do you think your name changes are sufficent to throw people off the scent

Those who recognise my name (e.g. from long-running threads like this) will hopefully be able to put two and two together and still recognise me.

Those people trying to advance search my current username will hopefully be limited in what they can find.

Before this series, Is had a different theme which I kept to through several namechanges.

TheThirdOfHerName · 29/07/2018 22:26

mmzz that's good that he has reached that decision. One less thing to worry about...

Sostenueto · 29/07/2018 22:44

Evening all! I see you are still all buzzing! alexanders dhFlowers and hopes and wishes in getting better soon!
Don't change names yet films as I have masses to catch up with and I will get even more confused!Grin
All OK this end jogging along and results day getting g close. Glad weather cooled down and managed to go out today if a bit windswept!
Dgd been learning mandarin with her bestie whose now off to Sri Lanka visiting friends. Dgd does love languages and is quire proud with her progress. She has started to think about the extended whatsit and what to do it on. Also looked at several unis for courses. Secretly I think she misses school a lot and the other day she was reminiscing about primary.
Hope all are well and enjoying holidays. I promise to come on regularly now I'm recovering!

AlexanderHamilton · 29/07/2018 22:56

Great to hear you are recovering sostenuto.

I promise no name change until at least after results.

adrinkofwater · 30/07/2018 07:30

sost and anyone else whose DC likes languages. Get them to check out uklo and the linguistics Olympiad. It's like the maths challenge (ukmat) but for linguistics. It's not about knowing lots of languages, but kind of problem solving and linguistics. DS discovered it last year and really enjoyed the problems and asked his school to enter him.

BlueBelle123 · 30/07/2018 07:35

Sost its good to hear from you Flowers and Cake for a speedy recovery.

Are people name changing to help with anonymity or just fancy a change, as so many of you appear to be about to change?

LooseAtTheSeams · 30/07/2018 07:44

Sost really glad to see you back on the thread and on the road to recovery! I like your dgd's interest in languages. DS is still plugging away at Japanese. Interesting that she seems to be missing school. DS seems happy enough to be on holiday but he also seems to be looking forward to sixth form.
Not planning to change my username at the moment - I'd probably confuse myself.Smile

BlueBelle123 · 30/07/2018 07:58

Loose I get confused enough as I thought you were name changing Smile

DS is definitely not missing school, he's far to fond of doing what he wants when he wants Hmm

I suggested he might want to do some of the A level work that has been set especially as he signed up for 4, apparently that's not a good idea Confused

LooseAtTheSeams · 30/07/2018 08:12

Bluebelle no, all hypothetical and I really would get confused!Smile had to get up very early this morning to catch a train to Kent and I'm just relieved I got on the right one! I could barely keep my eyes open!

Oddsocks15 · 30/07/2018 08:15

Good to see you back on the thread sost Flowers

No name change for me, although judging what I’m wearing I could change to holeinmyknickers Hmm

BlueBelle123 · 30/07/2018 08:19

Well if you did I think I would definitely remember who you were with that name Grin

mmzz · 30/07/2018 08:39

Sostenueto its good to have you back. If you decide to name change, go for Sost - its easier to spell and its what we all call you anyway!

Oddsocks15 please don't call yourself that! Your posts will all stand out but the visual imagery would be hard to shake off!

Talking of unique usernames, Teenmum60 I think yours is great, it really helps give you an identity, but I have to tell you I spent the first few months completely confused between you and TeenTimestwo! I've got it straight in my head now but it took me long enough.

Apologies for being AWOL. Work, heat etc have been rather distracting. Plus am training for the Great North Run - which has meant early morning runs to avoid the heat.

Getting ready to go on holiday at the weekend - can't believe when we get back it will be 4 days to results.

Good to hear @Sostenueto is getting back on her feet and best wishes to @AlexanderHamilton and her DH.

DS1 enjoyed his physics course and has been playing lots of cricket - including a game with DH's first XI from university (they have a reunion game every year) - he got 3 wickets and they took him to the pub. There was much reminiscing about how he was the first team baby and went to his first game aged 8 weeks. I remember BF-ing on a windy cricket pitch...

On name changes, I probably won't but have changed a couple of times previously. This one is my porn star name and I rather like it!

AChickenCalledKorma · 30/07/2018 08:56

adrinkofwater DD1 has done the UKLO linguistics Olympiad a couple of times and loves it. It's a perfect mix of language, puzzles and problem solving which really appeals to her mathematical side. Also her very, very lovely MFL teacher is in the habit of running evening sessions with lots of pizza while they practise for it!

mmzz · 30/07/2018 08:59

What do we call the year 12 and 13 threads? GCSEs are all-inclusive but soon our DC might go in different directions with some taking A levels, others BTEC etc.
How about "Class of 2020" when we move to the Further Education section?

As an aside, I've a feeling this thread won't make it to midnight of the 23rd, and it may not make it to midnight of the 22nd either!

OP posts:
AlexanderHamilton · 30/07/2018 09:32

Just to put a spanner in the works dd's course is 3 year one so she will be Class of 2021!

beenrumbled · 30/07/2018 09:38

sandy I've not been about much either, I'm off to catch up now.

DS has been for a taster day at his potential 6th form, and decided that Accounting A level is not for him. He is thinking of Maths, Physics and Business Studies now, but will wait for his results - history or government and politics are outside runners.

He has been helping in the garden = lots of digging! and playing cricket/football/refereeing. Some of his friends are doing NCS, but he wasn't keen.

sos hope you continue to recover well.

mmzz · 30/07/2018 09:38

We could just stick with the unifying thing then: GCSEs 2018 (no. xx)? Or any other ideas?

OP posts:
mmzz · 30/07/2018 09:40

beenrumbled wat does he want to do in the long term? Or if he doesn't know that yet, what does he know he doesn't want to do?

OP posts:
beenrumbled · 30/07/2018 10:12

mmzz he ultimately still wants to be a professional football referee, but is being as practical as possible, as he knows he will need a full time job until he reaches his goal - but a job that allows him his weekends/evenings to pursue the referring pathways (not asking for much)!!!

He is not keen on Uni at this point, and is possibly looking at a Business apprenticeship after 6th form, but his isn't sure at all.

Generally bright, sporty and level headed.

As he is unsure of his future after 6th form, I would have liked him to put an Art subject as a choice for A level, but he is definitely leaning towards the science/maths/business side of things!

mmzz · 30/07/2018 10:29

Has he considered doing Sports Science since referees are becoming ever more professional? Or does that only lead to jobs that on during other people's leisure time ie evenings and weekends because, for a while, at least, refereeing will have to be his side-job.

OP posts:
terfterf · 30/07/2018 10:36

How about "GCSE Class of 2018: what happened next..." for the first one? That should see us through to mid-September Grin

beenrumbled · 30/07/2018 11:07

mmzz that's the issue we have - he likes coaching, his club have paid for a coaching qualification for him, but if he goes down the sports science or coaching path, he wouldn't be able to referee as they are all roles which would require him to be there for match days!

So he may need to look at jobs outwith sports ....

He has been placed on a referee development course this month by the FA, so I've told him to chat to the staff there about his options.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 30/07/2018 11:47

Simply Y12 1st term? It covers all qualification types. Are we going to stay in secondary ed or move to further ed?

Oddsocks what you need are thicker knickers!

TheThirdOfHerName · 30/07/2018 12:14

I agree that Y12 in the title covers whatever education/training they're doing next.
