New thread as the old one is at 990 messages!

OP posts:

Sorry, no impending departure here!
Dd has gone back to work with a Chemistry tutorial last night and today. It seemed to come flooding back with a bit of a prod.
I haven't wanted to post as you're all getting ready for imminent departure and we're not quite in the same boat at the moment. But I can sense the anticipation and nervousness through the posts.
Good luck with all the preparation and I will be thinking of you all 😁.

Teta is she redoing her Alevels?

teta · 29/08/2017 16:17

She's got to redo one.One been remarked up to an A.Maths is two marks short after having 2/5 papers remarked. So it's worth having the other three re-marked.Anyhow she only has to redo one module as that was disastrous and brought her marksdown from a A.Chemistry however was a definite B.

bigTillyMint · 29/08/2017 16:26

Good on her - hard to go back to redo when she had hoped to go away. Will she redo at school?

teta · 29/08/2017 16:35

No.She wouldn't be able to bear that!
Her school did disastrously this year - 2/9 got into Medicine/vet medicine. We're going with expert tutors and sharing with her friend so they can both get more animal experience.

HSMMaCM · 29/08/2017 16:45

Good for her teta. DD said if she had to retake she wouldn't be going back to her sixth form.

Auntpetunia2015 · 29/08/2017 17:12

Intake/moving in day is Sunday 17th here...so not very far away. DS keeps saying it'll be weird when me and DS go back and he doesn't.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/08/2017 17:53

Good for her, Teta - Thanks for the update, I was so sorry it hadn't worked out for her this year after all the extra effort and stress of vet applications.

LineysRun · 29/08/2017 18:10

DS wouldn't touch his sixth form college again with a barge pole.

Wishing her luck, teta.

We still are struggling with accommodation.

bigTillyMint · 29/08/2017 19:18

Oh good luck to her Teta. Good that she has a friend in a similar position - in it together.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 29/08/2017 21:50

Thanks for your good wishes Teta, all best wishes to your DD, am glad she has a plan in place x

indulgentberries · 29/08/2017 22:17

I spoke to the council, and student halls are a category m so they don't need an exemption since only students can live there.

teta · 30/08/2017 07:49

Thank you Flowers
You're all so lovely on this thread.
I'm looking forward to reading about the fun & trials and tribulations at Uni .I will be living through it with you vicariously 😋

JugglingFromHereToThere · 30/08/2017 17:12

We were pretty close to re-sits here teta, fortunately for DD she got offers even though she missed her grades.
Really hard when they aren't able to progress with plans as much as they'd hoped, and coping with their feelings as well as your own.

I hope things go really well for your DD this year and she gets lots more opportunities for work experience to go towards future applications.
My DD was getting quite enthusiastic about possibilities for a gap year as she knew it would be a close run thing. She thought the international version of NCS (ICS?) could be really interesting.

Really feel for you both and hope it works out well for her this coming year.

LineysRun · 31/08/2017 14:54

Last day of August, the day draws near ...

Horsemad · 31/08/2017 15:14

Aaagghhhg!

bigTillyMint · 31/08/2017 15:58

So it seems the booking app for arrival slots was broken. She now has a Saturday slot. Phew!

Here we have stuff piled all about in preparation for the off...

Horsemad · 31/08/2017 16:01

DS's halls don't have arrival slots but they will email some information about arriving in a few days apparently.

Hope we all don't all arrive at once, lol! Grin

tobee · 31/08/2017 16:07

teta I did re-sits (back in the dark ages). While it obviously wasn't what I wanted at the time, it did work out well in some ways. I reapplied, to different universities and polys, slightly changed my course choice, made sure I really wanted to go at all and where I wanted to go. It was probably slightly easier not having social media then. I really enjoyed my degree when I eventually started, because I'd fought harder (and thought harder). Plus when I got on the course it didn't make any difference I was a year older. Smile

LineysRun · 31/08/2017 18:18

What are these arrival slots?? What fresh hell is this?

Horsemad · 31/08/2017 18:51

Lol, basically a 30 minute time slot to unload your possessions and get them to the room (because a lot of halls don't have much parking space).

There is usually a welcoming group of second years to help carry all the stuff to the room. Smile

theancientmarinader · 31/08/2017 19:16

We have 10am on Sunday. And all the Varsity athletes in their team strip to help carry Grin
And yes, my entire house has belongings strewn from front to back. It is not all going to fit in the car...

bebumba · 31/08/2017 19:32

Hi folks I have a quick question and wondered if any of you can help.
When ds goes off to uni does he need to contact DVLA to change the address linked to his driving licence or does he stay registered at home?

indulgentberries · 31/08/2017 19:44

According to the dvla website he needs to change it. It's free.

indulgentberries · 31/08/2017 19:45

Liney in the nicest possible way, kindly shut up!! 😉
