in a Saturday interview at T and whether this means that an academic scholarship is out of the question?

Motheroftw0 · 12/01/2019 12:44

As far as I know with my 10 plus experience that's the case @Maximilli, but I may be wrong! For 10 plus Saturday interviews had loads of parents assembled in an informal setting where there would be some staffs and currents parents to who we could ask questions- anything except their exam performance as they wouldn't know! Meanwhile the children would be taken in for a 1-1 interview

Maximilli · 12/01/2019 13:06

Thanks for the info Motheroftw0. Trying to remain calm during this process but failing miserably!

Motheroftw0 · 12/01/2019 13:20

I know the feeling Maximilli, I was devastated on Thursday for the generic interview email. That hinted me it's gonna be one of the Saturday interviews and now when I haven't even got a call for that don't know what to think!!!!!

walkingtheplank · 12/01/2019 13:36

They have hundreds of people to call though. At least you know you will get an interview.
I never though DS was in line for academic interview so I'm more sanguine about that.

Motheroftw0 · 12/01/2019 13:41

Of course they do, should respect that. Hence why I haven't called them yet, did you get a call today @walkingtheplank if you don't mind me asking..

walkingtheplank · 12/01/2019 13:43

Yes we did.

Motheroftw0 · 12/01/2019 13:55

Thanks for your response @walkingtheplank Smile

Chelsea3 · 12/01/2019 14:13

Oh so Saturday interview means no scholarship is being considered. Also does as anyone know if it's normal procedure for interviews to be conducted by Admissions team?

Motheroftw0 · 12/01/2019 14:27

I was only saying from my experience and also from what i gathered in this post
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/2570136-Trinity-school-scholarship

Stay positive, only T would know these for certain.

PeekaPeeka · 12/01/2019 14:28

Chelsea, when they say "admissions team", they just mean that your DS will be interviewed by a teacher, but they can't say which one at the moment - there will be an awful lot of boys being interviewed on the Saturday.

They have a number of teachers who do the admission interviews every year, and are very experienced in doing so.

PeekaPeeka · 12/01/2019 14:31

And yes, generally I think a Saturday interview usually means that your DS isn't being considered for an academic scholarship, I'm afraid.

enterparentone · 12/01/2019 14:40

I'm sure I read on a previous year's thread that someone had a Sat interview and got 20% scholarship. So don't lose heart...

Sorry for long delay in coming back on here. DS’s interview went really well yesterday and we left with a good feeling so fingers crossed.
Have also heard back from Whitgift and Dulwich. Interviews at both. We are over the moon!

gambaspilpil · 12/01/2019 15:47

Bondiboo74 that’s great news. Your DShas done expectionally well ,DC particularly is very tough!

Bondiboo74 · 12/01/2019 16:04

Thanks gambas. He has astounded us. Dulwich was a complete surprise!

SpaceOpera · 12/01/2019 16:54

Evening, DS has music audition at T on Monday. Any advice appreciated from experienced hands! Thanks a bunch!

gambaspilpil · 12/01/2019 17:26

Bondiboo my neighbour is one of the admissions registers at DC so I can ask her for any tips for you!

Jige · 12/01/2019 17:48

Hi all, my DS sat 10+ at Trinity and Whitgift. Out of curiosity I’m interested if anyone knows how many sat 10+ at Trinity? I think we can work by the last 3 digits of your candidate number. For example if your number was 1910321 (first 2 digits are the year, next 2 the year group sitting, last 3 your number). So if someone was given 1910321, we know that there were at least 321 that sat the 10+. To get an idea of the number of 10+ candidate can you reply with number close to but not your exact candidate eg 320 With the example. Hopefully the highest number would give a good estimate. From our actual number we know that are more than 20 candidates for the 10+!!!

SpaceOpera · 12/01/2019 18:12

Meant to say DS has 10+ music audition on Monday. Anyone gone through any of these in past years or even this year?

Unless I have an offer letter in my hand, I’m assuming nothing and getting straight into 11+ Prep with DS until Feb 14th - and beyond if he is not selected. The only downside is that I will be missing out on doing a broader set of things with him because of 11+ Prep. If he gets the 10+ offer he can set his sights on exploring non-academic areas of interest to him. So here’s hoping.

SpaceOpera · 12/01/2019 18:26

Jige from the T drop off and pick up I would have said there were about 200 candidates. I know W had just over 200.

Maximilli · 12/01/2019 18:53

I personally think there were less than 200 candidates at 10+. DS said that the exams were in classes of which there were 15 and there were 12 in his class. If it helps his number was close to 120 and we applied extremely close to the deadline.there's no guarantee of course that candidate numbers are given according to date of application.

SpaceOpera · 12/01/2019 19:05

You may well be right there - forgot T is a smaller school than W. Maybe closer to 150?
