Recommendations extremely welcome - cheers :) I've occasionally dipped in and out of a few websites over the past couple of months and only found fright dresses, so I've retreated hastily and now we've just got a tiny amount of time left to go. I'll start the search properly after tonight's fish and chips.

mmzz my boys always resorted to hiring (at silly expense. But at least the things fitted).

Jinglebells99 · 13/06/2018 18:05

@Mmzz we got my slim ds’s prom suit from Top Man. This was a couple of years ago. But was good for slim waists.

Oratory1 · 13/06/2018 18:06

No prom for DS - had a formal dinner back in January after the mocks. I thought it would be a long summer and we would struggle to find things to do but he's decided he wants to try and get a job. Luckily we have a few local shops/cafes that are desperate for staff so that and limitless gaming should keep him busy !! And any experience is useful (though I don't think his dyslexic brain will be much good at the till - may be shelf stacking will be ok though !)

I was thinking I would like to acknowledge the effort he s put in and his attitude (before the results) but can't think of anything he wants and he wouldn't see going out a s a treat :( So may just have to keep telling him.

TerfTerfTerf · 13/06/2018 18:16

mmzz DS suit is from TKMaxx - massive range. His tall skinny mates have theirs from Top Man, H&M and Stags. DS is shorter and chunkier 😀

Stickerrocks · 13/06/2018 18:17

goodbye We have a spare prom dress but they only suit girls of tennis player's build who are confident about showing off their entire back (regardless of which frock eventually gets worn).

Debenhams & John Lewis are both worth a good look. Seriously consider any posh charity shops as well.

Are any of the tall, skinny mates 6’5” Terf? No prom here but DS is going to need a suit for sixth form and I know that M&S don’t do trousers long enough. If anyone comes across —cheap— high street very long length suits could you let me know please?

Cherryburn · 13/06/2018 18:22

Why isn’t strike through working?!

hmcAsWas · 13/06/2018 18:23

goodbyestranger My dd ordered a dress from Pretty Little Things. Look under Prom dresses.

here

hmcAsWas · 13/06/2018 18:25

Some of them are in my opinion (old fart alert) a bit trashy, but the one dd's has gone for is nice. They are a quite cheap but I couldn't persuade dd to spend more money Confused

Stickerrocks · 13/06/2018 18:27

cherry Try High & Mighty, Jacamo and Raging Bull sale sites. Raging Bull has some trousers reduced to £30.

@goodbye not sure where you live but this place is good : www.dynasty.london/dynasty-london-collection/dynasty-london/?p=2

They have a massive showroom with 100's of dresses in all different styles, colours and sizes. Stress free - make an appointment, turn up and try on anything that takes your fancy with 121 assistance....dresses are normally under 1/2 price compared to website prices....

TerfTerfTerf · 13/06/2018 18:33

cherry M&S have a new big&tall range but you might have to order it in to store. They go up to 37" leg. ASOS and River Island allegedly do suit trousers up to 38" leg.

Teenmum60 · 13/06/2018 18:34

ASOS for tall and skinny men (teens)

Cherryburn · 13/06/2018 18:38

Thank you sickerrocks, Terf and Teenmum. I didn’t know M&S had a big and tall range now and will check out the others too. I’ve been dreading it!

ReservoirDogs · 13/06/2018 18:54

HmCAsWas - that's stunning!

ReservoirDogs · 13/06/2018 18:56

Cherry maybe Jacamo - the one Freddie Flintoff advertises.

hmcAsWas · 13/06/2018 18:59

Not bad for a few squid is it Reservoir

EdwinaLIzzard · 13/06/2018 19:01

That dress is stunning HMC I am sure your DD will look amazing

DD's prom was back in March, the HeadTeacher was strongly of the view that girls tend to focus more on their dresses, hair and make up than revision and therefore it would be detrimental to hold the Prom after GCSEs and I have to say he did have a point as the lead up was all encompassing Grin I was exhausted !!

It was an absolutely wonderful event and all the DC all looked so gorgeous and scarily grown up and I am just a little bit envious that you all have this to come.

Cherryburn · 13/06/2018 19:08

Reservoir thanks

Cblue · 13/06/2018 19:10

Hmm - wowzer!!! It's lovely (really classy)

Cherryburn · 13/06/2018 19:14

What a dress hmc!

Blostma · 13/06/2018 19:20

goodbye DD had a dress then decided it was too plain (it probably was), then on the recommendation of some kind souls on the S&B threads we found her one from Chi Chi London. It had to be short, and they had a great selection. she chose a beautiful blue silk one

JugglingMummyof2 · 13/06/2018 19:21

I am sorry ReservoirDogs - I wondered where the school might be - they are lucky to get 3 offers at DDs school so given you told us that it had the second best A level results I typed that in and up it popped.
They must, in addition to the great grades, also have a good relevant work experience system going on too to get so many offers.
