Sostenueto I'm glad that you've got things underway and I'm sorry you have to go through this. Please take it easy when you get home (no more garden construction for the moment!).

Does anyone in your family know yet?

Sostenueto · 17/06/2018 07:26

Not yet mmzz when euphoria of London trip is over then I will tell them. All in good time at the right moment. Smile

Sostenueto · 17/06/2018 07:28

Got to go Dracula is here (blood test) will come on later when home.

InMySpareTime · 17/06/2018 07:45

No uniform at any of the colleges DS applied for. He'll wear t-shirts and sport trousers. I'm glad he doesn't have to wear a suit as he still has a teenage scrawny neck, and the (XS) suit I got him for prom looks loose on him.
He looks like the scene in "Big" where the boy is left in the man suit, the top shirt button is an inch from his throat.

AlexanderHamilton · 17/06/2018 07:59

Flowers sost

Dd will be wearing blacks. So lots of black t shirts, sports tops, leggings & jogging bottoms over the top of her dancewear.

Oratory1 · 17/06/2018 08:17

Yes definitely go second hand there was lots on offer at dc s school - and sell back anything wearable at the end. DS goes for second hand as preference - more comfortable and less obviously new 😂

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 17/06/2018 08:20

Flowers Sost all the very best to you and your family. I hope all goes well.

Quick update from last week's work stress. For those who weren't here dd came home last Saturday sobbing because her bosses were calling her fucking useless etc.

Anyway by Thursday she'd decided she'd go in and hand her notice in properly and leave on good terms rather than call in sick or let me go in all overprotective (as much as I wanted to and so did her dad when he found out.)

So despite shaking with nerves she went in yesterday, told them straight away that she'd decided to leave and worked the shift. She said they were lovely to her and took it really well.

I think they are not bad people, but they just think they are Gordon Ramsay! Tbh I think she was feeling very fragile last week after 6 exams and was just due a meltdown but it still doesn't make it alright for 60 yr old men to talk to 15 / 16 yr old employees like that.

I'm very proud of her. I think she handled it really maturely.

A full day of German revision here. Head down and get through to Thursday Smile

Sostenueto Flowers and Stickerrocks Flowers

Kick I think that was really brave of your DD most DC her age would probably of sent a text!

6th form DS can wear waht ever he likes so we are going to have to go shopping to get him some clothes, which I am not looking forward to and has the possibility of costing me a small fortune!!

BlueBelle123 · 17/06/2018 08:34

DS and I are of to pick up DD from Uni, apparently DH's Father's Day treat is that he gets to stay at home on his own.....what will he do........FootballFootballFootball

sandybayley · 17/06/2018 08:40

@Sostenueto - v best wishes to you. Take it easy when you get home and do no more than sit on sofa with pup!

@KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse - good on your DD.Absolutely right that she took control of the situation herself.

Up and about to start catering for Father's Day BBQ. Only 11 coming but unfortunately it's raining. Poor DH is going to be outside under an umbrella 😬

PeggySchuylar · 17/06/2018 08:44

Well done Kick's DD

As kids get older I realise my role is more about supporting then with tough things rather than preventing/protecting them from things.

Brew for you Sost

LooseAtTheSeams · 17/06/2018 08:44

Sos Thanks hope you're let out of there soon!
If DS stays at current school they wear suits, if he goes to either of his other choices he can wear what he wants, which will be black jeans, T shirt and sweatshirt or hoody. He's gritted his teeth and worn a shirt for 5 years but given the blazer has been mostly stuffed in his rucksack I can't see him in a suit by choice!

LooseAtTheSeams · 17/06/2018 08:46

Kick meant to say well done to your dd! That took a lot of courage.

ByTheSea · 17/06/2018 08:50

DD is going to a specialist college to study Music Performance. The college encourages the students to dress however they want.

TerfTerfTerf · 17/06/2018 08:52

Good for your DD kick, always better to leave somewhere on good terms (assault etc aside), you never know when you might need a reference or might come across those people again...she definitely has the moral upper hand Smile

My DS will wear casual dress at sixth form, ie jeans. He has loads! He has even bought blue socks to wear, after 12 years of black. We have binned all white shirts except two for next week's exams, and given away other bits of uniform to a Y10 friend. Very liberating!

We're supposed to be going out for a Fathers Day picnic but it's raining here and not forecast to stop til 1pm. It will then be grey I expect. Maybe our picnic will be in the gazebo on our patio, then we'll have to walk round our house pretending it's Grade 1 listed and once owned by the Duke of Swindon, before buying one of our own pots of jam for £4.50....Grin We could also just drink gin all afternoon

spababe · 17/06/2018 08:54

If my DS gets into his selective 6th form or his back up 6th form college, he'll be able to wear just what he wants. I am soooo pleased I no longer have to rummage around his room for a vital tie/pe kit/jumper etc 5 mins after he should have left to get the bus.

We are going clothes shopping tomorrow as a treat but think we will have to go again when the warmer clothes get into the shops.

BlueBelle123 · 17/06/2018 08:58

Terf I always wondered who bought the jam Grin

AlexanderHamilton · 17/06/2018 09:06

Well done kicks Dd. Very mature way of handling it.

Petalflowers · 17/06/2018 09:06

Dc1 (year 13) loves his suit and feels smart in it. Not surprisingly, he’s heading toward an office based job.

TerfTerfTerf · 17/06/2018 09:11

bluebelle that's my MIL (a whole other thread), she buys at least two pots wherever she goes. Eats it once the next day then leaves it to go mouldy in the cupboard. When she moved, I cleared her kitchen and threw away 14 pots of jam and chutney that were unsalvageable (and i have pretty low standards Grin)

AlexanderHamilton · 17/06/2018 09:15

Another performing dc on the thread!

Will she be staying at home or going away to study Bythesea?

ByTheSea · 17/06/2018 09:22

AlexanderHamilton** She will commute, as long as she has good passes in English and Maths, which she should, her course will be 3 days a week.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 17/06/2018 10:25

DS3's preferred 6th form has a uniform of logo'd polo shirts and logo'd sweatshirt over black or grey school trousers. It seems like a return to primary school uniform after 5 years of blazers, shirts and ties. Confused

DS2's college is wear what you like which in his case is blue or grey jeans and a sweatshirt or rugby shirt. He won't wear a coat, even a hoodie, even in the depths of winter.

DS1's sixth form was a suit and tie job. Suit and shirt colours restricted and a sixth form tie. Now he's a student and scruffy as anything!

EllenJanethickerknickers · 17/06/2018 10:28

Also, my DS's growth spurts have so far been quite late. So they have done their growing during sixth form. With DS2 that's meant new jeans and tops but fairly cheap ones from Primark or supermarkets. DS1 needed 3 different sized suits which was expensive! Maybe just buy one suit at a time.

TheThirdOfHerName · 17/06/2018 10:31

Labyrinthitis improving, but I now have tonsillitis. I seem to be a bit run down...
