And any other schools you may wish to add... Have used threads from the previous few years as part of my research and ds sat Trinity today! I'm more of a lurker than a thread starter but decided to bite the bullet and offer a hand to hold. Good luck to all dc's sitting exams over the next few weeks! Grin

Yes Meetie fully agree that it's more stressful with DS2. He appears to assumethat he's almost "guaranteed" a place sue his brother being already at W. That said, all of our DS's have worked incredibly hard and so we should be proud of their efforts in any case.

citykat · 08/01/2018 10:39

Recognise some names from previous years. I am back but with a DD this time. So no Dulwich this time but v happy to answer questions on that topicSmile
She seems quite relaxed. I prefer the brisk drop and go approach we had at JAGS today. Hope you all get on ok.

sooooooonowwhat · 08/01/2018 11:35

Hello there citykat and good luck to your dd! Weird question re Dulwich - I don't suppose you know if lunch during the exam day is hot food or sandwiches?

Seeline · 08/01/2018 12:27

Hi all - can't believe it's 6 years since I went through this with DS. Sent him back to school today for his first day of GCSE mocks - brought it all back Grin

Good luck t you all.

citykat · 08/01/2018 13:36

Sooooo general rule of thumb seems to be that if they are there all day it is hot food - DS says he thinks it was shepherd's pie. DD had pasta at a GDST school. The food is a big decider for my childrenWink

sooooooonowwhat · 08/01/2018 15:46

Thanks citykat ds enjoyed lunch at Dulwich today (big tick in DC's favour!) and came out pretty happy. Said he wasn't sure his story was that good but managed to finish and overall happy. Does anyone know how many applied to DC this year?

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 08/01/2018 19:55

Sounds positive, sooo!

I know nothing about numbers for Dulwich, I’m afraid, but in case anyone is interested, we were told that approx 150 sat T 10+ at the weekend. Which was a bit down on 2 years ago when DS1 sat it - then it was 180-200.

Wobblypig · 08/01/2018 21:03

Has anyone heard from Trinity? We got called from Whitgift Saturday morning and they said they had completed the marking by Friday night.
Imagine Trinity must do similar?

sooooooonowwhat · 08/01/2018 21:21

Wobbly no news here yet from Trinity although I remember the letter said they would send letters out on Thursday - I can't remember if that is just rejection letters or interview letters too. ds is sitting an art scholarship the following week so they said they would let us know before that. Meetie I don't suppose in your infinite knowledge you know how many sat for Trinity 11+? Back to it, Alleyn's tomorrow!

Goinggreybytheminute · 08/01/2018 21:25

Not heard anything from Whitgift, am still clinging on to hope DS may get an interview! Does anyone know when the no letters are sent?

Wobblypig · 08/01/2018 21:30

I know Trinity were quite emphatic about ‘don’t ring us we’ll ring you’ because they have both us and the boys a letter . I think it said we should have interview, if we are going to get them,by Thursday.

Wobblypig · 08/01/2018 21:31

Sorry -an interview invite by Thursday not an interview

sooooooonowwhat · 08/01/2018 21:31

no idea but there are a couple of dc's at ds's school who are totally Whitgift material, super sporty, nice, very academic and also applying for SPS etc who haven't yet heard so I wouldn't assume it's a no Goinggrey

turboturtle · 08/01/2018 21:38

Wobbly has your DS got an interview then?
Did they finish all marking on Friday, or just the group which your DS was in? We're still waiting to hear

Tolacar · 08/01/2018 21:43

Received an email from whitgift today for interview on Monday. They are interviewing over the next couple of weeks and seem to be giving a weeks notice so there's still time.

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 08/01/2018 21:49

If you haven't heard anything, please don't start stressing yet!

2 years ago we sat W 10+ on the Thursday, and got a letter inviting us for an interview towards the end of this week. Sat T 10+ on the Saturday, and got a call towards the middle of this week inviting us to interview.

Some boys at our primary school weren't contacted re: interviews until a few days after us; some had been contacted beforehand. I think it can take them a good couple of weeks to contact everyone to arrange interviews, whereas if you haven't done well enough to get an interview then you'll find out by the end of this week.

With the W interview, I had the impression that they had thought carefully about which teacher they wanted to interview DS1. Plus they had a boy who had gone to his primary school to take us to and from waiting rooms etc. So all quite carefully planned - which would take a while to sort out.

The T interview was on a Saturday, and there were loads of boys being interviewed - it felt a bit like we were on a conveyor belt! Apparently (historically at least - not sure whether Mr Kennedy has changed things) a Saturday T interview means that you are pretty much assured a (full fees) place - they just want to give you a quick once-over. Whereas a midweek interview means you could be up for a scholarship, or could be borderline for a place or not. Whether or not this is still true, I have no idea, but at least it gives us all something extra to speculate and stress about Grin

I'm afraid I don't have any numbers for 11+ at T or any at all for W (we only sat for T this time around) but if I find out from any school mum friends I'll let you all know.

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 08/01/2018 21:50

Great news, tolacar!

Goinggreybytheminute · 08/01/2018 22:02

Thanks all for being so helpful and best of luck to everyone!

turboturtle · 08/01/2018 22:02

How many boys does Whitgift interview for year 7? DH estimated there were 600-700 boys taking the exams on Thursday

Wobblypig · 08/01/2018 22:06

Turbo they led me to believe everyone was marked by Friday night because I remarked on what a huge feat that was. They are obviously very organised with the marking if not in organising the arrival of boys.
Not sure why we got interview so early -definitely not based on receipt of application or on alphabet so may just be a purely random thingeg which teacher got theirs marked first?

stourton · 09/01/2018 07:24

DS sat 10+ for both W & T. No news yet.
We put our application right on the last day, plus we are relocating. Does that make a difference?

Can’t stand the wait, my stomach has been in knots for the last few days.
DS complained that for NVR there were 100 questions for 45 minutes? It seems this was the case last year too, if I read right from last years thread.
Good luck everyone.

stourton · 09/01/2018 07:59

Relocating from another part of the country.
I meant VR.

AnotherNewt · 09/01/2018 08:34

"The food is a big decider for my children"

So true - one of mine was seriously swayed by mini-donuts during a break. And I had my own informal ratingoif schools based on biscuits provided to waiting parents.

I don't know how many sat for DC this year. They do call for interview promptly and do expect you to turn up at the slot they offer you (unless there is something truly exceptional going on) because of the numbers involved and the time available. That said, they interview only those to whom they intend to offer a place or put towards the top of the waiting list.

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 09/01/2018 08:46

stourton, neither of those things should affect the schools’ decisions to interview your son or not.

Give them a chance - the exams were only late last week! And don’t forget they have 11+ and 13+ to sort out as well - and there will be many many more who sat the 11+ than the 10+.

It’s far too early to start panicking yet - as I said earlier, it was mid/end of this week last time around that we heard (and we got offers from both).

Tolacar · 09/01/2018 09:33

Does anyone know the interview timings for Hampton? As in when should we expect to hear? They did say they were doing scholarship interviews this week and the rest next week.
