And any other schools you may wish to add... Have used threads from the previous few years as part of my research and ds sat Trinity today! I'm more of a lurker than a thread starter but decided to bite the bullet and offer a hand to hold. Good luck to all dc's sitting exams over the next few weeks! Grin

Yes, I thought so too, I dont think I can see it either. Thank you for confirming.

Greenleave · 05/02/2018 15:05

I am sorry to come back again, would this report similar to end of the year school report that we are given from the school or its more of a reference letter. Thanks so much.

Seeline · 05/02/2018 15:07

As far as I am aware, my DCs state primary simply photocopied their last school reports (so previous July) and sent those. There was no extras put in. They made it fairly clear it wasn't part of their remit to get involved in any part of the process.

Greenleave · 05/02/2018 15:11

Thanks Seeline, then its great because I know what was written in there. Its odd that there is a fee, I dont mind to pay for it however wasnt aware of such fee for something isnt written up(extra).

Seeline · 05/02/2018 15:13

I didn't have to pay a fee, but the last one was 3 years ago, so I ma sure budgets are even further stretched now. Why don't you just ask the school - I can understand that they might not reveal the contents but surely they could confirm whether it was last years report, or a specially written document.

Greenleave · 05/02/2018 15:22

Thanks so much Seeline, I wasnt allowed to have her teacher email address rather than the school generic one and the admin lady wasnt sure. There is meet the teacher meeting tomorrow evening, I will ask her teacher by then. I assume it will then be too late. The first time I was asking myself if my daughter is behaving well enough at her school so that there is something nice to be written about her. If its the school reports then she has been exceeding the school expectations in all subjects the last few years which is nice however there wont be anything saying about her extra curriculum activities that she does alot outside schools(music, swimming, chess tournaments). These might be a lesson to learn for next year 11+ applications.

soooooooonowwhat · 05/02/2018 16:06

Greenleave, I have heard of state school's charging money for the report - it sounds to me like they will be writing something up and not just sending across previous school reports. At our prep they get the dc to fill in a questionnaire re any clubs/activities they do outside of school, any prizes they have won etc, this way the head has a more well rounded view of your dc before they write the report. If I were you I would maybe just ask the school office if they need any more info on your dd's extra curricular activities for the head's report. If they say no then so be it but if not then it's a good opportunity to show the other sides to your dd and if they are charging you for the report then it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect them to include a bit more than the standard, 'all good academically, is well behaved' for example. Fwiw, I don't think the heads' report is as important for state school dc's as for those from preps. The school's know that the state school's won't be putting much effort in to marketing your child. The head's report from the prep will normally be a more frank opportunity for the head to tell the next school what they really think of your dc and whether they think the school you are applying to is the right school for your dc without having to worry about pushy parents asking for 'edits'. (This happens - was quite irritated to find out two mum's at ds's prep asked for edits to the end of year reports before they sent them off to Whitgift for their dc's as they had flagged up behavioural issues).

soooooooonowwhat · 05/02/2018 16:09

Also to everyone else. Aaaaaaaargh with the waiting!!

Greenleave · 05/02/2018 22:58

Thank you soooo! The problem is I dont think her teacher knows about her extra curr activities achievements/hobbies etc as they are mostly out of school. (We go to an out of school Orchestra as her school one is tiny and not so musical and she does alot of out of school chess tournaments for example). I think it might be too late now and learning this lesson, this year I will make sure that her hobbies and achievements are mentioned in the application first.(to my husband defence he says there isnt anywhere asking sbout these in the school’s application form).

Greenleave · 05/02/2018 22:59

And wanted to say good luck with the result everyone!

Tolacar · 05/02/2018 23:26

Can it be Friday yet? 😂😩

Firefox1066 · 06/02/2018 19:28

Yeah Tolacar feeling the same way! For the first time since his interview DS asked me today if we'd heard from W. I had hoped he'd forgotten al about it!!

I w gone back to over analysing the interview again... ah well only 3 more sleeps!

Firefox1066 · 06/02/2018 19:29

*Ive

soooooooonowwhat · 06/02/2018 20:04

Just want it to be done already! Is it definitely Friday that the letters are arriving or are they supposed to be sent out then? Can't wait but also a part of me doesn't want to know in case it's bad news. Am really busy too at the moment but it doesn't seem to be distracting me at all! Good luck everyone!

Firefox1066 · 06/02/2018 20:21

The letter are definitely posted on Thursday and arrive on Friday. Speaking of which, we haven't had the envelope discussion yet! yes I'm that sad

Robotsandunicorns · 06/02/2018 20:40

Oh goodness is that the big envelope is good small envelope is bad discussion😬😬😬😬😬

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 06/02/2018 20:48

Grin Shall I dig out our offer letters from 2 years ago, and tell you what size envelopes they came in?!

soooooooonowwhat · 06/02/2018 20:59

The only reason I haven't raised the envelope issue Firefox is that I've obsessively read the old threads so am now an expert on envelope sizes! (Yes, I'm sadder than you!)

Having said that, it will give us something to obsess over so Meetie, pray do share. Photographs and exact dimensions please. To the mm. Wink

Robotsandunicorns · 06/02/2018 20:59

Lol! Tempting but will just have to wait and see. Whatever will be will be, but the wait is agonising....

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 06/02/2018 21:45

Right. DH has the football on, and although there have apparently been loads of goals, I'm not remotely interested.

So that means I've had time to find DS1's offer letters.

W: the letter had been folded in half. So an A5 envelope.
T: no fold marks. So an A4 envelope.

You're welcome Wink

orangina · 06/02/2018 21:56

So is that official then? Thick envelope also includes enrolment forms etc and is a yes? Thin envelope is a not thank you or waitlist offer only, no enrolment forms? Am trying to remain calm and remember that our children will all end up in the right school for them...

(Om shanti)

Firefox1066 · 06/02/2018 22:01

I dug out DS1's from 3 years ago. A yes from W was in an A5 envelope with lots of bumf in it. A yes from T was an A4 envelope, also thick (both envelope include letters to DS as well)

A thin normal envelope is a no thanks or waitlist

Robotsandunicorns · 06/02/2018 22:03

Oh wow thank you!

😬😬😬😬🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪😫😫😫😫

orangina · 06/02/2018 22:08

I went through all of this with DD 2 years ago.... how the mind so easily forgets.... Grin

truelove · 06/02/2018 22:23

We got an offer from Bromley High today for DD - A4 envelope! Good luck everyone waiting. We are just waiting for Colfes now but I think that should arrive by Thursday. Have been following this thread as a lurker so feel I’ve lived through the last few weeks with you all.
